  1. Tracy filled in for Jackie on Monday and Tuesday at 4pm, 5pm, & 6pm alongside Jim. Interesting that they had her on at 6 being that when one's off at 6 the other usually solo anchors. She also anchored with Jim on Friday at 5pm. Thursday night she moderated a debate. Also, caught Jackie anchoring the 11pm on Tuesday (she was off on earlier newscasts) but was absent the next day.

All this has me speculating whether they're testing anchor pairs out. I'd like to see Tracy return to afternoons/evenings anchoring.

It seems you're not the only one that would like to see her back to afternoon/evenings. However, with how important morning newscasts are becoming, a strong anchor like Tracy is needed.

  2. Well, I think Michelle and Karen are per diem where as Doug and Dave are contract employees. Also, Karen and Michelle could've been unavailable. Last weekend there was another per diem person in. 10 only has three contract on-air weather people at the moment, and one is on vacation while the other is sick, and the third can only do so much. 10 is also spread a little thin at the moment on the anchor side as well.

It showed up last week when Jim, Jacqueline, and Keith were all off Friday and Vai, Rosemary, and Denise were filling in.

  3. The rumors that Matt is leaving has been happening since at least 2010, with Willie, Ann's departure, Katie leaving the Evening News, Carson, etc... They even made a big deal of Ryan Seacrest replacing Matt when he was on Today a few years back.

My opinion is that Matt will not leave Today unless they have a succession plan in place. Even though all signs point to it being Willie, I don't think he's the future of the show.

As a #throwbackthursday #tbt, I found a clip of what seems to be one of the first of many times Matt filled in for Bryant back in April 1993.

  4. Former NBC10 meteorologist Doug Kammerer is filling in on NBC10 today.

Awesome to see Doug again in NBC 10. Shows how thin they are with meteorologists.

Here is Doug's cameo in the NBC10 at 4 Facebook teaser:

  5.

If I'm not mistaken, it has almost been a year since Renee was placed on leave. It is a shame that this is how her time at the station ended. She was there from the switch from CBS to NBC, the competitive rise of 10's news department with her and Mendte, to the GE cutbacks and 10 forced into standardization.

Starting last week, I started to notice Jim and Jacqueline at 4, 6, and 11 (which had been the case for a while), and Keith with either Denise or Rosemary at 5.

  6. From what I've watched, Tracy would do the first hour solo and Vai joins her at 5. On days that Tracy has been off (like last week), they had Lauren Mayk substituting.

At this point, is it even worth bringing Renee back? Because what's becoming clear for most of the year is how Denise and Rosemary are competent anchors, paired with Jim and Keith. Also, I noticed lately the rapport Jim and Jacqueline have at 11 is brought over to the 4PM news. It's refreshing and hope strengthens the 4.

  7. I wonder what the latest is with Renee. If she ends up being let go, this is how I'd like the anchor pairings to shake out:

4pm/6pm/11pm: Jim Rosenfield / Jaqueline London (A Team)

11am/5pm: Keith Jones / Tracy Davidson (B Team)

Mornings: Chris Cato / Rosemary Connors (C Team)

Weekend Evenings: Vai Sikahema / Denise Nakano

    Weekend Mornings: a new team

I could conceivably see the A Team doing 5pm/11pm, B Team doing 4pm/6pm, and C Team doing Mornings/11am. I think Chris and Rosemary are better suited for mornings, hence why I'd like to see Vai and Denise on weekends. Having Tracy back in the evenings would be great because we'd have a familiar face on in the evenings (the other three are all hires within the past three years).

I wonder as well, what the case would be if Renee were to be let go. Both Tracy and Rosemary are good choices for mornings. Tracy would keep the stability and chemistry that is already in place. Although, Rosemary is a great reporter and deserving of a weekday anchor position. Maybe Rosemary can have a weekday anchor/reporter position similar to Keith Jones, where Jim and Rosemary are paired at 4, Keith and Jacqueline at 5, and Jim and Jacqueline at 6 and 11.

  8. Kathy Orr has joined Fox 29 to do weather on their 5 and 10PM newscasts.

    http://www.fox29.com/news/20403990-story

    Few thoughts:

    - I'm intrigued to see if this tandem of Kathy and Scott will be the same as Cecily/Adam and Hurricane/Sheena.

    - Could Fox 29 get in the midday newscast routine? Because Scott can easily be placed there, in the same line Hurricane is used in the 11, 4, and 6 PM newscasts.

    - Bare with me as I'm not a regular of Fox 29 Morning News and Good Day... Could they use another weather anchor in the mornings? Since 29 goes from 4-10 AM, it's hard to see Sue doing the weather and switching to being a Good Day host. 29 can have a weather anchor do 4-7 AM and Sue can take over from 7-10.

  9.

So far filling the 4pm slot:

    Th 5/21: Sharrie Williams

    F 5/22: Sharrie Williams

    M 5/25: Sharrie Williams

    T 5/26: Nydia Han

    W 5/27: Nydia Han

    Th 5/28: Alicia Vitarelli

    F 5/29: Alicia Vitarelli

    M 6/1: Sarah Bloomquist

    T 6/2: Sarah Bloomquist

    W 6/3: Eva Pilgrim

Looks like they are testing everyone out. I wonder if Tamala Edwards will get a chance.

*Note: updated with today's info and correction.

Catching the last ten minutes of the 4PM right now... Brian is off and it's Rick and Eva anchoring. For the 5, Monica is off and Sharrie is filling in for her.

Thoughts on possible replacements for Shirleen:

    - It would be nice to see Sarah get the 4. Even though she's been one of their top reporters, she can still continue to report on the field for the 6, 10, and 11 PM newscasts.

    - For me, Brian is more than capable of anchoring the 10PM newscast solo.

    - I doubt Tamala would get a chance to anchor the 4 as mornings have become an important, but long newscast and I don't think 6 would want to mess with her pairing with Matt.

    - Could it be possible that 10's strong, hard-news 20-minute attack is a factor (small one I would think) in who they choose for the 4?

  10.

Such a sad occasion, but with a happy outcome.

Shirleen Allicott is leaving WPVI for a job at the station's sister station WABC.

Congrats to on the new get at Eyewitness News, and I'll miss her anchoring tenure on Action News.

    https://twitter.com/iPhillyChitChat/status/599290463565254656/photo/1

Sad to see her go but hope it goes well anyway! Shirleen had the potential to be a good anchor here in Philly.

As for her replacement, first name is definitely Sharrie Williams. Keep in mind though that 6 has a 4, 5, and 10 PM newscasts where I imagine Sharrie fills in regularly whenever the anchors for those newscasts (Rick, Monica, Brian, and Shirleen) are either out, on assignment, or subbing for Jim.

  11.

Is Vai officially off the morning (4-7AM) show? I was up early this morning and noticed in the 5:30am half hour it was Chris and Tracy anchoring, but Vai is anchoring the 11am (and seems like he has been for a while).

From what I've seen, it's Chris from 4-4:30, then Tracy and Chris from 4:30-6 then Tracy and Vai for the last hour. It seems like Vai does the 11am solo.
  12.

It's a kick in the balls for WCAU esp if he takes Anzio Williams with him but they'll turn WNBC around like they did here. I'm confident that they'll bring in a competent replacement cause if they don't they'll hear about it from Comcast.

They better bring a competent replacement. The investment that has been put in WCAU for the last 3-4 years will have been for nothing. Would he really need Anzio Williams there though? Because I would think that WNBC is not in as bad shape as WCAU was, entering 2011.

Didn't the same thing happen with KYW's GM back in the early 2000s? When KYW was doing well with Mendte and Lane, the GM went to WCBS in New York?

  13. Was browsing through TVNewsCheck and checked TVSpy after and I was surprised.

    http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/veteran-reporter-lu-ann-cahn-leaving-wcau_b135991

This probably deserves a separate thread because she has been an integral part of WCAU for almost 30 years. She was the face of 10's group of reporter for years, even more so the past few years under the management of Anzio Williams and Eric Lerner. I'm glad though that she's leaving in her own terms and would be wonderful if they had a short tribute for her on the 19th.

  14. Again, sorry for going off-topic from the anticipation of what appears to be... not just a refresh set.

I was just browsing through TVNewsCheck and saw that 10 added two new reporters. One is for the Lehigh Valley Bureau (makes sense since Delaware, South Jersey, Jersey Shore, and Mercer County bureaus have a designated reporter) and the other is for the NBC 10 Investigators working with Hairston (I wondered if they were going to be adding a reporter in 10's investigative unit since they switch Lu Ann.

Now back to the set talk... Are they fixing or changing the weather center? Because I see Sheena in there when it comes to the teases. Just wondering if it's part of the renovations or is there no need with the "virtual" First Alert set platform?

  15. Going off topic here...

I remember before 10 went to their HD set in 2008, the biggest upgrades before that point was the overhauling of the Earthwatch weather center. They had the big Earthwatch desk. I guess the most telling clip I can find is from an

. The enormity of the weather center was gone though once they went HD. Is it safe to say that the said weather set has been around for about 7-8 years?

I just wanted to throw this out there to see if anyone remembers and if they do, maybe they can shed some light into other intricacies that weather center had.

  16.

Looks like NBC 10 will be looking for a new weather person http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/tedd-florendo-returns-to-las-vegas_b128097

Ted was a good addition for them. Being a weekday evening meteorologist was something he can't pass with. Best of luck for him!

Watching NBC 10 News at 4pm, and it looks like they are doing it on a temporary setup/anchordesk from the interview area they use towards the end of 11am news. I wonder what's up!?!

Isn't that where they based the newscasts when they went to their current studio back in December 2008? It makes sense to update it in someway now since the set will have been in existence for 9 years in 2017.

Lastly, I'm just wondering how 10's fall daytime lineup is going to look.. Is it news at 11, Days at noon, Meredith at 1, Steve at 2, and Ellen at 3?

  17.

First promo for David, by Diane and has cameos from the last 3 whose their names were in the title. WNT is back according to this promo

    http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/diane-sawyer-voices-new-david-muir-world-news-tonight-promo_b237258

Simple and powerful promo! I like how they had Peter, Charlie, and Diane in the promo too. In Brian's (almost) 10 year tenure at NN, David has the opportunity to not just surpass him in the ratings but maintain it... and I like BriWi. David's move over to WNT had to happen now. If it didn't, I'm sure NBC or other networks would have made him an offer that he simply could not refuse. I'm digging the return of World News Tonight name and I, along with many of you guys, are hoping for the return of the WNT music.

    Some coincidences here:

Brian Williams took over Nightly starting December 2, 2004

On September 1984, WNT was renamed "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings".
