And, in a major move, local newscasts will no longer originate from KCBS-2. Instead, that station will simulcast KCAL-9 newscasts as part of a bigger plan to make KCAL, once the home of the legendary Jerry Dunphy and Pat Harvey, a player in the L.A. news race for the first time in more than two decades.

Isn't KCAL already a major player in local news since they started a 3-hour primetime news block in 1990?

I think this speaks for itself when even NewsNation's own staffers basically tell the higher-ups at the failing network they flubbed big time in hiring Cuomo.

If that isn't the biggest blunder in NewsNation's nearly two-year history,  I don't know what is.

Chris Licht is obviously cleaning house.  It is not a surprise that Brian wasn't going to last under new management.

Let us hope that Don Lemon and Oliver Darcy would be next to get the sack.....but, then again, I'm not going to hold my breath for that one.

So basically News Nation is the reject news channel?  Interesting approach.  And so much for "NO OPINION, JUST NEWS" programing.   😂

Just when you think things can't get any more worse at News Nation than what it is already been....

  5. I got two small questions relating to this merger: What is the main impetus of this deal and will there be cross-promotions between the networks despite the majority of programming on all Discovery networks is more reality/scripted driven?

I don't think KDKA-TV will use the First Alert Branding due to WPXI (owned by Cox) somewhat having First Alert as a secondary branding.

WTAE (Hearst) has WeatherRate and WPXI currently has Severe Weather Team 11 as their primary branding.

Same way here in Detroit, WXYZ (Scripps-owned ABC affiliate) has used the "First Alert" brand for its weather (and later) traffic segments since 2011. WWJ continues to use the "First Forecast" branding for its weather segments since 2008 when the station was branded as simply "WWJ-TV".

CBS Local and The Enforcer sounds similar that many will not notice the change. Why is that when Stephen composed CBS Local and the Enforcer was composed by GARI?

Both packages are based on the same folk song "This is My City, Chicago's My Town" which gave rise to the 1975 theme by Dick Marx, and other news packages by different composers, especially Frank Gari and Stephen Arnold. "Enforcer" debuted in 1994 on WBBM-TV, "CBS Local" debuted in 2013 on Nexstar-owned CBS affiliate KGPE in Fresno.

I hope he leaves, but even better, he retires and never runs another media corporation ever again. I'm sure anyone can run CNN better. I hope the new CNN president fixes everything that Zucker messed up.

    I highly agree on that.

This is just terrible news. KTVA is one of the most solid news operations out there and I really feel bad for their people. Their product is so far ahead of what is expected of a market that size. And their brand is respected and well renowned.

I’m a little confused as to everything right now...

    these are my questions.

    1. Does Gray have control of KTVA’s news department as of now? Or is it still GCI?

    2. Is it still business as usual for the KTVA news department right now? Will they still be on at all their regular times?

    3. Why so sudden?

    4. Are KTVA’s newscasts going to air on the new CBS 5 now instead?

    5. Is there more to come? Are we still waiting for some dominos to fall?

Those questions are more likely to be answered given this whole nature of this deal by Gray...

He sold off 20th Century Fox, FX, and all that other stuff because he decided the streaming wars were one hurdle too many for him to clear. He's old and didn't seem to trust his kids to take the reins of 21CF as it was constituted.

Despite the fact that 21st Century Fox once owned a stake in Hulu before the Disney deal.
