  1. Big question: How can the FCC fine Newport Television, when Newport has been defunct as of June 1 of last year when they sold its stations to Sinclair, Nexstar and Cox?

  2.

But it wouldn't surprise me if KHOU drops the game shows in the near future, especially if Gannett decides to go beyond standardizing its news graphics and launch original syndicated programming in the access hour a la Evening/PM Magazine or game shows like the ones Scripps put out. And for the record, didn't USA Today used to have its own bust of a show?

Yes, it ran from 1988 to 1990. The series was bombarded with low raitings and negative reviews throughout its entire run of one and a half seasons.
  3.

If they do, please 'CNC, NO DATED, LATE 90s-LOOKING, UGLY "NBC36" logo. But, IIRC, Gannett stations don't use a "(Network)(Number)" branding, correct?

Most of the Gannett stations don't, except for WTLV and WJXX, which go by "NBC 12" and "ABC 25" respectably.

    "BLAST FROM THE PAST"

The Today Show will end 2013 by going back to the past. On Monday, Dec. 30, former TODAY anchors Bryant Gumbel and Jane Pauley will join Matt Lauer to co-anchor the show. It'll be like old times for Gumbel and Pauley. Gumbel left the TODAY in 1997 after 15 years in an anchor slot, and Pauley left in 1989 after 13 years, the last seven of them as Gumbel's co-anchor.

    (FROM FTVLIVE)

Looks like Katie Couric (co-anchor from 1991-2006), Meredith Vieira (co-anchor from 2006-2011), and Ann Curry (co-anchor from 2011-2012) is not invited for the year-end show, isn't it?

  5. Here in Detroit, Fox O&O station WJBK is expanding news once again. Fox 2 is adding a half-hour of news on the weekends and a full-hour of news on the weekdays.

"Fox 2 News Weekend" expands from 6:30am-10:00am starting Saturday September 17, and "Fox 2 News Morning" expands from 4:30am-12:00pm starting Monday September 19.
