1. And to complete the set... Yes, that's Kari Lake anchoring!
2. Three news stories from the same night: September 22, 1996, when ASU upset Nebraska en route to the Rose Bowl. All show some interesting graphics: Note that Geoff Morrell is wearing a polo with a new KSAZ logo. We're just weeks away from the Fox 10 relaunch... And we also got 7 minutes of Jude La Cava's sports show from that night, too. Note the transitional "Fox 10" logo... And a little chunk of KPHO too...
3.
So recently we found KPNX's 1992-93 "Your choice for Real Life, Real News in the 90s" open, which resembled that of WCCO's open from that same time frame in some ways. I wonder if Wow & Flutter were also the composers of KPNX's 1992 theme besides their Everyday Music Package?
That's a question I've had myself. @TServo2049 might have a clue. Wow and Flutter was founded by Jerry Brunskill, and he'd be the one that would need to be contacted. If it did turn out to be Wow and Flutter, it would mean two straight KPNX themes composed by Twin Cities composers.
4. That promo is amazing. Definitely has that David Miller feel to it.
5. YES! THERE WE GO! A very, very WCCO-inspired open (which is kind of what I expected). I've been waiting, what, 4 1/2 years for this? It obviously debuted sometime between February and April... That KSAZ open should say 1994, not 1993, by the way... Oh gosh, ctmikect had it. It was classic KTVK. It's also now seared into my head.
6. With ctmikect's channel going down, it's nice to have a KPNX open from this era again on YT. (Kirkpatrick's addition is a bit of a patch job though...) What I really want to see is the 1992 10pm open that the NMSA has. I've never seen video of it. It's not on YT, but this is a 1994 KNXV story. Yes, 1994. The only KNXV footage I've ever seen from between launching news and hooking up with ABC: http://www.abc15.com/news/crime/old-time-crime-parents-ditch-murdered-children-in-phoenix-sewer-in-1994
7. Not quite what I'm looking for...yet. But good to see.
8. Not much normal material, but it's nice to see some KAET from 1990. A very end-80s/early-90s look:
9. That is definitely the noon cut from WNDU 1986 — I mean, really should be WKRC 1985 — I mean, I think it was called News Beat but we can't confirm that. The 1985 close cut sounds like the instrumental to a sung image campaign of some sort. The slogan at the time was "Delmarva Spirit". Here's another close from 1982: And a joke news open with Meco's Theme: And remember when Major League Baseball almost contracted? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHS_U1gOoo0
10. Blink and you'll miss the Proud N/peacock...still in use on KXAS's pre-roll in 1988!
11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=JkwzWLUa0_4;m=1;s=40 The next theme was in use by July 1987. There's a comment on one of Jim Heath's KPHO videos: "Some of the various opening themes used during this era were: *1981-82 (approx.)—funky bass open, main melody played by electric-guitar vibrato chords *1982-83—trumpet-based theme, with string bridge [quite clearly this theme] *approx. 1986-92—just a short musical stinger for the open: a bass and electric piano riff, ending with a synth crescendo [NMSA "KPHO 1988]" This would have been bookended by Part of Your Life in the late 70s/early 80s (used by all the Meredith stations) and Signature, which probably debuted in 1992. ——— And a dash of Tampa news promos:
12. NEWS 5! From 1986, but the PATCO striking workers in the open indicate 4-5 years of additional use beforehand! (it cannot be older than 1981) As to the theme? Late last year I did find this 1984 item from The Arizona Republic...
13. What's coming up on 12 News Tonight in November 1990?
14. That's the first thing I thought of. "This almost sounds like something 3 would do!" And this is the first time I've heard the "full" Pinnacle newsbreak cut. It's good. Really reinforces the idea suggested by the original name: Round the Clock News. The KPNX newsbreak is also interesting: it features The Coast theme (used with the apparently second generation of TVbD graphics) with the next generation's graphics package. And then there are these sung ID tags for KNXV...
15. The problem is that acquisitions in broadcasting require different approvals and license transfers. There also is an outside date that will need to be considered. With Allbritton, SBG wanted to get the deal done before that date and made several concessions.
16. Having this entire acquisition, especially if this takes a while, hanging over so many stations is bad for morale. KTVK/KASW suffered from that during the prolonged Belo/Gannett/Sander/Meredith acquisition process.
17. To Des Moines we go: Fun fact: The VO in this open series is David Oman, who was at the time also the co-chair of the Iowa Republican Party (and is still important in Iowa Republican politics). The next KCCI open series survived until 2000, but in a cut-down form:
18. The KTVK video is pretty good. The days when local TV actually aired major college football games... That sponsor bumper is pretty familiar-sounding, too...
19. Wow, I've never seen that before and it's been on YT for years. The music comes from this (probably Copeland) package, "WAVE 3, Part of Your Life":
20. In the Providence Journal today... "WJAR forced to run pro-Trump programs"
21. Never knew they updated the opens to replace Channel 10 with Today's 10. EDIT: Have you had enough KTSP yet? Look at this set for high school sports coverage, back when that was a thing at channel 10! Also that's my high school!!
22. KPNX WITH REAL NEWS! (Listen at 0:27!) And what appears to be an undiscovered TVbD package! This can't have lasted long because it falls between this: and the more familiar early 90s TVbD package...
23. More like a gazillion of them. Keep watching. You'll see that when the lady is at the graphics computer, you can see some small previews of documents that are a bunch of less transitional KSAZ logo concepts... The F(10)X logo is definitely more in line with what other stations (KSAZ, WAGA) did after 1996, but what ended up happening was much more "complete" — the Impact News I era.
24. Have you seen the 1996 station tour video? It may be one of the greatest TV news videos ever uploaded to YouTube. It also includes something super special beginning at 17:55...
25. There's a good reason there's no Fox branding in that promo — this was during their three-month gap between network affiliations. EDIT: He had the date wrong. It's from March of 1995. So that concern is there. Later in '95 they dropped the "Channel" and became simply 10 News, but with the same graphics.
