It's time for the weekend edition of WAKA's Action 8 News in 1987:
-
I hadn't heard Spirit of New England prior to this, so I went and listened to the JAM demo. It's pretty good. I also recognized one of the beds as !
-
That KJEO open might be one of the worst pieces of news open copy ever. The KGMC C-43 jingle has a classic JAM sound to it, too...definitely came from a radio package.

Yes please! (I kinda prefer the Impact News-ized intro, though...) It occurs to me this name could not return today. Too close to Amazon Prime... It appears April 11, 1997 was the final telecast for Arizona Prime: "Channel 10 (KSAZ) has announced a name change for Arizona Prime News, the station's week-nights-at-9 news hour. Starting April 14, it becomes Fox 10 News [at] 9. According to a Channel 10 spokeswoman, no significant content or talent changes are planned."

Whoops, I thought it was cancer (due to a misleading search preview). I'm retracting that part of the post. :/ There was a Cardinals reporter for the Republic who died of cancer the same year, and I think other people conflated the two events, especially these days. Here's a whole half-hour of Good Morning Arizona from 1996!

KPNX 12 News Five O'Clock opening from November 1993. Not terribly noteworthy (we already had the opening from this set), but... Unfortunately, sports anchor Steve Pascente would die of a car accident the next year. (I thought it was cancer, but I was wrong.)

That KPTM logo was their first one from when they went on the air in 1986. This WCCO newscast from January 1986 also contains an outstanding promo for WCCO radio from the "Real Radio" (Tuesday16) days. This image was dropped in 1988: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=nofGydudvek;t=18 WTHR, noon open and story from 1990:

Discovered composers & publishers of music themes

That'd make sense if that was Tuesday... The early 80s WOI theme was Tuesday, and I do get that San Diego sound... -
Never seen that. I assumed it was a CBS affiliate package when I saw WBMG with it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phR4752T3gY It also matches the Look campaign the network had. Also, I really do think KCCI commissioned Champion. The signature matches the "The Look of a Leader", and the ID sting seems to be sung as "The Look of a Leader, TV-8".

Here's another KXLY newscast from 1996, but this one uses Cue11's Total News:
-
KSAZ promos from Ron Hoon's return to the station in 1998. He'd been at KTSP in the mid-80s then left for KPNX for over a decade...

Some Rochester material from 1992: A WOKR midday tease and weather promo:

With a domain name like that, it almost has to be Nexstar! Except it isn't.
-
Ooh, that WHP/KLBK theme. It wasn't phased out until 1999. When Gannett bought KNAZ, they instituted a new logo and graphics and shipped KPNX's previous set to Flagstaff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9AviilIGZQ Ultimately, it was replaced with Power News.

Some WUHF promos from 1985, using Turn To!

Discovered composers & publishers of music themes

I actually went digging for this a little over a month ago and came up with the name David Baron, who did a bunch of network branding stuff in the 90s. There was a shop Baron and Baron that did this sort of material. ——— I did make a find, though. "It's WHO We Are" is Peters! And the short-lived WKRN 1986 was written by Jeffrey Steinberg. -
Arizona 5 News promos and teases from 1996: What goes into making Idaho 8 News in 1996?
-
A KTVK PM Magazine promo and station ID slide from May 1982. The "meatball" 3 is not yet in evidence, and the station logo was still the italicized inline 3 debuted in 1980.

There isn't an open, but a minor correction to the NMSA is better than nothing at all from *this* market:
-
So amazing to see that, especially the live shot pan at 7:03. That area looks nothing like that now...tons of new development, and the building with the maroon awnings could be coming down too.
-
Compare those late 1995 teases to these from January of the same year: Here are some from early 1996:
-
Well, that's a nice collection — even has the very rare first iteration of TVbD opens and some stuff I've never seen. You want old? Here's old: a KSEL (now KAMC, Lubbock) promotional film from 1969! The station had been on air a year at this point. And even older? KDUB (now KLBK) news and other material from the 50s and 60s! Too old? Let's stay in Texas for this cool behind-the-scenes look at a KDBC newscast from 1992...with a news music surprise!

Wow, Yuma! The theme used by KSWT (at 0:14) was previously used by KTVH: There's a very brief clip of the open confirming that was the theme: What's absolutely bizarre is that Ashley Webster went from KTVH to KSWT — both stations using the same news theme! (Yes, that Ashley Webster now on FBN!)
-
A KCBS Action News tease from 1993! Also, KAET stuff so rare I've never seen it: And more KNXV from 1997 (That Investigators logo is STILL in use): And I believe this is one of the last commercials ever run by Valley National Bank, so I'm posting it:
-
So this video is interesting if only to note that KOAT was still using the John Christopher Burns graphics but the desk on their set had hints of the Hearst package to come...
