The KNOE TV8 Late Report in 1993: KTVH News 12 at 10 in 1998: More of the mystery morass of WVNY: And an awful KTAL open... And for good measure, KDLT News from 1991:

KWWL promos from the mid-90s with the male voiceover whose name we don't know and the female voiceover I associate with KCNC: Ten years of WHEC stuff: A full 6pm WBRE Eyewitness News in 1996: And the open to the WCAX Late News in 1988, with the station's typical no-frills open:

None of these things come from the same market:

It was even used for coverage of the World Series parade in November 2001, though I don't think the video can be found anywhere now. Yup, that definitely shed some much-needed clarity when I found it 5 years ago. At the time, I quipped of the image promo at 5:13 in that clip, "Let's just say I may take back every word I've said about repetitive Turn To campaign songs." BTW, Jim Scoutten at this time was also anchoring Eyewitness News (in addition to filling in).

A promo for WTVT's 5:30 news in 1986:

In this case, the entire island was devastated. There's likely good quantities of it in Florida (PR expats) though.

It occurs to me that *all* future PR material is going to be exceedingly difficult to find...

More Vimeo, because there's great material... No opens but snippets of primarily KHSL and KXTV reports from the very early 80s/late 70s. The reporter you see here, Mary Bird, apparently died covering a news story in 1982. Director's cut of KSTU's "Fox News at Nine" with Nick Clooney from December 14, 1992. This is the oldest footage available of KSTU's news operation in its first year! A KFSN 5:00 show from 1992, also with director audio: WDAF's Fox 4 News at 6 from 1997. Six people have died in a Kansas City house fire and Phil Witt is at the fire station:

An Arizona Republic high school sports show from the late 90s that aired on KPHO? Wowza! (Can't have lasted much longer than 2000 on channel 5!) A couple non-Phoenix rarities... These aren't news, but holy heck they are rare... KAET's "College Beat" student-produced variety program from 1970. And I had to save the best for absolute freakin' last. WALLACE & LADMO!

Back up the Vimeo truck! KSAZ's Arizona Prime News from 1995 with part of a teaser for 10 News at 10 with Bob Bruce! And a morning show segment: A KTVK Good Morning Arizona segment from 2004: An early 2000s KPHO story from the "TV5" era: And a later circa 2005-07 story:

There might be some material of it from 1983-84. That's the NewsCenter 10 we're missing. The progression goes like this. KOOL Theme 1980-82 ??? (TV10 News era) October 1982-January 1983 ??? (NewsCenter 10 Mk I) January 3, 1983-85?? Best Endeavours 1985-86/87 NewsCenter II 1986/87-April 1989 "The Vision"-era themes Best Endeavours could have been introduced when Close left the 10pm show in 1984. We're also generally missing the 6:00 show, which was bannered Arizona Evening News in the years prior to The Vision.

Boy oh boy, Chapin's voice does not sound good at all.

The NewsCenter Network (KNDO) pleads for its viewers to "Send Us The News!" in the mid-80s. And speaking of the Northwest, did KGW's 5pm open look cheap-o for 1987... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=ANo0tYbzfkA;t=1781 From Northwest to North, a close to KXJB News 4 in 1992 (using the NMSA "1990" theme). And the close to the public news program "Prairie News Journal" from 1993. And a rich delight, KCOP News 13 from 1989:
-
WTMJ, May 20, 1993 (man, how many final Cheers newscasts do we have!?)...
-
WCCO in 1991 with their custom "The Look" song, close to ALCS coverage. The headline opener strongly resembles the CBS Evening News of the era. No open. Home footage of the WXIA chopper covering a news story in 1989 plus WSB and WXIA news snippets (and opens) of the coverage. A WTVT editorial from 1986:
-
Vance sure loved his extended weights of sans serifs...
-
Is that a virtual set for KDNL? Also, that KDNL graphics package gives me a Vance-y feel...
-
Good point! The The Who clip is from 11/82. The KOOL News 10 set is still standing at that point, with the italic 10 removed. So that theory is out. However, it is from the TV10 News era and perhaps this was a secondary set for a weekend? newscast. The listed date of October of that clip makes it definitely from that period (newspaper articles suggest it signed on October 18, 1982). The Sunset 10 is on the lower third graphic — it was introduced immediately at the callsign change.

Feeling like Cleveland...

Holy Otis Conner!

A chunk of NewsCenter 10 from November 1986 — with the Best Endeavours era towards its very end. A pair of KOB promos from 1992: WAVY in 1988: And a full look at KOBR from that year. Watch a station operator run an EBS test, gander at station equipment and more!

This account of retro WTVG stuff is getting overlooked:

It bugs me how the rotating "ARIZONA" in the open isn't centered to the circle of the logo. Little did they know what would be shaking them up... In terms of TV news, at 16:53 is a story about a WTSP news helicopter crash. Also good to see more examples of Fresh News and the graphics package they had. It's a good one that understandably had to be killed off. Also interesting to see how the logo had varying colors...Application was inconsistent of this logo after the February 1994 reboot. ——— "Nobody gives you more local news than we do!" It's KNDO News 23 from November 1993.

The end of ASU's 1987 football tilt with the University of the Pacific (yes, they were once D-1) and a tease for KTVK NewsChannel 3. A couple pieces of KTSP weekend newscasts from 1987 with Ron Hoon and Diane Ryan:
-
Oh, this is totally worth a watch. So many good stories: This may be a parody newscast, but with footage so rare, even seeing an open is a treat... If you want real news, though, get a load of KTVN's very red set.
