  1. Some more: WTVJ 1992 6am. Have you ever heard the morning cut of "Watch Our Teamwork"? It's just as hard hitting as the real thing. http://archive.org/details/tobacco_smx27a00 KING 1993 6:30pm (date is a guesstimate). Note the "First in the Northwest" script in the open. http://archive.org/details/tobacco_wwx27a00 KATU "Town Hall". Maybe late 1980s? http://archive.org/details/tobacco_uxw27a00 In a visit to low-budget land, it's "Detroit Daily" from the always low-budget WGPR-62. What is the theme? http://archive.org/details/tobacco_umx27a00 In similar UHF territory, WVEU-69 Atlanta. Miss the days when these programs existed? http://archive.org/details/tobacco_dww27a00 "Cable News 21", Rockville, Maryland. Mid-late 1990s? http://archive.org/details/tobacco_kwx27a00 A variety from 1988: WCCO "Newsday", KMOV "Midday" tease and open, KDFW "Point of View" open. http://archive.org/details/tobacco_xww27a00 There's no open, but something is a serious mismatch between the label and the source of this segment. Can you find the problem? http://archive.org/details/tobacco_vyy27a00
  2. WDAF Kansas City, mid-late 1990s. This is the alternate signature Impact. Closer to 1998 or 1999 given the design of the open and the fact that the sample we have has a different VO December 5, 1997:
  3. WTAP Parkersburg, early 90s (WROC 1992 theme?) http://archive.org/d...obacco_lsy27a00 WHTM-WHP 1991. The 11pm cut of the WHTM '92 theme and an un-ID'd WHP theme! http://archive.org/details/tobacco_zxx27a00 WOWT c.1990? What is this news theme? http://archive.org/details/tobacco_tsx27a00 WJTV, late 1980s? morning open. What is this? Production music highly likely: http://archive.org/details/tobacco_dpx27a00 KFMB 11/21/91 5pm: http://archive.org/details/tobacco_enx27a00 KCRA 10pm 1992? (no, really): http://archive.org/details/tobacco_anx27a00 1990s KGWN 5pm NewsHour and 10pm Nightcast opens with Pride Inside: http://archive.org/details/tobacco_nmx27a00 WFLA c1991 noon open: http://archive.org/details/tobacco_zlx27a00 KCBS 12pm 1993 (yes, "For ALL of Southern California"): http://archive.org/details/tobacco_exv27a00 News 12 Long Island 1991: http://archive.org/details/tobacco_ryx27a00 Note for posterity: there are serious call letter typos throughout the collection (WBX, KORA, "WWAC"-->WMAR, etc.)
  4. The NMSA also thinks it's a bumper when quite clearly it's a close. I've replied with my rebuttal. "That's it for this edition of News 40" sounds nothing like a bumper. That's a close. To get back on track, here's an international find. The first night of Brisbane Ten News after TVQ's 0-10 switch in September 1988. By this point, however, Turn To was gone. At the end of the year they began using the standardized purple/gold/silver "Ten News" look.
  5. 8Viewer: Yes I can! Nice catch. At 1:01 is the same instrument heard at 0:06 of the NMSA's 30-second close cut of the package.
  6. I found a lot of stuff just in one morning. Some of it's really good, too. WDAF, late 1991. This was an update to the 1989-90 theme that included new graphics. It was out the door by early 1992. http://youtu.be/RDTuOwUrgFU From 2003, KCTV produced this retrospective to celebrate 50 years on the air. Included is a clip (though they speak over it) that proves that the station used Part of Your Life in 1977. http://www.youtu.be/ljGkPb5GLTo From 1979, WTSP's Action News! Complete with blooper and open featuring unknown news theme. One particular news fan has a lot of junk and a lot of treasure on his account. This is some of the news treasure, rescued from the old TVNewsThemes site! WOLF 1993 10pm open: WBNG 1995 weekend open. What's the theme? http://youtu.be/PN_kfeUJOHg
  7. A rather strange early 1990s news theme for TeleOnce in Puerto Rico. Yes, the newscast is sponsored! Note some inconsistency in logos between the tease and open. Some time after (1993-94?) they switched to a TV by Design package and began using Prime News. http://youtu.be/GF-74mDKe60 You be the judge. Is this 1988 TeleOnce image song a version of Gari's Say Hello? It might be! It's been redone in Spanish as Pasando lo mejor (Bringing (You) The Best). http://youtu.be/HgLAs29O7Tc A funkier theme for 1981 and WAPA's Noticentro 4:
  8. jacky9br continues offering us a slice of Southern TV news in the 90s. Now with Corpus Christi, too! WDSU 1992 7:55 open: http://www.youtu.be/4yaT_kaLWqU WBRZ late 1995. This is a weird latter-day cut of Pride Inside that sounds a bit foreboding. Walls and Balls would not last much longer, though Pride Inside managed to stick around for two more years: WWL 1993. Am I hearing that right? KIII 1995 open with the WBTW-KTUL-WTVH voiceover guy: http://www.youtu.be/A_R7Av-XLu0 From the same night, a news update with a theme that we've heard before. Bonus points if you tell me what other station used it:
  9. Oh no. That should bring KTVX some attention. Hey, they really need it!
  10. Some pretty new and interesting Australian exports: and — dueling Frank Gari image songs all the way in Adelaide. SAS-10 used "Stand Up"/Turn To, and "Say Hello" found its way to ADS-7. Also, some regional news from Australia throughout the 1980s. The second one sure doesn't sound or look like a serious newscast: and http://www.youtu.be/-7EN9ofx4p0 and http://www.youtu.be/WWHpwWlX9Hg
  11. Two intriguing finds from the Internet Archive. One is a KCNC "Colorado Today" open from 1992 (not sure of theme). The other is KOB's Eyewitness News Conference program from the 1980s sometime.
  12. It took six months, but I realized why this, perhaps my only ever news-related upload, never showed up — the privacy was incorrect! This always fascinated me as a little boy (it was at the start of the third Wheel of Fortune episode I have up, so I saw it somewhat often). This was probably one of a few things that got me interested in local TV news.
  13. KWQC 1987 (News Image, different cut than known):
  14. KDBC 1992 (theme unknown): http://youtu.be/yAXcYnLCcCM KTSM 1996 (Advantage): http://youtu.be/ZEbsuhlH5cg KGAN 1985 (first open from this era of Hello available): KOB 1978 (African Suite): KOB 1993 (via KOBR): http://youtu.be/Jf4SNMVVmww
  15. One skipped bone from the Internet Archive. Boy, is it a doozy! WRBL early 1980s: http://www.archive.org/details/tobacco_mpi49h00
  16. Part 4 of what is probably one of the best new finds in years. Highlights include a WSFA 6pm open with the Alabama's News Source package, a WPMI open with the voice of Larry Van Nuys, and the first ever proven use of Lattitude Music's More People Watch.
  17. Another look at WTVN's Spirit of Ohio package dropped in 1987. From March 12, before the one we have:
  18. Another Spokane news open, another theme. Two KREM news themes are now missing from the NMSA, this and a 1987 theme probably related to Centerpiece: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3va7zmRJVc
  19. Classic stuff early, modern stuff later: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDwChpIs29w The modern section focuses on upper Wisconsin and Michigan.
  20. Though I'm posting the latest NA3 part in the 2000-present thread because it focuses on a lot of present-day opens, there are two awesome items in Part 83: -A KAIT open from circa 1989 using The Image Leader. The graphics were made by the station but are clearly Television by Design-influenced. -A WABI open from 1999 that might be a couple years older. Despite not being a channel 4, they decided to rip off KCNC's Image X-era graphics. There might be some influence from their Spirit News-era graphics (beginning), too. Results are a mixed bag, including what I consider poor timing decisions.
  21. KTVK still has "Good Morning Arizona"...
  22. WLWT "News 5 Tonight", 1985. This was probably a new theme at the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LX15dT3CQ8
  23. Who knew a KSTP semi-satellite in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, could cash in on Facebook? http://www.poynter.o...tion-big-story/ Also...KTXS and KTXE have debuted HD local news, making them the first in either market to do so: http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/2011/08/11/53197/ktxs-ktxe-debut-hd-local-news And one news anchor is making a career change to top all career changes. From morning met to...restaurateur? http://www.wptz.com/news/28824371/detail.html
  24. I've enclosed some Phoenix oddities I've found. Some news packages that haven't made opens in six years are in use for other purposes. KSAZ commissioned Global Grid from Cue11 in 2002. It was phased out in 2005 for Fusion News (which they still use today alongside the Fox O&O package). But sponsor tags have kept the older theme. KPHO dropped News One for Enforcer in 2005, but the weather sounder from the package has remained since the Enforcer switch. Earlier this year on a live sports wrap, I heard a News One cut opening the sports wrap. I am trying to get some audio footage of that. To prove it's a current clip, it's a little longer with the Enforcer series 1 bump out to break included. These are my own audio recordings. Sadly, the right audio channel does not work. I also recorded a solid minute of KPHO's weather subchannel (which loops a weather cut of Enforcer with no VOs except for station promos) and some NMSA samples the same way — KTAZ's no longer got the Telemundo News Theme. I can't even figure out what they ARE using! KSAZ Global Grid 2011.mp3 KPHO News One weather sounder.mp3
  25. Well, they didn't have a news presence — at least that one is not so repetitive! Edit: NC news odds and ends, 1994. Who decided The Image Leader was a decent package to use in 1994!? http://www.youtu.be/LwaecrkU6IA Edit 2: Jim Heath has more Phoenix awesomeness: KPHO, 1986 close. At this time they were airing 11:30 and 9:30 newscasts. And dig that set! http://youtu.be/3ANh5948Ws4 KPNX, mid-1980s sports theme. This has a 99% chance of being a Hello News cut: http://youtu.be/H57lhIlaAWU KPNX, 1986 credits and small promo. The credits feature their awesome "We're Going Where You're Going" image theme from the late 1980s, but the promo uses Hello News and the Action News imaging. There was probably a transitional period between these two: http://youtu.be/VADk_S-bMJE
