I love this theme - it's been used around Canada by CBC stations, including (at least) in British Columbia, Ottawa, and Montreal

Again folks, as I find stuff, I post it. Right now, I'm focusing on getting the 20+ year old newscasts. Once I get to the 2000s, I've got tons, and it will take some time just in uploading stuff (just the real time converting and uploading the files takes a while - and I have a full-time+ job and am taking a class in the evenings).

I'm going to start linking everything off of a web-site - which will probably become my "Classic Newscast Museum". Once I get stuff posted (and a standard page format developed), I'll let everyone know...

Also, I'm testing some 30fps vs. 60fps content from SD:

Thoughts/Comments? (Vimeo seems to be giving me fits with the 60fps video...)

  7. Why KPNX was airing a 7pm newscast on a Sunday evening?

KPNX ran Wonderful World of Disney from 5-7pm, rather than 6-8pm (as was done in Central Time zone). I believe at that time, when the NFL ran long, Disney was "joined in progress", thus a 7pm newscast guaranteed that they full half hour (+ the full Nightly News West Coast feed) ran in their entirety.

  10. Here's some 30 year-old goodness from Baltimore. I found this on an old tape and knew I needed to post it... This is my second-oldest newscast I recorded (that I've found so far). The oldest is a mid-summer 10pm from KCEN (it was supposed to be KTVV, but due to interference, the Channel 36 signal dropped from our cable system, as I was recording "a Thursday night of NBC").

At the time WMAR didn't carry the Tonight Show, pre-empted NBC often for Orioles Baseball, and didn't clear parts of the NBC daytime schedule (thank goodness WRC, which I could also receive at the time, did clear the entire schedule - can't miss the game shows!).

I do chuckle at Ken Matz struggling through "North American Man Boy Love Association" during the tease... Also, during the 6pm newscast, the 2 logo flies toward the screen to the studio through the hole in the 2.

    Enjoy!

  11. The graphics in that WVIR open set, especially the beginning and end animations and the lower third, have a very strong NBC News early '90s feel...

They had no real emphasis to change - as a 180s/190s ranked market with 1 commercial and 1 PBS station (a satellite out of Richmond, I believe). Everything else was out of market on cable; not bad for a one-station college town (reminds me of Bryan/College Station during the mid 80s...).

  15. Why are you even posting there to begin with? Why not just use YouTube? (As far as I know there isn't a limit on how much you can upload....)

You could just put the full newscast on YouTube, as they'll let anybody upload anything. They don't even have that 10-minute limit anymore.

I chose Vimeo for several reason - mostly, I have better control over the content (quality, access, etc.). I've seen too many cases of entire histories of newscasts gone when someone gets kicked out of YouTube over content. Plus, I'm fed up with the ads all over YouTube. I'm paying for the hosting, so I can better manage the content.

If a question is raised, I can address it, rather than having a flat-out ban.

It's content I can control (in that it's stuff I recorded or was recorded specifically for me), and I feel that Vimeo provides the best option for my needs. Plus Vimeo flies a but under the radar, whereas YouTube is more "in your face". I'm not trying to monetize anything - just want to make the content available to fellow enthusiasts.

(Plus if I dumped everything at once, there'd be a giant productivity loss from y'all!)
