3. WTVG/ 13 Strong NBC era Young Randy Price at WTVG 13
4. KCCI's news director Dave Busiek will retire at the end of the year. The station only had (3) news directors in the entire station history. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2018/9/13/out-the-door-in-iowa

6. I bet you Zucker, has no regrets about Trump being President, and how the daily coverage of the President. Yeah, it litterally like watching a reality show. Zucker, will be on at CNN through 2020. I never liked how he moved everything from Atlanta to NYC. CNN's HQ was started in Atlanta and I'm sure Ted Turner, is so pissed off about how his former Cable News Network has become. Zucker, an egomaniac just like any other executive. He wants the ratings, and looking at the ratings, CNN chasing MSNBC and have a some wins, but not the big dog it used to be.
7. Well, we have a difference of opinion on the issue, but I look at detail, history, and how the brand is define, and messaging At the end of the day it all about packaging the product. Logos, sets, tv personalities, music, because it selling the station as a whole package to the consumer. Of course market research is science by all means, and of course ratings come into play. Again, there are many top stations in the country with the same moniker branding name/ logo for (4) decades i.e. WABC, KABC, WLS, WPVI. Then you have even third place stations still stuck with the same logo and moniker name i.e. KSTP, WXIA and somehow I guess the market research wasn't too scientific for those station. Of Course logos have been modified from the Hearst Station to all the Circle 7, nobody is doubting that. As for WEWS they could have 500 circle 5 logo, but the current one didn't execute their brand, their station legacy. Even though the station had another logo during 1998-2007 era wasn't bad as the current one. IMO I just think the current one sucks! Hey, you can be tired of talking about it until Brittany Spears comes out with a hit clothing line. We all have our likes, dislikes about the industry so what are you going to do about it? This is a forum for us to discuss about anything TV, right? We just have a difference of opinion which isn't new on here.
8. WRTV/Indy WISH/Indy during CBS era WTVW/Evansville during ABC era
9. WKEF/Dayton during NBC era WHIO/Dayton
10.
For years, WEWS has been lagging behind WKYC and WJW and, at times, even WOIO. That's why WEWS rebranded the way that it did. Granted, the logo isn't great but only because it's super-generic. However, NewsChannel 5 as a brand wasn't cutting it just like Eyewitness News in 1990. That's why WEWS had to distance itself away and "start over".

To be fair, WEWS has struggled in some way or form since the late 90s, right around the time WKYC managed to free themselves of the negative connotation of “NBC’s farm team station” and being “the third station” in the market. But that’s part of the story. WEWS has had a litany of general managers and news directors since the late 1990s. Their new news director is the second straight one to come from KMGH. It took them a year to find a replacement for longtime anchor Ted Henry, and that replacement - Chris Flanagan - didn’t pan out. Then the station lost Oprah, Dr. Oz bombed badly and WoF/J! were lost due to corporate meddling. Meanwhile, WJW took the clear and decisive lead in mornings - ground that WEWS had to cede completely when they were forced to move the groundbreaking “Morning Exchange” out of morning drive. WEWS has blown up their morning show roster at least half a dozen times over the past five years, and that’s not hyperbole. A badly generic logo is the least of Lotto 5’s troubles.
@Myron Falwell is right in the late 90s/00s WEWS did struggle in the AM, but noon, 5,6 would win and 11pm would go to WKYC. However @NEOMatrix your right WEWS has struggle over the last few years. WKYC, WJW and even WOIO have been able to maintain it brand, and their product. Dispite WOIO's issues it still have persevere. 2013 was the last time I found WEWS to won 11pm. I agree WEWS and other Scripps stations. Their main issues have been the micromanaging of Scripps with those in-house shows. Getting rid of WoF/J was a mistake for those stations. I agree you can start over, but when you start over make sure your brand also matches your product. Their news product isn't as bad as I thought, but again this is a legacy station. The station legacy is remarkable, but here hoping somebody there could rectify the problem IMO. When people tell you they rather watch WOIO/19 or even think their product is more superior than the other established (3) stations in the market. That speaks volume!
11. WJW/Cleveland in 1989 CBS era WJW/Cleveland in 1993 CBS era
12. Ok your arguement has value and merit, but remember young people don't watch news, or television. Young people are getting news from social media, or watching from their phones, tablet. If they're watching news. They will not sit for an hour or 30 minute newscast. They may watch a minute clip. Now, you can't dismiss the 35-49 demographic viewer that more educated, and more consumer savvy, and income more stable. Also the consumer who grew up watching that same station with their parents/ grandparents. That brand has stand out for generations. Again, you said some dated logo & slogan from 70s serving as their brand, but let look at WSB/Atlanta- Coverage You Can Count On slogan since 1991. #1 station in the market. WCVB/Boston, WATE/Pittsburgh, WISN/Milwaukee the Hearst station have had the same logo since the 70s, but they've just kept their news fresh and kept up with the times. WXYZ/Detroit another Scripps station and the circle 7 been there for along time when it was owned by ABC. Yes, it been modifed but circle 7 is very synonymous with WXYZ and their brand. McDonalds brand is the golden arches it been modifed over the years. Since 1971, Nike had the swoosh, and different versions. A girl with freckles and pigtails is the Wendy's brand. There are some logos that have been with brands for decades now. They've just modifed/refresh with new color, but the brand has kept up with the times. WEWS/Circle 5 and First in Ohio....The first tv station in the state and the market. It maybe old, but it has defined their brand for decades. For Cleveland market the states biggest market. No, it not in the top ten. Des Monies, IA had the same logo on their Channel 5. Whoever said yes to WEWS logo thought it was the cat's meow, but it doesn't define WEWS' brand and looks cheap IMO.
13. Why didn't they stick with the one they had or go back to the orignal circle 5? How many drafts did they have? WPTV were able to keep their circle 5 logo, but again what were the reasoning? Look at WCVB, WISN and WTAE there a reason those logos stand out and have been synonymous with their brand identity for decades. http://logos.wikia.com/wiki/WEWS-TV http://logos.wikia.com/wiki/WPTV-TV
14. I never said that they didn't, but I just gave my opinion. I know they went through research & marketing and the whole process ,however for the station to have the call letters of it owner, and to be the state first tv station. One would think they would embrace quality over quantity. They can do whatever they want, but we all have given our opinons on everything on this site. YOU don't have to like my opinion, but I'm just sayin'-
15. WJCL must had changed, because in the late 90s into 2000s they only had a 6/11pm news. Glad somebody did clarified.
16. I watched WEWS TV5 11pm news, and it seems to be getting it footing back. The station now 71 yrs old, and when you look at other top ABC affiliates they invested in a new generation of anchors/reporters i.e. WCVB, KMBC, WSB, WSOC, WFTV, WPLG, KABC, WLS, & WABC. For Scripps to make that 10 year ABC affiliate deal with Scripps back in 1994. WEWS & WXYZ should of prepare themseleves for the next generation. My biggest issue is that logo, because logo identify your brand, and it what stand out. The branding name NEWS 5 too generic. I would rather them go back to Eyewitness News, and those damn Scripps graphics are nauseating. The ABC O&Os say what you will, but at the end of the day. Their stations are still able to stand on it legs despite being owned by Disney. Glad to hear their expanding their noon news. Here hoping WEWS & WXYZ can get back on top.
17. Here today Friday, August 31st, 2018 from newsblues.com about Dispatch Printing Co....Take it however you want it...just sharing- Our sources tell us that Dispatch Broadcast Group, owner of WBNS in Columbus, OH and WTHR in Indianapolis is preparing to extend early retirement offers to several employees in September. Dispatch, a family-owned company forever, also owns radio stations and cable outlets in Ohio.
18. So WATE will be keeping the ad dollars in house from 3pm-6:30pm. Lifestyle show at 3pm then, 4, 5, 6PM News and Judy & Family Feud will still be on during 7pm hour. Doesn't WBIR have a lifestyle show and WVLT has a 4PM News? Very competitive in Knoxville. I was reading that the city population has expanded. I wonder if this market one day going to trump Memphis?
19. Why not blame Jeff Zucker? He's the one at the helm of the network. Ever since he took over he did turn CNN into a reality show cable news. The last few days Maddow/O'Donnell/Williams had big wins last week and Lemon won a slot on CNN. You can be mad at what they're doing, but in 2018 and beyond. All these exectives at every network don't care about journalism. They care about $$$ revenue and what good for their shareholders. Remember Jeff Zucker & Trump were friends. Don't know how that friendship is today, and the same with Mika & Joe were friends with Trump, and now they hate him. Well, Zucker, Mika & Joe should hate themselves while they're at it. At the end of the day it business as usual, and we live in a different era with the internet, everybody rushing to post something on social media for the clicks. When CNN was the loneranger in the early days. If there were social media/internet around 1990 & 1991, who knows how local/network/cable news would be back then. I agree journalism is gone, and yes CNN used to be the gold standard, but that the past. We can hem and haw about what used to be, but those that should be held accountable executives, producers and more. Again, remember these cable outlets are owned by corporations, and look at FOX NEWS. There no journalist bone of intergery in their news, they know how to cater to an audience (use tactics of fear), but they make a boatload of money in the process. Will it change? Who knows?
20. Jeopardy! Should of been moved to 3:30PM and a great lead-in to 4PM news. Inside Edition would be better at 1pm instead of Jeopardy! IMO- Wheel/Jeopardy! Have always been together (depending on the market) On CST WALA & WDJT have the show tag-team at 6pm and do well and KRQE airs the show at 6 & 6:30pm on MST. On the EST side could any station take the risk and do something other stations on other times zones will do. For example can any station run hour-long 4 & 5PM news and Jeopardy! at 6pm/Network News at 6:30pm, Local News at 7, Wheel at 7:30 EST Time or. Hour-long 4 & 5pm News, Jeopardy! at 6pm, Local News at 6:30PM, Network News at 7, Wheel at 7:30? Again, can anybody see any market that on EST doing something different and changing it up like the other time zones?
21. Do they really need a news at 3pm? This is starting to be a trend...Is this an hourlong or half hour? Someone raised the question about Jeopardy? This should be more of a Lifestyle show?
22. Doug left in 1994 retired. Angela Pace had left CMH for BNS in 1992 and Doug/Colleen worked for a hot minute. Colleen was on the weekends until Angela left. Gail Hogan was on LIVE at FIVE & 5:30 LIVE. Cabot Rea, had been with the station a long time and took over for Doug Adair. Cabot, was weeknight main anchor from 1994-2016 (22 Years) but had a total 31 years at CMH. Colleen still going and she been there since 1987. 31 years total. Jerry Revish as been at BNS for 38 years.
