Syndicated News for the 2022-23 TV Season
Breaking News replied to H-Town TV Fan's topic in General TV
YR contract ends in 2024 & Bold contract ends in 2023. The Bell Family that started both shows- the eldest son was responsible of selling the shows overseas. Where their $$$ comes from. Lee Philip Bell was very popular in Chicago back in the day at WBBM. Idk if the Family has some type of blood deal with CBS. Who knows both shows could get a year renewal before morphing into Paramount. I could see Bold either on Paramount or even take a dip to Pop ( at one time Bold was airing reruns on there) as for YR- it run by Sony Television Pictures. The Bells' own Bold outright. As for the ratings in the soap world they're looking at the demos18-49 & 18-25 arena and Bold has been beating big sister YR for several cycles. YR still #1 in HH. They could it cost 50 million dollars to produce a soap. When ABC dumped their two soaps; Madison Ave came out and said they were still invested in soap opera viewing, because the audience is there and stable. Do we really want to see more news in the afternoon? The soap audience hating seeing Talk Shows, or another news program replaced their soap. They've watched with their grandmothers, then their mothers and etc. They want the escapism, and they want to be entertained. They don't want to see GMA or Today on for the whole day. The executives at the network is looking at the bottom line of course, and today's executives seem to be more concern about cheaper program vs. the entertainment value. Anything is possible. -
Tell that to the people who still watch and tweet about it. As well have a podcast dedicated to genre. Oh yeah, that will go well with them with that flipping' comment.

Standard General to acquire Tegna for $8.6 Billion
Breaking News replied to dman748's topic in General TV
Cox & TEGNA should of just got out of the business, because Standard deal is stupid and nothing will change. Hearst & Cox should of just merge into a better model. Graham should of bought TEGNA, because the broadcasting pie is shrinking very rapidly!- 433 replies

r I remember that logo and watched WRIC TV8 News in the mid90s while visiting Richmond. However down the road Young seem to do some investing. It got to a point WRIC & WTVR were tied in some newscast and WRIC beat WTVR for #2. That logo made it for two decades and I don't know how it survived without changes, but Young Broadcasting, wasn't like many groups.

SkyCam goes back to their days in the late 70s and made the changes in the mid 90s. Channel 6 called theirs SKY 6 from the late 80s/90s and again 2009-10. There no chopper now.

Why exactly do they need another 4pm news? At what point does someone in management say this is overkill?

Despite WSB Cox/Apollo deal- WSB believes in getting talent from the competition and it has. John Pruitt had more than one stint at WSB and when he went to WXIA in 1978. He returned to WSB in 1994. Richard Belcher & Sally Sears both husband/wife worked at WAGA and landed at WSB and same with Pam Martin too. WSB plays for keeps. The one time WSB did get outplayed was both WSB & WXIA were courting Brenda Wood after she left WAGA. Brenda, thought she would end up at WSB and was rumor to succeed Monica a few years later. WXIA got Brenda while WSB was still making their deal. Karyn was weeknight anchor at 46 and weekend anchor -then morning anchor/reporter at WXIA, and returned to 46. I guess despite Karyn almost 60, WSB does see her as an asset to the community, but WSB is also playing a chess game too. Monica going to WGCL, but will get Karyn at WSB for all the gold. I agree with you and Brenda Wood, that Karyn is the most veteran anchor in Atlanta. Richard Belecher and Mark Winnie still on investigation beat at WSB. Russ Spencer at WAGA, and Hullinger at WXIA and news or sports. Hullinger been in the Atlanta market since 1984.
-
Not necessarily Shannon Walshe & Tiffany Diaz once worked at 46 during the WGNX days and were reporters at WSB-TV. Tiffany was a freelancer. Also Lori Wilson works at WSB-TV, but was at WGCL before going to Indianapolis and coming back to Atlanta. Linda Stouffer as well too was filling in.
-
Say what you will about WSB-TV & WGCL-TV and it looks like another Atlanta icon changing stations. Karyn Greer who been at both WGCL & WXIA. She heading over to WSB-TV. https://www.ajc.com/life/radiotvtalk-blog/veteran-cbs46-anchor-karyn-greer-replacing-jovita-moore-as-wsb-tv-evening-anchor/4FEG6I4FJ5CU3F6BPHSXTXOCBE/

I agree he should be on Today not MSNBC. Ali Velshi fill-ins and does weekends, but he should have his own weekday show.

Standard General to acquire Tegna for $8.6 Billion
Breaking News replied to dman748's topic in General TV
Soo Kim was a shareholder or on the board at TEGNA. Soo Kim had issues with TEGNA leadership under Lougee. Deborah McDermott. who ran Young Broadcasting runs Stand General. Standard and Apollo are not the same two different equity firms with tv station in the company portfolio. As much as FTVlive.com Scott can be. He had alot of stories about Kim and Lougee at TEGNA.- 433 replies

Standard General to acquire Tegna for $8.6 Billion
Breaking News replied to dman748's topic in General TV
FOX 5 will still be #2 and WSB will still be #1 WXIA will still be #3 until WGCL passes them up. WAGA's philosophy has been what's WSB doing? How are they covering the story? Let try to out do them? Despite Cox/Apollo deal one thing for sure they can screw up any station, but not the mothership WSB-TV. FOX doesn't want WHBQ and there was a reason why they got sold. FOX didn't do much investment into WHBQ.- 433 replies

Sinclair bought WSYX in 1996 not sure when they merged the buildings into each other. FOX 28 left their studios on Sunbury Rd and moved into WSYX's studios at 1261 Dublin Rd. The FOX set was in the same studio directly across from the two sets WSYX had at the time for their broadcast.
