  1. I saw that comment too and sent it over to David on Twitter. I'll see if he responds back.

They've been really into the "digital updates" on the 6ABC app lately. Even for mundane things like "Christmas week forecast." They must get a lot of traffic.

Not that I put much faith in this, but someone posted a comment on a picture Matt O'Donnell posted today saying David Murphy is retiring on January 2nd??? I find that hard to believe??

  2. Why are most of the 6abc meteorologists and weekday morning anchors posting on Twitter so much about watching Action News starting at 4:30 tomorrow? I wonder if there's going to be a big announcement or something? All the meteorologists keep saying "watch David Murphy for the latest weather", Karen Rogers posted about traffic, and Tamala Edwards posted something about Target brand ice cream. They never advertise this much about the newscast unless they're starting at an earlier time or something big is announced. Just seems odd

  3. I have always been a fan of Action News and have been watching them for most of the years I have been living. I have to say though, I have been watching NBC10 the past few months way more than 6ABC. There is just something about it that I like more than 6.

I did a studio tour this past August at NBC10 and all the anchors, behind the scenes people, and meteorologists were much more friendly and hype to talk to their guests. I went to 6ABC in August of 2010 and the people there were friendly but didn't care for you as much. The only people that actually said something were David Murphy (who gave me the tour), Rick Williams, Sarah Bloomquist, and Matt O'Donnell.

The control room people didn't say two words at 6ABC. The lady at NBC10 got right up from her seat and showed me everything they do in the control room).

One thing that certainly seems amatuerish is the new Action News Sports Center I've seen on the 10PM news (and at other dayparts). Looks like an idea hatched to give the sports guys somewhere to stand. Four TVs, two of which seem to cycle through a powerpoint of sports team logos, and the other two have a quad-view of... sports.

Also, have noticed the monitor background really reflects the lighting rigs. I can certainly agree they are going with flashy over polish...

Yes. I noticed that too. The video wall behind the anchor desk reflects the studio lights on the ceiling. Kind of distracting and stupid looking
  5. I watched NBC10 News at 6pm tonight and found it kind of annoying that you could hear the studio construction going on in the background during Hurricane Schwartz weather report. There was low banter and things banging in the background. I'm surprised somebody didn't tell them to stop working during the newscasts or when weather/traffic comes on

Awesome. They're probably going to keep the general look and feel of the current set but add in those new elements. I wonder if they're going to add some useful space in there cause in its current iteration there is a lot of empty space behind the anchors that never got to really be used cause the robotic cameras couldn't access it properly.

Bill Henley just gave me a tour last Friday of their studio. It's big but tiny since they have a lot of stuff in there. There are 4 robotic cameras, the anchor desk, 2 green screens (one gigantic one and a small one), and the big weather center. There is a lot of space between the anchor desk and the glass wall. They could move the desk back about 2 feet.

Looks like something is up studio wise. They've got a temporary setup in the streetside studio (the former 10! Show studio) they've been using since 11AM this morning. I can't see them getting a completely new set since they're moving downtown in 3 years but their current set had been around since 2008 and it could use a refresh to hold them over til '17.

Bill Henley told me their installing a video wall behind the anchor desk and their adding 113" monitors around the studio. All he said was "we're revamping the studio" so I don't know if that means their getting a new set as well or not. They will continue using the street side studio until the renovations are finished and weather and traffic will still be done in the regular studio.
