Where's the vid at? I want to see it.
Here it is:

I'm predicting NBC 6 Charlotte News. Similar to what KNSD did to become NBC 7 San Diego News.
Maybe WCNC will debut the new Gannett website then.

Apparently the folks at KABB have nothing better to do after the Spurs won Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Former WTSP anchor Ginger Gadsden is joining WKMG as an evening anchor. She will join Matt Austin in co-anchoring at 5:30 and will solo anchor at 7:00. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/ginger-gadsden-to-join-wkmg-in-orlando_b121892
Bruce Haffner, former helicopter pilot for KTVK, is leaving. He had been at 3TV for twenty years. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/ktvk-chopperguy-leaving-station_b121858

I guess Gannett calls its CMS platform "Presto". Did a Google search on "Gannett trains KVUE on Presto" and crazy articles show up, though all with the ux-train subdomain of various websites.
Mainly WBIR, the first station to get the new website. Coincidence? I think not.

Here we are. May 6. Exactly one year after the paperwork of the ComCorp deal was posted.
Now we'll see if we're still going to be in this holding pattern within the next six months. I believe this deal, along with WICZ & the Grant deal would probably hit their outside dates around that time as well, this fall?
And I forget to mention on my last posting above about the JSA attribution vote, Nexstar holds the most stations that are involved in these sharing arrangements (20). So it will be interesting to see what Nexstar has to say when they announce their Q1 earnings on Thursday.
Why can't they just leave KMSS, KSHV, WEVV and KPEJ out of this? Then the deal would for sure go through (unless the FCC wants to see WVLA/WGMB and KETK/KFXK broken up). It seems so simple.

KCNC throwing it back today: their #TBT today shows Alan Gionet and "The Big Switch" back in 1995.
Meanwhile, KGWN has begun using the standard Gray graphics...somewhat; they're still using the QNI ripoffs for their opens. (click on "NewsChannel 5 at 5:30pm"; it's their weather segment)

It depends on how the competition fares. In a small market like Medford, Oregon, where the Sinclair station has more resources than the locally-owned competition (KOBI), that may be the case. This may change once Prather takes control of KDRV and if he invests in making that station competitive.
KDRV actually leads that market, according to Wikipedia. KDRV is also the only station in the market that still has a sports department; KOBI and KTVL both got rid of theirs in '09.

I read on Twitter WYMT in Hazard, KY is getting HD. How does a station in the 25th largest market (WCNC) allow a station in HAZARD, KENTUCKY to beat them to HD? Even after the change to Gannett. WCNC should have got it a long time ago!
Hopefully they'll have new graphics to replace this piece of crap:

I'm surprised that nobody has found the KFMB 2013 news music yet. I might try and search around for it...

It's Friday, and that means another entry by TVNewsCheck's Harry Jessell:

Former WVTM anchor Hilary Golston is joining WKYC Cleveland:

WPGA, Macon, GA (I put this on the unknown themes thread earlier but figured I'd post it here too):
-
OK, I just came across this. This is WPGA, the former ABC affiliate in Macon, Georgia. Probably never going to find the answer for this piece of crap but thought I'd throw it out there. And you all thought KIEM was bad…
-
That was quick. And as for WHBF?Just stumbled upon last night... WOI's website will be WeAreIowa.com. And, Nexstar's Android apps for WOI are available from the Google Play Store.

This came out on TVNC this morning; somewhat interesting but probably isn't going to matter that much to Wheeler.

Looks like Nexstar is ready to start in-house ops in the Upper Peninsula.
TVNewsCheck states that in April, WJMN will have a separate 6 & 11pm newscasts on WJMN Channel 3 in Marquette, MI. The new newscasts will be house in a "new state-of-the-art facility" which will be known as "WJMN-TV Plaza". Former WBKP-WBUP news director Cynthia Thompson, will serve as an ND and news anchor for the separate "Local 3" newscasts.
Well it's about time!!! This may actually challenge WLUC in the ratings, unlike WBUP.

Found this gem from the Cayman Islands (third one down that says "CAYMAN 27 NEWS AT SIX"):
http://new.livestream.com/Cayman27/online
It may be the Cayman Islands, but this has US written all over it. They have J.C. Burns graphics and they even have Harry Schultz as a voice-over. I know that they had used 615's "The Rainmaker" at one point but this doesn't sound like that.

If the "Big 4" are the top four rated stations in each market, here's the issues in the top-50:It seems that the ideal number of English-language local news operations to ensure profitability is:
Top 50 markets - 4
Markets 51 to 100 - 3
Markets 101 to 125 - 2 or 3
Markets 126 to 175 - 2
Markets 176 and up - 1
Based on that, a possible rule could be (for commercial stations only - PBS and non-commercial religious stations are excluded in the station counts):
* Top 50 markets - no sharing agreements with top-4 stations under any circumstances, maximum of 2 of the top 8 stations or 3 of the top 12 stations
* Markets 51 to 125 - no sharing agreements with top-3 stations, maximum of 2 of the top 7 stations
* Markets 126 and up - permitted except between top-2 stations (allows for competition in small markets), maximum of 2 of the top 5 stations
* Joint bargaining prohibited, must always be done separately with cable/satellite providers

New M&A: Bob Prather's Heartland Media is buying Chambers Communications's Oregon stations (KEZI Eugene, KDRV Medford + KDKF Klamath Falls) for $30 million. Chambers cites issues with network economies of scale and increased costs to ABC.
They referred to WKTV as WTVK in the article. I have to laugh at that one (that was WVLT's former calls when it was on channel 26)

This could be the end for KSNV. Sinclair will most likely buy it and shut it down, moving NBC to KVMY.
