    New M&A This Morning!!!

Hoak is selling KAUZ to a new entity KAUZ Media, Inc., owned by Lawton, OK lawyer, Bill W. Burgess, Jr.

I had a feeling that Drewry was going to form something to keep that SSA alive. At least they got someone local to buy it.

Wasn't Gray supposed to be getting KAUZ before this?

  2. KGWN and KCWY have new Gray websites. KGNS still does not. I feel that KGNS is going to rebrand as soon as the ABC subchannel launches; at that point, a new site will come out.

EDIT: I could be right about KGNS. Look under "Raw Registrar Data".

Never in a million years did I think this would happen, but:

Now, remember, KVRR did not have a website until 2011. And 50 cents bets that they are still using the 1998 Fox Affiliate Theme music.

Their sister KDLT has also gone HD.

    E. W. Scripps Company is now in talks with Granite Broadcasting about the possibility of buying two Granite broadcasting stations. We don't know which stations Scripps is buying, but

I have a hunch it would be WKBW/Buffalo, and the second Granite TV Station; we'll have to figure that out.

Almost certain in my mind that it's WMYD.

Wait a minute. Why does installing a new set totally prevent them from airing a newscast?

Their studios must be small. REALLY small. That's the only reason I can think of...

    New M&A Tonight!!!

It appears that bankrupt Roberts Broadcasting is selling its Columbia, SC station, WZRB to Tri-States Christian Television (through their licensee name Radiant Life Ministries, Inc.) for $2M. Upon closing of the sale, the station will drop its CW network and its syndicated programming.

This is the second time where Roberts have sold its station to a religious broadcaster. Last October, they'd sold its Jackson CW affiliate, WRBJ to TBN, which that one was finalized on January 17 of this year.

At first, I strongly thought that Sinclair would get it, as I said over a year ago:

So I'm thinking either WACH or WKTC could be possible contenders for the affiliation. WACH would probably have to get equipment to operate an HD subchannel for the CW stream. WKTC could move its MyNet lineup to late at night, or do the same thing and have a subchannel. But WKTC already have Telemundo, Antenna TV & Retro TV on their subs. It would be a picture quality roadkill if they add another subchannel. But who knows, Gannett could shock us again, and add the network on WLTX's sub (like they did with WMAZ), or Bahakel could do the same on WOLO (remember what their sister station to the north of them is now affiliated with). It would be interesting to see how this goes.

Now this starts an interesting discussion about WRBU in St. Louis. If WRBU were sold to one of these Christian broadcasters and drops MyTV programming, where does it go? My only guess would be KNLC since that market would be too big to have the network on a subchannel. I understand that KNLC is a religious station, but there are plenty of stations that would be like KNLC with MNTV, namely WBNX in Cleveland and KSBI in OKC.

I bet you WBXX in Knoxville is next....either Gray gets them through Excalibur to pair with WVLT...or Media General gets them to pair with WATE....either way, Lockwood's days are numbered!

Don't forget about KTEN in the Sherman, TX market. That station seems to have Nexstar written all over it to me.

Another acquisition target that Nexstar may want: Rockfleet. Think about it. WJFW would fit in nicely with WFRV, WJMN and soon WLAX/WEUX, and WVII isn't too far away from the WVNY/WFFF duo.

    NEW M&A Tonight!!!!

    And it's not good news.

From the paperwork tonight, Access.1 Communications is selling WMGM in Wildwood, NJ to LocusPoint Networks for $6M.

LocusPoint Networks is one of a few media companies (Including OTA Broadcasting & NRJ TV) who's been gobbling up stations (mostly low-rated stations, including LP stations) so they can resell them for the upcoming incentive spectrun auction next year.

Well, there goes Jersey's last decent news station, let alone their only major network affiliate.

  8.

Posted earlier, but I'll post it here too.

Nexstar is acquiring stations owned by Grant Communications for $87.5M.

Fox station KLJB will be assigned to Mission, and Nexstar will operate it under a LMA. Nexstar will own KGCW outright and the pending sale of three Citadel stations, including WHBF. So WHBF, KLJB & KGCW will be controlled by Nexstar in the Quads.

With WHBF being an underdog, I believe Nexstar will make a much needed infrastructure into WHBF, and to have Fox station KLJB, this will be the first time that all of the Big-3 stations in town have produced its 9pm newscast at some point in time. Of course the first one who produced their newscast was local outsourced news firm Independent News Network. Then later WQAD, and right now KWQC. Now with this ownership change, they can easily end that agreement, once the deal closes.

As for the other three markets, WLAX/WEUX is north of the Quads, and it goes kind of well with WFRV in Green Bay, and WZDX in Huntsville probably boost its Alabama presents with WDHN in Dothan (although Nexstar should pursue acquiring the full Calkins stations, including WAAY), Grant's flagship stations would be the first for Nexstar in that part of that region. It probably makes me thing that Nexstar could pursue in acquiring MG's WSLS, or MG could use its shell card to acquire WFXR in the future. With WLAX/WEUX, it makes me think that they're probably want to acquire the Morgan Murphy stations in Wisconsin, since they own WKBT, and it's flagship WISC in Madison.

So although the Roanoke properties gives them another "island", the other properties shows how I love Nexstar's wise decision and have a strategic way to acquiring stations that makes the most sense. And for that I commend Perry Sook and the folks at Nexstar.

So I think everybody should look at the Quad Cities market, because by the Spring, if not earlier, it would be the first time that all of the commercial TV stations in that market will have new owners (KWQC - Media General & WQAD - Tribune, along with WHBF/KLJB/KGCW - Nexstar).

Good because WHBF, along with the other Citadel stations that Nexstar is acquiring, need a MAJOR refresh. I could even see WOI completely relaunch, WPTY-to-WATN style.

  9.

Wow that is quite a surprise! Those stations dominate the market, correct?

Yep. KNBN is the only other news operation in Rapid Falls, because the CBS affiliate is a KELO satellite.

  10.

John Seabers, WOAI general manager, said: “We are saddened to lose such a quality professional as Elsa. ... Sinclair Broadcast Group believes family comes first, and we feel Elsa is doing the right thing for her family.”

    Interesting.
