Does this not sound like they are launching an in-house news department? Which if so, is something I've been predicting since the day the ink dried on the transfer from Sinclair. This wording "from near the ground up" makes it seem like the two WDKY-only anchors (Marvin Bartlett and Kristen Pflum), who are contracted to Nexstar, would go to this possible in-house effort, severing the ties with WKYT.

Makes me wonder where WDKY would go to do its news. The current office is too small to house a news department (and it's just that, sales and marketing offices; master control had been out of WSYX in Columbus and is now coming from one of the Nexstar hubs, probably Indianapolis). New building?

    So many questions....

Now looks like an Assistant News Director job.

How often do you get the chance to build a local TV newsroom?

If a full power station wants an allotment that LP is in, they can basically get it. Because low power & translator stations don't get protection for their allotments (Class A Low Powers do, however). For instance, WYES has petitioned to move to RF 28. That means that LP that's now occupied in that allotment (Daystar's KNLD-LD) has to be displaced & have to find a new channel of their own.

.......And almost two weeks later, it has already advanced to NPRM.

    Three new R&Os.

Waiting to see if Gray moves WYMT off channel 12, but they have a huge coverage on that channel.

    Some that come to mind:

VDO - They did the original 2000 WFLA package that was later adapted to the Media General stations before the Giant Octopus one they originated for HD.  They also did the 1999 "News Center" package for WSYX and WTTE.

Later they did some of the former Emmis stations including the 2003 packages for WVUE and WALA.

Who did the Media General graphics or as I called it the cloud look (Counterpoint era) graphics for WTVQ/WJHL/WSLS/WNCT/WCBD/KALB in the mid-late 90's?

Ha, I just saw this and put in the speculation chat.

Yeah to me, this makes me think this is just the start of ending the relationship with WKYT and nothing against WKYT, just wanting to go out on their own.   Not sure when that ends.

If we start to see anchors/meteorologist job postings for WDKY, then here is our sign.

It takes money to implement a new look.  Even though the graphics are essentially designed at the hub, they will still need to be implemented locally.  Custom animations will need to be created for the station.  Signage for vehicles and perhaps on the building itself will need to be changed.  Station promotions using the new designs.  It all comes down to money and whether or not it's important enough to spread the corporate brand into the local market at this time.  I have some confidence it will happen before this year is out but probably not until Q3.  There still is no mandate from corporate though.  I suspect something will come down by mid summer.

I am fine how with how it looks now. Looks great and I am okay with the music too with it. I've gotten used to it.  Shocked they didn't use the NBC cuts though.

There's an amendment in one of the Sinclair channel change PRMs.

WCYB wanted to move from VHF-low 5 to UHF 30. They now proposed to move to RF 35 instead.

I've always heard low VHF band signal is supposed to "bend" over these mountains? Figured that is why they stayed on channel 5 all these years.

Going from a 90 mile contour 78.9 mile contour.

With a lot of the Gray stations moving to from VHF to UHF like listed above, waiting on WYMT to get off channel 12, but at least it's not low VHF.

I don't understand why there's such a hunger here to knock down facilities that are "old." NBC shows off 30 Rock like a prized heirloom, but everybody else's old digs? Gotta go!

Guessing a lot of the staff isn’t working from home either?
