I heard that same rumor. I talked with a buddy who worked at Speed, now FS1, and he said it was nothing more than a rumor. Internally there were never any discussions about it. He said Fox had a preference to keep local and national under separate roofs for redundancy purposes.  He pointed to how WNWY has stayed on the Upper East Side while cable cousin FNC is in Midtown. Plus they had, at the time, maxed out their studio space on Harris Blvd. So there wouldn't have been floor space for a local round-the-clock news operation. That all made sense to me. What didn't make sense is why on earth they chose to stay put instead of building out space elsewhere. Heck, WCCB's studios seem like vast Hollywood Studio Lot compared to WJZY. But ultimately the management team responsible for launching the station decided to invest resources elsewhere. Then once they stumbled out of the gate, Fox wasn't going to give them any more money until ratings - and thus revenue - picked up.

It was reported in The Charlotte Observer. That’s how I knew about it.

Isn't ironic that Fox has expanded its FS1 facility across Charlotte?

If they were going to move into that building, they would have eight years ago.

Jason Harper posted a behind the scenes walk through on Twitter. Their space is beyond small as that building was not constructed with a news producing station in mind but they are making the best of it. Personally, I think their newsroom set up is the best their on-air look has been since the station became a FOX affiliate.

When Fox first bought the station, the rumor was that they were going to go to the Speed Channel studios on Harris Boulevard but that never came to be.

i thought they syndicated it to other Nexstar Fox Station, it would've gave Nexstar FOX stations big and small a good look make feel them feel in the big leagues. I thought KTVI the first non-FOX O&O station owned by Nexstar as one of Nexstars FOX O&O would get it then Indianapolis but they all ended up adopting the Nexstar FOX graphics package. I did in-vision them getting the Nexstar FOX Graphics Package, after getting purchased didn't think it take this long. They need a new set badly I thing they only built it for good day and other newscasts couldn't suit the set weird positions for evening newscasts. Then the refresh wasn't great either it just got up for the evening newscasts. And of course the dancing area for Nick Kosir, who should go to LA like Bill Melugin is now.  They need a newscast serious set that fit all newscasts.

If they hadn’t got the new Fox O&O graphics last January right before the sale went through, they likely would’ve got the Nexstar graphics about the time they got the website.

A short tenure as apparently Morgan Norwood was released after accidentally using the F-word on the air. They had moved longtime morning host Page Fehling to the new noon and 4pm newscasts, and Norwood was the replacement on the morning show. She was a recent hire from ABC O&O WTVD in Raleigh/Durham. Not sure why Nexstar wanted to risk changing an established talent mix in the morning, where Page Fehling and Jason Harper had good chemistry, and they released former WBTV anchor Brigida Mack and veteran traffic reporter Chuck Roads as strong support personalities. Not sure the logic here, but Ann Wyatt Little is a nice addition going forward. And apparently Nexstar may be building a new set for WJZY, as they are currently broadcasting from the newsroom rather than the studio. Ann Wyatt Little had tweeted that they were under renovation. But the current set with the scenic skyline backdrop was relatively new, as built by former owner FOX just a few years ago.

Yeah Morgan’s F bomb was brought up in the Nexstar thread. I posted about the potential new set in the graphics section of the Discord server. And I suspect that the Nexstar Fox graphics package might be coming with that new set.

I think Page likes being able to spend more time with her family. Now she can take her kids to school. She now has a schedule better suited for a married woman with children. But you’re right. Ann will do a good job though.

But why do they need TWO meteorologists at noon and 4? That’s the head scratcher to me.

WOW. So that explains why Ann Wyatt-Little has been on there. I wonder if she will be her permanent replacement or if she is just filling in until they get Morgan’s replacement. I also didn’t get around to mentioning that they also let Chuck Roads go at the first of the year. No more traffic reports. He is now at 730 The Game.

Morgan’s Twitter is now private and she has removed Fox 46 from her bio. She has not released a statement.

Ann is now on Good Day Charlotte permanently https://www.instagram.com/p/CLSvim3p9ew/?igshid=jna3wxkbnw7p

I don't want the FCC to force the Cox stations to take an unfair deal. What needs to happen is the FCC and the NAB needs to allow Directv, Dish, Xfinity, Spectrum and others to pipe in a nearby station from a market next to the one where the station is dropped. So, in Pittsburgh's case. You have the option to choose WTOV, WJAC, WFMJ, or WBOY as an alternative till COX and Directv agree on a deal. In 2010, Directv replaced most NBC Hearst stations with Nexstar's WBRE for example.

I think the main alternates should be the NYC locals (East Coast [most are O&Os of said network]) and LA Locals (West Coast).

For those worried this wont work, Here is why it will. In most cases it would be the market next to theirs which would be semi local. All of the stations mentioned above do carry News, weather and Sports from certain places in the Pittsburgh market already  so it would be an extension of that. It doesn't work in some areas but in most it would work fine. I do see some viewers going to other stations but most are watching for the network programming anyway. Not news.

If they piped in WLOS here, we’d temporarily have two chances to see Wheel or Jeopardy here.

Sinclair is "sort of" bringing news to it's remaining stations via Stirr...

Even St. Louis got it's own.

Have KDNL and WTWC picked up The National Desk, to air as a "morning newscast" before GMA or Today?

    They haven't.

It does air on the "city channel" on Stirr which I think is why they launched those channels. Because outside of The National Desk, there are no local news programs on those channels.

It does air on WXLV from 6-7am before Good Morning America. The second two hours moves over to sister station WMYV.

I saw that, but there's no update on FOX 46's side of things which it's pretty odd.

WJZY has now confirmed that Judge Mathis and People’s Court each move up an hour February 1 which means that the newscasts will start then.

What are the odds of WJZY making any inroads in those time slots?

Not great. It has to compete with all three stations in the first half hour at noon, and with WSOC at 12:30.

At 4 it might have an outside chance to pass WCNC but not WBTV.

  12. Page Fehling has now left Good Day Charlotte and the noon and 4pm newscasts will be premiering in February. https://instagram.com/stories/pagefehling/2487337140659482739?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&igshid=1iwuclsh2oi0t

Sinclair did the damage on WLFL by balking at FOX's demands to start a newscast, and by the time they agreed to it, WRAZ had been granted FOX, and WLFL had to settle for the WB.

WRDC was already damaged goods since it was ruined by Brissette when they killed off WPTF and drove the station even further by killing off their news operation.  Adding more insult to injury, when Sinclair got both stations, they set up in Channel 28's studios and WLFL's studios became home to WNCN, who through Outlet, wrestled away NBC because of Channel 28's disasterous tenure as an NBC affiliate at the time.

At one time NBC owned WNCN.

Raleigh deserves another news department then Greensboro they're just to small!!!

Yeah I keep thinking it will be WRAZ if they ever split off from WRAL. It would’ve been WLFL but Capitol sacrificed WJZY/WMYT in 2013 to keep Fox on WRAZ and a few other cities.

  15. I have several WJZY updates that I have been meaning to catch you up on...first of all, the big news,  they are launching a noon and 4pm newscast “in a couple weeks” which Paige Fehling will be a part of...saw it in the comments...https://www.instagram.com/tv/CJ5y5KvJNmm/?igshid=1xblzpryufgb1

Also Brigida Mack left the station last week...

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CJpBSNLDBKb/?igshid=kqpxbuy0jpo7

As did the reporter who was reporting live from Taylorsville as the bridge collapsed (Amber Roberts) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJfF5RyhZ-6/?igshid=w6nvx20tdby1

They did hire Morgan Norwood away from WTVD. Her first day was December 16.

Paige said they will be hiring someone else for Good Day. She also said in a comment that a Morgan will be with her on the new newscasts but I don’t know if she meant Morgan Frances or Morgan Norwood. It is also not known how long the newscasts will last. The 4pm news will almost certainly last an hour...but the noon news could only be 30 minutes. This is probably why they swapped 25 Words or Less and Dr. Oz back in the Fall.

    From today's FTVLIVE...

I could see the WDVM move-in, but would it affect retransmission consent with WDCW?  Could the same owner opt for must-carry for one station and retransmission consent for the other?

I highly doubt Meredith would part with WGCL, yet alone sell out entirely to Nexstar (or Mission).  That would be a Sinclair-level shell game as there are many markets where Nexstar and Meredith compete, and the FCC would be amiss to allow some triopolies (along with the Sinclair/Deerfield cluster-f$#% in Mobile/Pensacola.)  Atlanta may be a place to buy a stick and start anew.  Maybe Meredith would be willing to sell WPCH?  The irony in that is that the former W(TBS) and WGN (America) could all be under the same owner.

If Meredith sold all to Nexstar/Mission there would be a conflict in GSA and WHNS would have to be divested...I think there are other conflicts as well...

  17. Apparently Capitol Broadcasting and Dish Network are now in a dispute. Dish subscribers in Raleigh/Durham have now lost WRAL AND WRAZ right after they just got WNCN back just over a week ago. Now they’ll need an antenna for Fox AND NBC football if they don’t come to an agreement by Sunday. 🤦🏼‍♂️
