  1. Some interesting musings from the TV world: Leslie Draffin has left NBC affiliate KTAL and will be joining KOKH as their new morning co-anchor. You'll recall KOKH has been without a morning co-anchor since Wendy Suares was promoted to main anchor. KTBS got those tired WISH GO graphics, but a red and white variation of them: Judy Waggoner is now main co-anchor with Heather Williams at KTVE in Monroe, LA. Rudy Williams the previous anchor left. Carly Flynn Morgan is leaving Fox61 in Chatanooga to become the new morning anchor at KTBS in Shreveport. She replaces Chrissi Coile who is leaving to "spend more time with the family". Milwaukee's WDJT has hired Sachelle Saunders to be the new weekend co-anchor and GA reporter. She comes from WTVO in Rockford where she was the morning co-anchor. Jacqueline Crea joins KHOU as a general assignments reporter from KTSM, where she was an MMJ. WSVN lost their foreclosure lawsuit they filed against property developer Scott Greenwald, and his company Isle of Dreams LLC, for the piece of land right next door that housed former sister radio station WIOD. They are on the same parcel of land which is mostly a parking lot. WSVN staffers had been using that lot but can no longer. They now have to park across the street as there are only 90 parking spots on WSVN's land. WSVN is only allowing females and on-air talent to park on premises. Since the entrance to WSVN is on his land, they evicted the security guard and are going to demolish the guardhouse. Remember that anchor who tweeted to WPEC anchor John Discepolo: "Someone is hiding in your house waiting to kill you … find out where … tonight at 11." in response to a tease the anchor tweeted out. Discepolo decided to file charges. Well those have been dropped fortunately. Jenna Kooi who anchors the 7 and 11pm newscasts at WRTV has decided to call it quits, not returning after being on maternity leave. No replacement has been named yet. And finally (FTVLIVE): WCPO in Cincinnati ran this story on their newscast a week ago: [yt]hmvQ8XMe0Pg[/yt] What the station did not point out in the story was that their Reporter Kendall Herold was involved in the crash and was arrested for DUI. This week, WCPO finally got around to posting the story of her arrest on the station's website. Supposedly, they only posted it after Newsblues contacted the station seeking comment. The station wrote: WCPO Reporter Kendall Herold has been arrested for DUI. The arrest occurred Wednesday night in Covington. According to police her alcohol level was .08. Kendall Herold was released from jail Thursday morning. Since her arrest, viewers have been posting messages of encouragement across social media ( :bang: :bang: :bang: ): Herold has reached out to viewers on social media as well. The station is refusing to comment more on her arrest or on her future at WCPO. Kendall must be real popular there or something to still have a job. You can accidentally drop the f-bomb on TV and lose your job, but if you drive drunk and get into a wreck you still have one? A quick check of their site shows that her bio is still up. This is what I (myself, not the website I got this from) think about WCPO and their credibility:
  2. I came across this today: Brad Mefferd from Buckeye Cable and Barry Faber from Sinclair talked with Toledo radio station WSPD recently about the retrans situation going on with WNWO right now. http://www.wspd.com/media/podcast-scott-sands-scottsands/1216-brad-mefferd-of-buckeye-cablesystem-24097241/ LOL at some of the things Faber says, including bringing up the Disney Channel and saying he doesn't know what Mefferd meant when he called WNWO "lowly rated" (which they are). And Buckeye is taking out ads like this one in co-owned newspaper The Blade: They even scrubbed all references to WNWO from their channel guide. (and this should've been in the Sinclair thread but I think it's OK here too).
  3. Must be nice. Except for ME-TV on KSAT 12.2 all the digital subchannels here suck. WOAI has LiveWell, KENS has Estrella TV on DT2 and their doppler radar feed on DT3. KPXL has three home shopping channels (ShopTV, QVC and HSN) in addition to ion Life and Qubo. KABB has ZUUS Country and KMYS has MundoFox. All are horrible uses of subchannels. Me-TV, Antenna TV, Movies!, This TV are good subchannels. Hell even Bounce is better than all the subchannels we get here. I was happy when KSAT dumped LATV and WOAI dumped Mexicanal but WOAI replaced it with crap while KSAT put quality programming in its place. Please Sinclair or Gannett or anybody, bring Antenna TV to S.A.
  4. prediction: Walter and Summer Knowles will become the new morning team and when Rhiannon Ally returns from maternity leave they will give her the main spot with Rick Folbaum.
  5. Didn't they use panhandleparade.com at one point?
  6. They just promoted the assistant ND last month.
  7. So it sounds like Meredith leaves it up to the individual stations on what to do with subchannels and KPHO's GM just doesn't want to dump the weather channel.
  8. It's market 203, cut them some slack. Just like the stories in that newscast (a IHOP manager getting fired for cussing out customers) would not make a top-100 market newscast.
  9. At least Gray is far more honest about Excalibur than Sinclair is about their shells.
  10. oh okay, I guess it makes sense now
  11. No I didn't. Two women at 6pm? What's wrong with just having Dennis and Karen (or Natalie) do the 5, 6, and 10? Who does Natalie replace? I can't recall who left. Oh and Angela Hill should not have retired. She obviously didn't enjoy retirement because now she's with WWL radio.
  12. I'm surprised that has not been done already because master control for those stations is done out of KTVA now. If you're familiar with FTVLive, he has a lot of hate towards their previous GM Bill Ransom, so I understand the meaning of the headline. Not really since KTVF is owned by a third party. I could see GCI making a play for them and dramtically improving the quality of the product coming from those stations.
  13. Seattle Times, please kindly shut up and just deliver the news...
  14. This is why WKMG is last place in almost all time slots, because there's no stability there. Their main male anchors just keep coming and going. As you just start getting used to one he leaves.
  15. So, I was perusing the web earlier and went to Alvin Williams hard to read Examiner blog. I came across this: I live streamed their newscast the other day and did not see Early, just Kelly Jones and Deitra Tate. So did they do away with this whole social media reporter thing? I hope so. What does Jordan do now? Just another GA reporter? Or if she is still doing this social media thing, does she pretape her reports now? They also have two other social media reporters: Taren Reed and I came across another one, Abby Gresham. Do they really need three social media reporters? Either or, glad they finally came to their senses and took her off the desk. It made no sense to have a social media reporter at the desk with the other three anchors.
  16. WSYR Turnover WSYR in Syracuse is having quite a bit of staff turnover as of late. First reporter Leigh Issacson left for Fox8 New Orleans back in July after her contract expired. Then weatherman Chris Brandolino is leaving to work in New Zealand. Tanja Babich is going to work at a station in the Chicago area. It was reported that Caroline Gable their traffic reporter, is not returning from maternity leave because she enjoys her new role as a mother so much. Finally weekend weathercaster Julia Weiden is leaving to go to a station in the southeast. They finally filled Issacson's position with Rachel Polansky from sister station WUTR. They promoted Stacy-Lyn Honda to take over for Babich when she leaves the station to work in Chicago. Jim Teske who is currently the noon meteorologist (what a waste of money to have a weather guy only for the noon news) will add The Morning News to his duties as well. They recently announced former chief met Dave Eichorn is returning to the station but they haven't found a slot for him yet (he will not be chief again, as Dave Longley will keep those duties). My prediction is he will take the weekend evening duties and they will find a new meteorologist to take weekend morning news, or just cancel the weekend morning news because Nexstar hates weekend morning news. Or they can just go with three meteorologist from now on, but that is doubtful as WSTM has four and the #1 station would obviously want to have four. Now they have to replace Weiden, Gable, Honda. So, hopefully they will back at full staff levels soon. I wonder if Nexstar has anything to do with all these people leaving but I highly doubt it. source is cnyradio.com, you can find all of the articles there (too many for me to link) You may be on to something. WEWS is down a meteorologist after Christine Ferriera quit. They have a freelancer filling in Saturday mornings but I would think they want to have their own in-house meteorologist again (Trent Magill got pushed to weekday mornings and I would assume he's staying there). Now that I'm making the connection, I wonder if Juila Weiden is going to take a position at WCCB, since the article said she was going to a station in the southeast. I doubt it but it's a interesting conclusion if that does happen.
  17. Considering the crap they have now, this is an improvement...
  18. You can't get much worse than Time Warner. I hope Comcast buys them.
  19. I'm not surprised this is happening now as much as I'm surprised that this didn't happen sooner.
  20. Sorry, can't see it happening in Tyler. Maybe Baton Rogue. I know that in Shreveport and in Midland/Odessa, Nexstar stations there will probably produce primetime newscasts but that's all I see happening. Tyler could benefit from it though. For those not aware of KETK's news, the content and style is almost like Fox News-local with a very evident conservative bias on their political and government stories. Their ND Neal Barton (who also doubles as their main anchor, whether that will change under Nexstar is unknown) does commentary after every weeknight 5PM newscast called "Point of View with Neal Barton" which are very conservative in tone. And this station used to have a segment called "Talk Back" on their morning news where they partnered with a local radio station and they had this host Garth Maier read comments on a pre-determined topic (which were also politically conservative in tone) until they got in hot water and did away with their segment. I hope this crap ends with Nexstar ownership. They can keep Barton as main anchor for all I care but please get a REAL ND not out to pass a political agenda, or heck switch Barton to weather since he is also a meteorologist. He can stick to weather since weather is a non-political subject. Their current weather guy is . KETK makes Sinclair's national reports look neutral and balanced in comparison.
  21. They will probably keep everything status quo. Comcorp and Nexstar operate similarly.
  22. Yes, Fox used to be on K47DF, now an indie station. I could actually see Entravision snapping up Fox like they have in the Valley and in Laredo. It wasn't on London's end, the Caller-Times reported: This is correct. Their OTA signal is very weak, and I only managed to get caps of them overnight (around 2-3AM). They don't do HD outside of Fox as their plant isn't HD, so the picture quality is bad, really bad. It's almost like low-res 480i. Imagine security camera quality, that's what KUQI's picture looks like. Here's the video as promised. Note that they never did a legal ID within that hour this was the closest thing they had: [yt]bs0GaF7KUhw[/yt]
  23. Good, I hope somebody decent like Sinclair buys them. I have video of them from August, let me see if I can get it up so you can see how bad this station is.
  24. Oh thank god. Gray will definitely pour some much needed funds into KGNS, hopefully including HD newscasts and more staff.
