Everything Sinclair's done since the late 90's has been a disaster of some sort; we really need to form an angry mob and ransack their HQ already. Who's with me?!

    Nobody.

All I'm saying is that we should all assemble in person and take over the company, so we can dismantle the monopoly machine they've got going, and help restore dignity to the industry; we'll embarrass the FCC while doing it, given how they've just sat on their butts and are content to let Sinclair take over everything. And besides, we're trying to do something good for the industry, and we are perfectly mentally healthy, as compared to the WMAR guy, who didn't seem to have any motivation.

I'm so glad you're not in a Sinclair market, so you don't have standing to complain about them. By no means are they a quality broadcaster, but don't hate on them just because they're the biggest.

And the FCC is not content with letting Sinclair take over everything, Sinclair still has many pending apps.

It finally happened. KLAS in Las Vegas has been sold. But, the surprise buyer is Nexstar. I expect things to remain status quo at the station (except, of course, for its domain name).

This will compliment the southwestern cluster they're building very well.

That's surprising. I expect Nexstar to cheapen the station (for instance, ditch their news chopper. Nexstar hates choppers) and plaster the word "local" all over the place.

I submitted those dates, which come from knowing staffers, possession of letterhead, and personal memory. I believe someone else submitted the start date of 1999 for Advantage, and I remember there was nothing between PYCCO and Advantage. They kept PYCCO for a lot longer than one might expect, but I am not 100% certain on 1999 - it could have been 1998.

April 1991 was the switch from an '80s set, that '70s TV set logo and "Move Closer To Your World" to "People You Can Count On." They kept PYCCO until they did a long overdue update of their set and graphics in the late '90s. The new logo included the text "People You Can Count On" even though they'd dumped the theme. Honestly, I would love to find proof and confirm the dates.

Holy crap, they really rode MCTYW into the early 90's? Damn... (yes I know about WPVI and WKBW but I kind of consider them in a different class)

It might be 1998 because they had their current "23" by then. And they rode that slogan well into the mid-2000's. You would probably know better than me but I think they ditched the slogan the same time they went HD (for "The Next Generation of News").

WIFR has always seemed to have an outdated feel to them. They never got the stock Gray set. Their current set

. It's kinda hard to watch their newscast honestly because the set so obviously wasn't designed for HD which severely limits the shots they can do...

I get the sense that Quincy really poured long-needed money into WREX. The station's image right before the switch seemed really dated and not terribly well-made, particularly their set. The owner was Marty Pompadur, who owned nine stations and sold them all to different owners (other holdings: WTWO, WRBL, KATC, KQTV)

As to what was said, here is a quote from an article mentioning the sale:

ABC characterized the move as "a business decision on our part". Sounds a bit more like a network homogenization deal for Young—extremely common in the period, though I wouldn't doubt some spite played into it.

For your trouble, an excellent WABC story promo from 1987 (the channel has a few more in this style):

Also, I've made a connection that WIFR and KDLH were indeed sisters under Benedek. KHQA was also a Benedek station and used the The Coast PYCCO theme. (A similar connection exists for KKTV and WOWT, which used the same midday news theme in the early 90s).

QNI must have made up with ABC by 2001 when they bought the Shockley group. Also, where's the 1991-1999 dates for WIFR using the PYCCO theme coming from? I highly doubt they rode that theme well into the 1990's....

WTVJ Joe Rose to retire in December:

Great sports anchor and a unique personality. I would also say considering he has worked as the morning host on 560 WQAM and is a commentator on Dolphins broadcasts, best time to slow down.

I bet CBS had a say in this. Remember they're buying WQAM and they also own WFOR. They probably don't want him working on their competitor and likely told him to choose between TV and radio.

It wouldn't surprise me if they addressed Adam Kuperstein soon enough as well.

Okay, y'all. Remember that New Age deal from last September 2013? As of Halloween, it appears that the applications involved in the deal were DISMISSED.

So that basically means Sinclair bailed out of this deal right? WRONG.

They stated this, as they released their Q3 earnings report last week:

So while (technically) the deal is dead, New Age keeps the papers, and Sinclair is now running the show.

I have a feeling Nexstar will do this with Comcorp because that deal is moving like molasses...

It wouldn't be that far-fetched for KIII to launch a subchannel with the Fox affiliation (considering it is a legacy London station).

IIRC correctly KIII has four subchannels already. ABC, Me-TV, MundoFox and Cozi.

The way the article was written makes me think NBC is running KVDA again.

KVDA and the Fresno station are no longer listed on ZGS's site so I think you are right. However they are still using Hola Cuidad as their website so it must've been very recent.

Looks as if Nexstar is about to roll our a new website design. Was offered to take a survey on the new look. I have to say it is a major step up from their current design. I kinda like it. Reminds me a lot of Scripps current website look.

Yeah there's three potential designs they're looking at. If you scroll up we talked about KTVX offering similar survey.
  10.

Those two were the only logos that I have (masters of) that have a larger vertical logo in addition to a horizontal logo. But ideally that is how I would like to see the lower thirds layer out.

They don't work now, they won't work that way either. I want them to update it so that way the graphics do not get chopped off on my screen but that won't happen. The mentality of these designers and most of the people here is watch it in HD or watch it with black bars hogging up screen space. The reality is the majority of viewers have ol' reliable tube TVs and I want the entire screen filled without information getting chopped off. Even Sinclair's new package is designed a lot better than Gannett's. It'll be interesting to see how the stations here will adopt them when they do.

As for Presto, I don't think any of us have been informed on that either.

It wouldn't surprise me if they change the web address away from myfoxzone.com. First off they're leasing the domain from Fox. Second I never understood why that's their web address to begin with. Yes I know that's what they began using under Bayou City but it really needed to go when they went to news.

I know they need something generic to accommodate the two stations technically in two DMAs. So let's see what Gannett cooks up for them...

Also I saw Molly Garrity transferred from KREM to KIDY? So, is she replacing Jenna Rogers or something? I think Rogers has been gone for months. Also I don't get why you would move from a decent sized market like Spokane to San Angelo, but to each their own, right?

Lone Star Stations (this is what the ex London stations are referred to)

yay out of state companies who want to continue to contribute to the various stereotypes of Texas... The reality is outside of the license plates and government documents nobody uses the motto around here...

Okay here's the quick mock up that I had in mind for a tiny change in the Gannett Graphics package. The first image will be used when they are live on scene or have an exclusive story. The second image will be used when they are live in the studio and do not need to include a live bug so the logo will change to the bigger version. After the anchor's introductions are done and are not needed on screen that row will merge the two columns to for supplementary information as level 2.

I know you're a fanboy of WBAL but you couldn't have found a Gannett station's logo to use?

This is one of the better openings. If only WOAI or KEYE can get this opening (including the same voiceover)

WOAI will likely take it in December when they move to the KABB facility. WOAI master control is now coming out of KABB (I can tell because the in-program bug has shrunk drastically like KABB's and KMYS' are) so the transition seems to be moving along nicely.

    For what reasons?

    (Misremembered story redacted)

The WHD calls lasted until at least the late 2000s on WRC's front sign facing Nebraska Ave NW.

According to Street View it was changed sometime between May and October 2011. GE must have been cheap...

To bring this back on topic, it looks like WTSP redesigned their site to look more like USA Today (also their slogan reeks small market).

  14. Sounds like cheap production music. Well, it's better than the stuff their in-house guy came up with. (I honestly think he also did the 2012 theme which sounds like a refined version of the 2011 theme). These moves probably came from Gray corporate since the station management is the same. Also Bob Tracey isn't the best VO but is a huge improvement over Jason Davis who sounds like a guy they found off the street and handed him the copy and told him, "read this".
