  1. New promo: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152485952419091

I think it's a little cheesy, but it's pretty cool nonetheless.

I have to say, probably one of the most well-put together promos from any news channel (cable, network, local) that I have seen in a long time. The music: perfect. The camera angles: on point. And the premise is also genius. This is a MUCH better promo than the "come get it bae" one that First at Four did a month or so ago

  2. Just a quick question.. Could someone compare Fios 1 to News12.. Just so I know before I switch?

Fios1 is certainly not as bad as it used to be, but it just isn't as extensive as News12. It provides everything you need to know, but definitely not at the level of News12.

  3. They can demote him to a reporter/fill-in anchor. I tried several times to watch the 4 with David anchoring but can't watch him idk what is. I'm sure he's a nice guy and all but idk just watch an entire show with him anchoring. As for the idea I had for Rob anchoring the 4 that was if David left or got demoted.

They won't do that... The only time in recent memory a WABC anchor was removed was Steve Bartelstein... The ratings for First at Four continuously improve every sweeps, so they wouldn't fix something that isn't broken...

  4. Hmmm.... that should be...interesting. That's all I'm going to say.

ABC has had Apple exclusives before... It may or may not be due to the fact that Steve Jobs was the largest shareholder in The Walt Disney Company and the two companies have been somewhat close at times...

  5. That newsroom looked like it hasn't been touched at all since probably the late 1990s. What renovations they'd done since 2005?

    Nevertheless, it's about time.

I could only find footage going back that far ... But you're right - it does look 90's-esque

  6. I've seen them start late many times due to special reports and they've never extended the newscast but I trust you.

They have done this plenty of times before... Whenever the newscast starts past 12:15, they will push millionaire back to get everything in.

Edit: the most recent time they did something similar was on August 13, when WABC locally broke in before the noon newscast to carry a storm press conference in Suffolk County after the record flooding, and that didn't end until like 12:20. WCBS and WNBC somehow managed to wrap up the noon news in 10 mins, but WABC extended until 12:45

  7. This evening, studio 3B received a slight studio update, which included what looks to be a repositioning of the desk and some overall sharpening up of the features of the set. One of the most significant changes is the fact that large monitors behind Williams now serve as the OTS graphics for most segments. 8. I'm not going to dismiss the notion that they tweaked the theme. I compared a recent open from WNDS with last night's WNT, and it sounds to me like they beefed it up a little. Whether it was a little bass boost or some more orchestration, it felt a little more substantial than before.

There was also a completely different music theme used to go to one of the commercial breaks if I remember correctly .. May have been the first commercial block?

  9. The old "anchoring from the scene" gimmick is something that has been picked up by CBS and NBC, but not by ABC so much lately... And I think David wants to "un-gimmick" it and turn it into a real experience for the viewer rather than just being able to claim he's reporting from the scene of an event for ratings... Like Brian Williams anchored NN from ferguson a couple weeks ago- there was no real value for the viewers... He was standing in a parking lot...

  10. If he's always out of the the studio Repoting and bringing WNTDM from the field, Who would be the main Anchor at the Desk? Diane again maybe?, George, someone who works close and well with David? Vargas is out since she's back at Rehab.

It looked like the same opening they've always had to me Even the WNTDM clips on here looked the normal length, not longer. I'm surprised ABC used the WNTDM Package tonight since everyone's been saying tomorrow. I figured that ABC just use the WNT Package from last Thurs. and Fri for tonight.

    Good to know ! Thanks!

I believe he wants to anchor on-location

  11. I don't think I've ever seen this site so excited about an anchor change.

I think it's because there's such a high expectation for change... This thread was basically a "hate on Diane Sawyer" thread before the anchor change was announced, and it really got people excited that there's going to be someone new, that everyone knows and most people love, and this is someone who seems to be committed to presenting the news in a way that hasn't been seen on any network in decades

  12. To be fair, CBS has had low ratings for 30 years, and has little to do with the content.

True, true.. But their crusade for hard news isn't doing much... They may be gaining viewers (albeit slightly) but they also aren't stealing them away from NBC and ABC

  13. Wouldn't bet on it. I think they want to be seen as doing hard news, all the while serving up soft content. This way the audience thinks it's eating its spinach but in in fact being served sugary treats. Ideal combo from ABC's perspective.

That doesn't even make any sense... You can't be "seen" as doing something without actually doing it ... The hard news approach CBS is taking is not working in the ratings, and that's because the majority of the public does not want a newscast of all hard news... What we may refer to as "fluff" is actually just a way to steer away from the horrible stories facing our world, because people can get that news all day. I know it's been said on here before, but clearly the ratings are speaking for themselves. People want to hear good news, and if you refer to feel-good stories as fluff, then so be it. But the average American news viewer doesn't want to hear 30 minutes of terrorism, crime, and racism... I agree ABC was leaning in a direction that often came off as "fluffy" but I feel that could also be attributed to the presentation.

  14. I think changes to the broadcast in terms of content are unlikely. As someone else said, Diane's World News became more tabloidy after Ben Sherwood became president. Secondly, they are having succes in the ratings for the first time in 20 years. Why change course now?

I think whoever made the decision to change it back to "World News Tonight," whether it be the new EP, David, or an exec, is clearly pushing it in the direction of a more "Jennings-esque" broadcast... If they plan to keep the broadcast the same in terms of content and presentation, basically a continuation of Sawyer's tenure, they wouldn't have changed the name. The renaming is a technique of distancing the broadcast from it's immediate past, which some people didn't like, and moving in the direction of their previously well-liked broadcast with Peter Jennings.
  15. Basically, I think they are probably going to try to position themselves somewhere between NBC and CBS in terms of content at this point, and I think that would be largely beneficial for viewers, and of course ratings.
