I streamed a little bit of What's New and (at least the part I saw) is pretty much Lunch Break...just at 5pm. The show itself isn't bad, it's just not what people want to watch.

I’m told some of the former Tribune stations will not be getting the new Scripps graphics and music. WPIX, WTKR/WGNT and WTVR have all been approved to keep their current graphics and music packages.
I hope this is true. I bet there are going to be some other Scripps stations who ask for the same thing or get their own new look.

Just watch as these newscasts bomb against the established news shows in their respective markets. I don't think audiences will take to this, especially if they're not even making the newscasts within the market.
Totally agree. Who thought "let's produce a newscast for cities hundreds of miles away that are already competitive enough"?? Whoever did needs their head checked out

Oh, come on. There are more options here than "stay-at-home moms" and people in assisted living/nursing homes. There are:
- Retired people
- People who work non-"standard" hours and are thus free to have the TV on in the mornings if they're awake
- People who work from home and are thus also free to have the TV on
- Stay-at-home dads
And those are just the ones I can think of.
Some people also go to work/school later and could watch some of the show.

This Week is being anchored from the Times Square GMA set.
Okay this pretty much confirms TV3 is being totally redone, not just a small refresh. I have a feeling it will debut tomorrow night. I wonder what it will look like?

I give it a few months max (no more than a year) and "What's New" will be back to just a traditional 5pm newscast--as it should be.
Literally not surprised at all. That was a joke of a "newscast" if I ever did see one.
I don't know if it was supposed to be a "newscast". More lifestyle than anything else.

I think it's really dumb how the morning shows aren't streamed live onto their streaming services which are popular amongst younger news consumers. Young people like me want content wherever they are. I'm not even home at 7am, but I would definitely stream Today if it was offered on NBC News Now. It'd be a great way to get more and younger viewers.

Hopefully 'Today' improves in the 20s. I liked seeing Hoda anchor with Lester this morning. That might be a solid paring with Al on weather, Carson on entertainment, and perhaps Savannah at the news desk.
I doubt that will happen. Hoda and Savannah have really good chemistry and it's be beyond dumb for NBC to take Lester off of Nightly News when they are in the middle of a close ratings battle with WNT.

Here is WKYC's new lineup starting January 13:
11 a.m. – Kelly Clarkson
noon – Live on Lakeside
1 p.m. – Days of Our Lives
2 p.m. – Daily Blast Live (x2)
3 p.m. – Dr. Phil
4 p.m. – Ellen
5 p.m. – 3 News at 5 p.m. (aka “What’s New”)
Notice that "Lunch Break" is missing.
Even though I'm a fan of Tegna's innovation and the revamp of WKYC, I have to laugh that Lunch Break didn't even last 3 months! I liked the show...but I don't think it should be considered a news show, more lifestyle than anything else. Looking forward to "What's New"...Jay and Betsy make a great team!

Sheinelle Jones is leaving Saturday Today, but will still host the 3rd hour M-F. A rotating list of anchors will sit with Peter Alexander over the next several weeks.
Surprised it took her this long to step down. She's becoming much more of a presence on weekday TODAY, not just in the 3rd hour, so she's on her way up!

Am I the only one extremely disappointed she wasn’t reunited with Bob Opsahl for one final time? Also, did they mention him and her together at all? I don’t even see where he said anything.I thought the entire send-off/close was kind of lame. No big crowds of people like they do for every other TV big-wig retirement? Maybe she didn't want to make a big fuss so they honored her wishes.

WTHR is using the Tegna graphics for weather cut-ins at Pacers games.
Did this just start? Anyone can answer this- but now that they are starting to use the wx graphics a bit- how long until the entire graphics package and music debuts on TV?

I guess they'll be launching on-air sooner rather than later. The GM originally told me the look would launch after November (I interpreted it as December), then he told me March 2020. Wonder what happened.

Hearst just made a position for Today alum Jeff Rossen's consumer reports and his team. Must-runs aren't going anywhere on Hearst.
But a must-run like this is harmless...

Wow. I'm in total shock and I can't even imagine what the team at WFSB is dealing with tonight. She will be missed by many in the state.

So this confirms it was in-house. This is really refreshing to see. I wish more stations would design packages in-house these days.
Same here. They did a great job! Some still do graphics in-house. I know Lilly Broadcasting is working on a refresh to their existing package. That should debut in early 2020.

First impression: Eh.
I feel like a lot of it has to do with WTXL's presentation and implementation of the look. The music is good, but I hope they have faster, more serious cuts. The graphics are okay (animate WAY TOO SLOW), as well, but could use some refinements.
Is WTXL always this sleepy or did they change things up with the launch?
I'm a huge fan of the Tegna look and sound, which I think was executed perfectly. I see where Scripps was trying to go...but they missed the mark. Hopefully things can be improved upon.

They should be fortunate the competition is a trainwreck there.
That's not entirely true. I read recently that WLTX is making big gains and quickly eating away at WIS 10's dominance.

Out of curiosity do we know why it's taking so long for WTHR and WBNS to be "Tegna-fied"?? I know when they acquired KFMB it didn't take 4 months... I'm not expecting the newly acquired properties to get it for some time....
Not sure about WBNS, but I've been told by a source at WTHR that they will switch sometime after this month. Sounds like the new look will debut in December.

Found where they got their new graphics from...

Dang. Why did they eliminate his position? Are they going to replace him? Don't they need an anchor at 4, 5, and 6:30?

WJET/WFXP in Erie has named longtime weekend anchor David Belmondo as their new morning anchor. He replaces Traci Teudhope who left a few months ago to work at Erie's PBS affiliate, WQLN.
I've noticed that WJET/WFXP seems to have a recruitment issue compared to locally owned WICU/WSEE. WICU/WSEE seems to have no issues recruiting good reporters. I have a feeling they pay a lot better so that might be why. They have not had any anchor changes in a while, however, over the summer they did move one of their morning anchors to the midday news (had a job posting for new morning anchor) only to move her back in the fall. I don't know if they didn't get anyone good, but they also got a new news director over the summer...

Really nice job with the open and graphics here.
Yes. They did a REALLY good job. It's a nice look. The new Guardian updates are awesome, too, IMO!

Yeah. I noticed the content choice too. It was much lighter. But I wasn't sure if it was a slow news day or something. I hope they fix that.

I wonder if other former Tribune stations will start debuting the new look soon. I'm guessing the FOX affiliates would want the new look before the Super Bowl next Sunday.
