  1. The reason why they have social media obsessed news is because, and I doubt anyone here will admit to this, the mainstream media (including local news), and by extension television itself is becoming obsolete, and as WCSH/WLBZ is showing, the media is desperate to remain relevant. I've said this many times and I'll say it again: Why wait for the 6 o'clock news anymore (which is often full of elitists now) when you can get it online?
  2. People are more aware of cities in the us outside of their own than they were 20 years ago. Dont blame Tegna. Ok, blame them for Tegnitis, but blame the internet more for changing things so that we get info asap instead of waiting until the 6 o'clock news like we would've had to 20 years ago.
  3. Actually, not even Fox was friendly to trump until a couple of months ago (in fact, aside from their coverage of trumps crass comments, Fox's unfair and unbalanced bias against trump, combined with roger ailes being one of two creepy old men, are the reasons why I now outright refuse to trust Fox News anymore). Sinclair on the other hand is unapologetically supportive of trump. Also, thank you so much John Oliver for ruining the chance that Gary Johnson and Jill Stein had for presidency! Not really, in fact quite the opposite. I knew they had some kind of agenda, and I think it includes politics. What would make it even worse is if their agenda involves having a criminal empire with crimes including, but sure as hell not limited to: drug dealing, bank robbery, rape, homicides, etc.
  4. Well I have praised him (like how he actually does stuff to change the tv industry for better or worse unlike most of us, and that he establishes himself early on like he did with KLAS), but like with time magazine's person of the year award, that doesnt mean I like him. That's like someone saying that I'm a trump supporter because I like how charismatic he is. I dont like nexstar more than any of you, nor do I support trump. If anything, I actually HATE nexstar and sinclair. And sook may have taken too many influences from julian sinclair smith (sinclair isnt even his middle name) and david smith, including some of the worst aspects of them, like exploiting loopholes. It may not be a major issue in itself, but considering how often nextar and sinclair have done it, how their biggest acquisitions (first albritton, now media general) were out of excess abuse of loopholes, and how both companies ceos have suspiciously high net worths (which makes me wonder if they funded criminal empires with their money), they both crossed the line (in nexstar's, or should I say, nexstar media's case, the merger with media general) and I will never forgive nor trust the companies' CEOs again after that! And I've had a bit of grudging respect for them that was dwindling recently, but now, it's all gone and sook has changed for the worse.
  5. Because many of them are part of street gangs. And why cant we do anything about the situation? Or if we can, what can we do? Also, can you stop nitpicking parts of a quote, and respond to the entire thing? And by the way, answer all three questions.
  6. You know what's even sadder? The fact that if any of us were the CEO of Nexstar, we'd do the same thing. And everyone has used loopholes, I know because I did, and I've noticed an assload of people do it too.
  7. Well now that I consider that article from FTVLive that Breaking News shared, I can see why Tegna introduced the new way of news onto the stations that they chose to introduce it to And about the article and the one before it, Scott forgot to mention that KSDK is also a struggling station (its even been well documented here in TVNT, so it needs no explanation), and I assume Cheatwood visited that station as well. Also, I have two questions (again): First, what's the next underperforming Tegna station that will introduce this new way of doing news? And second, whats the next station that'll get the new graphics (as in the one KXTV has)?
  8. I still think KUSA should've been the one testing the graphics instead, or at least a better choice than KXTV.
  9. KXTV isn't going through an entire branding change. All that's changed is the fact that they added "(connect)" on their logo. Besides that, its the exact same logo from a year ago! And not to mention that KUSA is essentially the design tank's graphics hub, and as such, they should test their new graphics on there instead.
  10. Not really, at least not to me. Especially if the station in question is near or even at the ratings basement (in this case, KXTV). I still think it makes the most sense if they test on a station that is a graphics hub, I mean, they tested out the L3 update on KUSA, why not test out the graphics on there?
  11. Kind of like vanilla ice with queen (you know the one song). Neither are much different than each other. By the way, I have a couple of questions about KXTV's graphics: Why didn't they introduce the graphics to KUSA, their graphics hub, instead? Also, are they pulling off a Fox O&O update (color palletes and news music are the same, but graphics layout is heavily modified)?
  12. But they may have bought the wrong things in bulk, yet they wont listen to us.
  13. Speaking of KXTV, their website header and footer now have the word "(connect)" below their logo. Not sure if its a glitch or if they did it on purpose, but that's an ironic parallel to "10 connects". UPDATE: I just checked this out: http://www.abc10.com/sports/nba/sacramento-kings/nypd-investigates-incident-with-matt-barnes-/363610747 Yep, the "ABC 10 (connect)" branding is real. Not the best the station could come up with. In fact, quite the opposite, seeing as how its similar to WTSP's blunder of a slogan. Also, a double whammy for the Kings, but that's for a thread in the sports section.
  14. Well, when something is the same for too long, it breaks, though I dont know exactly how long it takes for that to happen. But I will say, that didnt break yet
  15. And what next, Time Warner buys TEGNA? Actually, that's a ridiculous scenario, but still, KXTV is last, and not having a duopoly parnter certainly doesnt help matters, not that it would've helped anyway considering how run down the station is
  16. I have to give a proper ending to my thread (as in the "how much of a difference have we made?" ghread) right now, and this will be a rant. Yes I may have gone a bit overboard with the activism thing, but seeing many of these news stories really just grinds my gears (and I mean with a screeching sound). And as much as I hate how a lot of police procedurals (Law and Order and its spinoffs being the most infamous) make it look like they're glorifying police brutality (and maybe are, but I don't know if they are or not), there's at least the wire, and I even prefer watching criminal minds over law and order. What I do think though, is that, contrary to popular belief, not only is there a liberal bias in the media, but also a conservative bias as well. In other words, it's either conservative (sometimes extreme conservatism) like Fox News, Sinclair, and possibly Nexstar, or liberal (sometimes extremely liberal) like NBC, Gannett and TEGNA, Raycom, CBS, and more recently, ABC, and there is almost no middle ground except Time inc (as in Time magazine), PBS (which is most of my use for my tv set recently), and, to a lesser extent, time warner and tribune. Also, there's quite a chunk of BS on the news media about stuff like bravery and cowardice (which if I even discuss that again, it'll go as horribly as last time), female oppression (there's actual female oppression in third world countries like Syria and Lebanon, and ISIS are a well know group of sexists who don't care if no means no), and even crime stats (crime has gone down, but many think its on the rise). And btw, I don't think most whites have white privilege (despite what the media tells us) or they wouldn't have to move out of gentrified cities like many minorities do because the rent is too damn high (which goes for many middle class people regardless of race). I also want to talk about the fact that I just thought that if I could find people here that would join me in becoming activists in the TV industry, I would have a good start and a good structure as to what issues we'd tackle, but it turns out I was completely wrong. So there, go ahead and speculate, gossip, and be misinformed about stuff in the TV industry, I'm finding some other group of people that will join me, and even if I can't do that, I can still solve (or attempt to solve) the gentrification problem that Austin has, travel the world and have my own adventures.
  17. Then why should you be passive about it? In fact, why should any of us be passive about it?
  18. Then why don't we call or email them about it? I've got their phone number right here from google: 972-373-8800
  19. Becuase it became painfully obvious why
  20. I'm not sure most of TV news had big balls (or any in that matter) at all, it only became painfully obvious now
  21. What about KXTV's branding? I think it's ridiculous that they rebranded to that, but I digress.
  22. Thats why I'm not going to care about media ownership anymore once the m&a craze is over with (which by the time I leave this site, it'll be close to being done with)
  23. I wish his grandchildren well, because he left a legacy with his involvement in the education system (his group makes textbooks for schools)
