  1. While Spann easily has his choice of where he could work/would like to work, his name is too heavily tied to ABC 33/40. Sinclair is NOT going to let that get away and take those advertiser dollars with him. Just think of the revenue he and his name bring to WBMA on a monthly basis. When Sinclair first assumed all rights of that station they messed up in a big way by messing with 33/40's weather department. While we don't know 100% of what goes on behind closed doors, I have a very strong feeling he laid down the law with the company because things ended up going back to the way they were when Allbritton had them.

As far as Mike Raita, he "stepped away" from 33/40's cameras on a regular basis to work on other projects with the other sister stations in the market while keeping the title "sports director" for all Sinclair stations in Birmingham. I feel that was Sinclair's first step in getting rid of him.

  2. Big changes are about to happen at WVUE in New Orleans with a change in anchors and the time(s) they will be seen on-air:

Louisiana Media Co.’s Fox affiliate WVUE New Orleans (DMA 51) is changing its morning newscast. Longtime anchor team John Snell and Nancy Parker will take over the Fox 8 Morning Edition anchor desk beginning June 20.

In addition, Greg Adaline joins Snell and Parker as anchor of the Fox 8 Alert Center, providing local, national and international breaking news throughout the morning. Weekend Anchor Meg Gatto makes the move to anchor the 4:30 a.m. newscast while reporting the rest of the morning. Meteorologist Shelby Latino and Traffic Reporter Kristi Coleman will continue providing the weather and traffic reports while Deven Clarke hits the streets with daily news reports.

"John and Nancy are two of the most experienced and well respected journalists in the New Orleans market and will bring knowledge, talent and their dynamic relationship to morning viewers," said WVUE VP-GM Tim Ingram.

Snell and Parker’s move to mornings brings changes to other WVUE newscasts. Here's the new anchor lineup:

    • Liz Reyes and Meteorologist Bruce Katz will remain on Fox 8 News at Noon.

    • Liz Reyes joins Shelley Brown on the anchor desk with Bruce Katz and Sports Director Juan Kincaid for the Fox 8 News at 4 pm.

    • Lee Zurik and Kim Holden will take over anchor duties left behind by Snell and Parker and join Chief Meteorologist David Bernard and Juan Kincaid on Fox 8 News at 5 pm.

    • Lee Zurik will be joined by Shelley Brown along with Bernard and Kincaid on Fox 8 News at 9 pm.

    • Kim Holden and Lee Zurik along with Bernard and Kincaid wrap up the night on Fox 8 News at 10 pm.

    • Rob Krieger will anchor weekends with Meteorologist Nicondra Norwood and Sports Anchor Chris Hagan.

  3. Also what's going on with Hearst stations adding newscasts? KOCO has added a 9am and 9pm Newscasts, KMBC will be adding a 4pm Newscast and lengthening their 9pm Newscast on KCWE to 60 minutes, KCCI, KETV, among others are the recent 9pm News on Me TV additions.

I wouldn't be surprised if more Hearst stations add additional newscasts as for me we might be seeing a 3rd OKC station with a 4pm Newscast (KOCO) because of all of the newscast expanding the Hearst stations (lately) have been doing.

WAPT extended their Sunday 10 p.m. newscast to from 10-10:30 to 10-11:05.

  4. WJTV in Jackson has started a weekday 4 p.m. newscast. I haven't noticed it mentioned on this website, and I am just noticing it on television, so I am guessing it just debuted in the past few weeks. WLBT has had a newscast from 4-5 p.m. for several years now. WAPT has had a newsbrief between Ellen and Judge Judy at 4 p.m. for several years.

WJTV's newscast airs from 4-4:30 p.m. and is anchored by Terrance Friday.

  5. Sounds like WJBF-TV has made the switch from the Media General Group Package by JDK Music to Stephen Arnold's Aerial.

Here's an opening clip from today's Noon news:

  6. Now that's just plain pitiful.

So going to a speaking engagement in Jackson after visiting your ailing parents in TN means you're a liar? I mean, why in the hell would she lie about that? Hell, she even showed pictures of her very sick father at the press conference on Sunday, but was never given an opportunity to show proof to her bosses. They obviously didn't care about seeing her side of things. They only cared about trying to find a slick way to push this veteran & well-liked personality out the door. And that's just sad.

I wished she would file a wrongful termination lawsuit against these two assholes for firing her.

I expect a lawsuit at some point. There's already a job listing on Raycom's website as of 2-29. Also, there's a listing for a GM on Raycom's website for WDAM (listed prior to these events).

Management had their minds made up a long time ago that they wanted her out, but they needed a "legal" way to do it. I'm certain of it.

  7. Hattiesburg/Laurel, MS market residents are left confused as to what has happened to WDAM's Miranda Beard. She was the morning/midday anchor and Asst. News Director and has been with the station for at least 30+ years. It appears that her last day at Ch. 7 was February 25. Calls, email, etc. to the station from viewers have gone unanswered.

Beard sent local media a press release stating that she will answer the $1,000,000 question on Sunday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m. at a press conference.

Miranda Beard revealed at a press conference Sunday afternoon that after WDAM received a tweet of a slide she used at a conference in Jackson after visiting her parents in TN she was escorted out of the building once she returned to work. News Director Nick Ortego and General Manager Joe Sciortino escorted Beard out of the building after they accused her of lying about her trip to Tennessee.

Viewers are expressing their outrage on the station's Facebook page calling a boycott of channel 7.

  8. *SPOILER ALERT*

There's no need for a conference because this woman has figured it out:

If I am not mistaken that's a volunteer position. I also saw her on the faculty/staff section of the Laurel School District. She has been involved with local education in Laurel/Jones County for years.

There are some people who work for that long at a station and refuse to have any kind of tribute, etc., but this is not one of those instances. Hattiesburg Patriot's Facebook page has a ton of speculations as to what has happened, but nothing confirmed. That's why she will hold a press conference so the people who have watched her for all these years will hear it from her.

  10. ABC 33/40 and James Spann were on-air for a tornado warning earlier this evening around 6 p.m. when Spann opened the 6:00 p.m. news with the station ID and included WJSU (now WGWW) and WCFT (now WSES). I thought 33 and 40 were sold/ditched in the deal? Maybe he did that out of error? Just looking for some clarification.

  11. New Orleans will lose a unique legend this Wednesday, March 2 as WVUE FOX8 Chief Meteorologist Bob Breck retires after nearly 40 years in New Orleans. Ch. 8 will air a one-hour special on Wednesday (03-02-16) from 6-7 p.m. CDT.

David Bernard will officially take Bob's place as chief meteorologist after that.

  12. I think its just weekday mornings (4:30-7:00am from WJTV 12) and Sundays-Fridays at 10:00pm for WHLT 22 (weeknights as local and Sundays from WJTV 12 + Sports Zone).

    That's correct.

Viewers do not like watching Jackson news and Javkson weather. I don't know why they're still simulcasting.

  13. WHLT's final days with an in-house news department before Media General tossed it out. WHLT started a news update segment at night several years later that lasted a few minutes. WJTV eventually starting simulcasting their 10:00 p.m. newscast on WHLT. After several more changes, WHLT now has a 10:00 p.m. newscast that is recorded by WJTV and aired with all local content. WHLT has reporters that contribute to the newscast.
