  1. Who wants to sign off on this letter?

    Dear TEGNA;

Your purchase of KFMB is a win for you, because the station ratings are tops in the market. I'm sure you've seen their revenue projections, budgets, and more. Yes, your company changing the business model and doing new things that are consider ["innovative"] However, one would like to question some of the changes you've made with Belo Stations when you purchase them several years ago.

Please, listen because these are just some coaching points. STOP FUCKING UP GOOD STATIONS. You've gotten many gems tv stations and you have turn them into BIRD DEW meaning SHIT! Let take a look at KXTV, WWL, KENS, KING, KHOU and including your own stations that were apart of the Gannett umbrella WXIA, KSDK, WTSP, WUSA, KVUE. Please, don't let your consultants gut KFMB like you've done other stations.

Please, once again STOP FUCKING UP GOOD STATIONS AND DON'T FUCK UP KFMB! We know your track record, and it not pretty. Here hoping you don't cut Barbara Lee Edwards' salary, because we know it always awesome sauce when you can make millions and the talent has to take a cut and etc. Again, DON'T FUCK UP THIS ONE, the reason why? Well let take a look at WWL 4 in New Orleans. Let see if they will be #1 in time slots in February.

    Sincerely,

    Those that give a damn-

A little over the top (the KXTV thing is splitting hairs though) but I can't say I disagree.

Look at the results. WFAA, once untouchable, now isn't. WWL, never-lost-in-decades, lost for the first time.

The mass talent exodus, both on and off camera, at their legacy stations has been sad to see. It's no coincidence that many of their formerly-dominant stations have gone off the rails.

They're all about letting the social media tail wag the dog on news and hiring cheap MMJs to lug around a camera and churn out "content."

I feel like Tegna has made a business decision to forgo high ratings and instead run #2 stations at a bottom-dollar pricepoint, keeping the margins healthy. It's sad.

  2. The Nexstar website names will always live on stations with consolidated news departments.

    BigCountryHomepage.com for KTAB and KRBC.

There's no way they could be separated.

Yeah, I wonder if we'll see a two-tiered system where the consolidated Big 3 stations keep the stupid URLs but the solo stations either keep their MG website names or revert to their old ones.

Although, interesting to note, KTVX kept "Good4Utah."

Wonder if it's up to each station.

  3. Going off a post on the WLNE 1993 theme...

I'm prolly way off, but Doppler Studios Atlanta (also producers of the WSB 1991 theme) come to mind, especially with the second YouTube clip. And behind the anchor portion of the second clip, I'm reminded of the WJLA 1992 Open, which I previously wondered if Doppler Studios had anything to do with. Also, wonder if Rhode Island based Star Trak Music (startrakstudios.com who composed their 1995 theme may have composed any earlier themes? According to their website, they've been around over 30 years, so either of these guesses may be a slim possibility! Checked through ASCAP and BMI and with BMI, StarTrak Music composer John Rametta only had one listing for WLNE, but he also listed a ton of individual package cuts separately as BMI composition entries, so there is really no way to know for sure if there wasn't other things made. Lots of rabbit holes here to jump in and out of.

Maybe some others will chime in with some more guesses that get us in the right direction or with some confirmation somewhere over these two packs.

Maybe Doppler could also be responsible for the KWTV 1993 theme? *shrug*

  4. Has anyone mentioned Citadel Communication's knock off of Hearts' graphics? This look is weird because everything is italicized and there is little weight to any of the font.

What's sad is that Citadel thinks these graphics are state of the art...

  5. WABI had been family owned since day 1?

There are still a few left - WRAL/WRAZ, WBRZ, KTBS, WOAY, WINK, WPSD, WSIL, WBOC, WMDT, WFMJ, WWTV/WWUP...those off the top of my head...

How many of those will still be independent a few years from now though?

As far as still owned by the original family signing it on and owning it...

    Add:

    KSTP (Hubbard)

    WBNS (Wolfe)

    KOBI/KOTI (Smullin)

    WISC (Murphy [burns])

*KRGV (I think it's been owned by the Manships the entire time)

You can also count WGEM, but Quincy, to me, has expanded a bit beyond the point of a mom-and-pop operator despite being a family company. Same goes for original Cox/Hearst stations.

And, although, not since "Day 1"...WCAX has been owned by the Martin family for all but the first four years of its existence.

  6. Here the ftvlive report and the video.

That's the face of a man who's sold his soul...

Interestingly, the "content concerns" tab doesn't appear on some of the Sinclair news-share stations' sites (though their actual news content varies -- some have none [WRLH/WPGH/KSAS], some are a complete ripoff of their partner station's content [WMSN])...

    ...except WDKY:

Is anyone familiar with how the SBG news-share arrangements work? The partnering stations must have content control...even on the ones branded as a standalone show. Is WDKY/WKYT's different?

  7. I saw this earlier this week. It appears that Sinclair has replaced its longtime "SBG" logo and placed its "SINCLAIR" in big letters on the header of its website. How uninspiring.

But the big shocker is that its shell Cunningham Broadcasting now has its own website, and it looks like Deerfield Media might be getting one too. But I'm thinking what's the point in making these website now?

    http://cunninghambroadcasting.com/about-us/

"Cunningham Broadcasting Corporation is an independent television broadcast company that, together with its subsidiaries, owns and/or operates 12 television stations in eleven markets across the United States. Cunningham, (formerly Glencairn, Ltd. prior to 2002) is a Maryland corporation and is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland."

  8. I think you can kiss pretty much any standalone CW/My station in a duopoly bye. You can easily cash in and put the affiliation on a subchannel and it's nothing but a paperwork shuffle to anyone but people like us.

I'm sure plenty of Jesus stations will cash in...

  9. Hearst

    Cox

    Sunbeam

    Graham

    Dispatch

    Heartland

    Quincy

Tribune (less so than Nexstar, Sinclair or TEGNA)

    Meredith

    Gray?

Those are companies that I think of that really do keep their people and doesn't make much cuts or bloodshed.

Eh, Gray doesn't really belong there. They laid off a bunch at WDBJ.

I would add Hearst...and there are a couple of the smaller ones that also seem pretty good. Cordillera, Hubbard, Morgan Murphy to name a few. You look at the stations (esp. the flagships) and how many longtimers are still at each...

  10. Sinclair is really running the gauntlet big time, here's what's going on.

Such a disgusting company. Really seems like the place to be in this business is at one of the privately-owned family companies like Hearst, Cox, etc. that aren't chasing the biggest margin for their shareholders.
