  1. I'm prolly way off, but Doppler Studios Atlanta (also producers of the WSB 1991 theme) come to mind, especially with the second YouTube clip. And behind the anchor portion of the second clip, I'm reminded of the WJLA 1992 Open, which I previously wondered if Doppler Studios had anything to do with. Also, wonder if Rhode Island based Star Trak Music (startrakstudios.com who composed their 1995 theme may have composed any earlier themes? According to their website, they've been around over 30 years, so either of these guesses may be a slim possibility! Checked through ASCAP and BMI and with BMI, StarTrak Music composer John Rametta only had one listing for WLNE, but he also listed a ton of individual package cuts separately as BMI composition entries, so there is really no way to know for sure if there wasn't other things made. Lots of rabbit holes here to jump in and out of.

Maybe some others will chime in with some more guesses that get us in the right direction or with some confirmation somewhere over these two packs.

I have a feeling Star Trak was behind their 2001-09 theme though. The instrumentation is classic Star Trak.

  2. As mentioned in the chat box...

A brand new logo for Wilmington's WWAY 3, all in preparation for WWAY receiving the CBS affiliation on DT2. The letters aren't bad, but the 3 looks so 80s-ish.

I kinda like this. Has a retro vibe...WAY better than all the derivative crap passing as new logos now. (Or just horrible like WFXT).

It looks like there was some actual thought put into this, which is refreshing.

  3. You know what's even sadder? The fact that if any of us were the CEO of Nexstar, we'd do the same thing.

    But we're not.

What's good for Nexstar's shareholders and Perry Sook is not what's good for the industry, the people who work in it and the people it serves.

  4. That is true. But there are also some longtimers at other stations in South Florida

WTVJ: Trina Robinson and Jackie Nespral

WPLG: Todd Tongen (Was there in 1989 and hired off on Ann Bishop's Suggestion) and also Kristi Kreuger (guess you could put hmmm Laurie Jennings to the list who came back after WSVN)

WFOR: Poor Poor Elliot and I think Al Sunhine. Maybe Barry

    Al Sunshine retired in 2013.

WFOR has Hank Tester (ex-TVJer) and Peter D'Oench (WSVN 78-82, WPLG 89-04) though.

Then there's Michael Putney at PLG.

  5. Wonder if this means additional investment in the KNPN operation.

St. Joe has to be the smallest market in the country with two competing, independently-owned shops. What's the smallest with three? Marquette? (If you want to count WJMN as a full competing shop)

  6. So there a breaking story on FTVLIVE.com but it does sounds like he HATES FOX O&O; if you ever read his stories he calls it "The Firm" base of the novel/movie. Not only is he snarky, but at times he out for blood too.

    http://www.ftvlive.com/todays-news/2016/8/6/breaking-fox-oo-ep-busted-for-child-porn

If you'd look into it more...you'd see it's because of how they've been treating their employees. Everyone is under a gag order...and they've been pushing to bust the unions at the union stations.

I personally prefer newsblues over FTVLive. They even give the link to the current DMA rankings from nielsen.

FTVLive is regularly out in front of everyone I've found...and for free lol. I cancelled my N/B subscription and never looked back.

  7.

Wondering if anyone knows who this VO from WTEN is/was. Also heard in (then sister station) WTVO's opens of the early 90s.

I feel like I've heard the voice on other stations but I can't quite put a finger on who it might be.

  8. Emily Miller is gone from WTTG. She was the chief investigative reporter. FTVLive reported that earlier this month the was working on a story about a charter school that had a black / white segregated fountain that was spiked after the dean complained. Apparently she promoted the story even after it was canned and hadn't been seen since.

Emily is also a pro gun advocate (I'm not against guns but think there should be controls) who has spoken at the Maryland state house and wrote a book entitled Emily Gets Her Gun: But Obama Wants to Take Yours . Surprisingly the station had no problem with their chief investigative reporter taking a stance on this controversial issue.

It's a Fox O&O...so not really, considering she took the "right" stance.

Sinclair announces her hire in 3...2...1...

  9. Something has to be in the water at WTVT...the talent there is almost unrecognizable there from what it used to be just a few short years ago.

I'm sure quite a few of the departures have been actual retirements...question is...how many haven't been?

  10. I wonder if he's planned this all along. I hate to suggest that he was lying in his original announcement from when he left TV, but this seems suspiciously like it could be the termination of a non-compete clause.

A decent percentage of "retirement" and "spending time with family" announcements are total crap...

  11. The weird thing is that when I played Bob Klein the WPRI news theme, he was certain it wasn't his work. The promo obviously is, he just did not recognize the concurrent news theme music. His memory might just be fuzzy, though.

    I should ask Rick Krizman...

While you're asking, please include a request for some clean cuts of the old KRON music...

Any word from Krizman? 24 Hour News was a highly underrated 90s pack and I can't be the only person who would love to hear more of it. :p
