Michael Estime to leave WKYC around May according to FTVLive.  That same article also touched on the station's ratings problems in February:

Well that insider isn't wrong. They don't want to admit that this experiment failed. I mean if the ratings doesn't show that this isn't working, I don't know what will.

I would imagine they are keeping the music for now. They don't want to overwhelm their viewers with too much change, after all. C-Clarity will probably start to creep into the shows little by little.

I'm thinking the same thing. If and/or when that starts, then those Talkback 16 segments will be must watch lol...

That would be nice! Though I’m not sure they’re giving up on the “new 3” - just yet, keeping those silly names and inane “newscasts” in tact, for now.

Perhaps this ratings period will be the wake-up call WKYC needs to rewind back to an actual, relevant station again?!

They probably won't. At least not yet. Its possible if the ratings aren't good, then they may change things, but I'm not holding my breath...

Second, it seems that "Channel 3" is slowly being phased back in.  I have seen that phrase on billboards now, and I heard Hollie Strano mention "in the Channel 3 Weather Center..."  Maybe "3" isn't quite working.

Good! Hopefully the logo will be phased out real soon...

It feels like a quick turnaround on this package vs. the last two. And if it is a while new network-wide package, I wonder what the plans are for other FOX Sports properties. The Daytona 500 is only a 2.5 weeks away, then MLB starts in late March.

If these graphics do make it to Daytona for the 500, then I hope the scoring pylon style ticker goes away and they go back to a horizontal ticker back at the top of the screen.

Russ is nearing 8 years at WKYC - about 3 years longer than I expected. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Jay rise to main anchor, given his presumably hefty salary and network-level chops. (That, and WEWS also has a main anchor with a sports background in Rob Powers.) Though I’d hate to see Russ go.  (And as far fetched as it may seem, I could actually see Russ at WBNS in Columbus, with his background at CBS...)

Yeah but here's the difference between Rob and Jay. AFAIK, Jay has only done sports being that he was at ESPN for 15 years. He hasn't actually anchored a hard newscast like Rob and Russ have. Rob was a fill in at WABC. He's done hard news. That's why he easily adjusted to it. Even Betsy, who isn't even an anchorwoman, has done hard news.

IMO, I just don't think Jay could do hard news. That would be a major transition for him. He doesn't do hard news on this 5pm show, from what I seen, and he didn't do that during the Lunch Break show. I hope I'm wrong if they are grooming him to replace Russ, but I'm not so sure...

Tell it to 'KYC management and Tegna, they're screwing everything up. They need to listen to the people. They want a traditional newscast back.

I honestly don't even know if there are any complaints in Cleveland about this, but I wouldn't be completely shocked if there are. They do need to listen to the people, but they won't.

And while TEGNA has screwed with most of their stations, WKYC got screwed up with the most. And that needs to change.

If you can bear 3+ minutes of Mike Polk trying to get children to understand the 'new' WKYC programming schedule...

My guess...if he went to a Giant Eagle parking lot and asked adults the same questions, nobody would know what he's talking about.

How much longer until we can be done with this and just call it "Channel 3 News" again?

I seen that video. It was so cringy. They need to go back to Channel 3 News. Immediately because this is getting ridiculous.

That's the thing.  Betsy Kling is actually a very good anchor.  And from what I can tell, she's arguably WKYC's most popular personality right now.

But if they're simply going to reproduce the failure that was "Lunch Break" at 5pm - people are going to be crying to get their Dr. Phil back at 5!  This is the time for them to finally step into this century with 5pm news...and I fear they're going to completely screw it up.

Oh there's no doubt she is. She's definitely more popular than her 5pm co-anchor Jay Crawford, that's for sure.

I think that's what this new 5pm newscast is going to be. Just a longer version of the Lunch Break show. And that's not what it should be.

This whole 3News thing is not working out. They fixed something that wasn't broken. And they need to go back to what was working, which is what they had before this whole 3News mess...

Because what worked so well for noon, has got to work for a 5pm show that's 20 years too late....right?

Oh yeah. It'll work wonders lol.

If it was structured liked an actual newscast, it might actually work...

Bumped this up to share that “3News” is using animated versions of their anchors to promote their new 5pm “newscast.”

    The madness continues.

They did this for the now cancelled Lunch Break show too.

Finally, WTAE Pittsburgh is planning to expand its weekday noon newscast to a full hour, following in WMTW's footsteps starting January 13th.

I was wondering when it was going to start since I seen a promo for it recently, so thanks!

Yestersay, after watching the 10:00 News on Pittsburgh's CW, I caught this on the Nightly Sports Call. They are using the main news set, could they be using the temp set for CBSN Pittsburgh?

Hmm. That is very possible. I actually thought they would build a set in the newsroom like they did for CBSN LA and San Francisco...

Veronica and Ken mentioned at the end of last nights Bay Area Nightbeat Newscast on KBCW that it will be going off the air. Tonight will be the last produced newscast on KBCW.

Starting Monday (12/9) KBCW will be broadcasting/simulcasting an hour of CBSN Bay Area Newscast in place of its 30 min Nightbeat Newscast.

WBZ did the same thing with their 8pm newscast on WSBK when they launched CBSN Boston.

All the weather graphics that launched are at stations that use TWC/WSI’s platform. WJZ and maybe KDKA still rely on Barron for their graphics.

KDKA uses WSI. They have The Weather Company logo on the backgroud of their weather computers...

But my big dislike is the line above the L3.

That's another thing I don't like about this package. Other than that and the logo bug not having a background, the package is okay...

Well, whenever this mess hits Cleveland, at least it will look better than the garbage WKYC is putting out.

    They desperately need a Tegna-vention.....

    Amen to that!
