Looks like they migrated from a rear projection display to a seamless video wall. Is that a vinyl image over a white plexiglass facia on the front of the anchor desk or did they finally put animation on it. I will say that this anchor desk looks more local news than network. It's huge for 1 person. I would much rather have a counter-height desk and and several stand-ups around the studio, than the anchor staying in one place during the entire show.
From what I could see in the video and from the image, it looks like they're testing the levels on these chairs to determine which would work well on camera. The problem with chrome is the reflectivity.
Isn't Nightly News still using Studio 1A? That's a bright set and has windows. I really like this use.
This is one of their studios in DC - N4. They have three main studios in their Capitol Hill - one for MTP, one primarily used by MSNBC, and this one. It’s by far the smallest of the three.

And apparently on a Green Screen set that mimics the originating one.
He anchors from the regular CBSEN studio.
It’s worth noting the a majority of the new studio is simply video walls. All that surrounds John in the attached image (from Monday night) is a single U shaped video wall. The “monitor” Weijia is in - totally fake.
I attached a pic of the building timelapse showing all the video walls and floor. The only actual set pieces are the wooden header, the desk, and the floor in front of it. In fact, the floor behind it is also a video wall. You’ll notice they pretape a lot of segments (including the penny one attached) on their set - it’s actually really creative.

MSNBC & NBC News unveiled an updated studio 4E last night, it appears Ari Melber was the first to use it. The former set had 2 video walls meeting at a 90 degree corner and a moveable show/network vertical branding banner. Now the space has been updated with a curved video wall that runs along the entire space, a new dark wood geometrical design piece that incorporates the NBC peacock and a color changing peacock motif display near the glass doors, they also replicated the desk MSNBC uses in studio 3A just with different finishes. Overall a huge improvement, it’s been really interesting how that small space has evolved since its introduction in 2016. Only caps I have as of now.
They actually debuted it weeks ago - right after the election. NBC expanded this space and used it for their election night coverage - that’s where the curved video wall came from (but they used it with AR to make it look taller).
Ana Cabrera and Katy Tur use it most days for their respective reports shows.

Sunday Today (sans Willie) updated to the new Today Show look this morning. Its bug has a white horizontal NBC News logo, versus the colorized stack one used during the week.
Wonder if Hoda and Jenna are next to update to the new look?

Sidebar: CNN’s “New Day” is in the dumps when it comes to ratings.
I wonder how much longer until changes are made.
Licht said at the WBD upfront a few weeks back that changes are coming to the morning show. https://www.thewrap.com/cnn-boss-morning-show-reimagined-chris-wallace-hbo-max/amp/

Saturday Today has an updated background in their Washington studio (N5). It debuted today.
Their virtual background makes them look like they are on street level with a similar set up to studio 1A in NYC. It appears the NBC family of channels is investing a lot of money in virtual backgrounds (we see them on MSNBC Reports, several other MSNBC shows, and now on Saturday Today).
Pics attached show the previous and new background.

No joke: Biden White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is leaving the administration for MSNBC.
She is the second senior WH official to make that jump in recent months. Symone Sanders show launches next month.

You can modify the lighting all you want, but you can't make the tiny shoebox of the studio any bigger than it previously was! While John gets a different TV screen away from the anchor desk to stand in front of, Stephen simply has to use the same monitor that they use as a background at the anchor desk! You can see the anchor desk literally right there in front of the TV screen that Stephen uses while presenting. The small size of this set never ceases to amuse me, but they're making the best of it as much as possible! For variety purposes, they are also using the chroma key wall from time to time, just as they also did on America's Weather Tonight last year...
EDIT: they just announced that Katie Garner will be surprisingly subbing for Brigit Mahoney on the debut edition of Fox Weather: Across America, and they have updated the graphic accordingly:
According to Twitter, they are in studio K. -

Where did you see this? Any sneak peaks?
Also wonder if this means their new set will debut then?

Hopefully with his change, Joe and Mika will be routinely in DC or NY. When they are there, the show flows much better and the interaction is far better. It's just not the same when they call it in from their home studio in Florida. I'm also hoping former BBC anchor Katy Kay has a larger role.
That will not happen. Joe (possibly both) is a Florida resident so he is required to live in Florida at least 183 days per year. https://www.alperlaw.com/florida-asset-protection/florida-residency/

JUST IN: Stephanie Rhule is set to replace Brian Williams as the host of the 11th Hour, according to Axios.
Her current 9 a.m. show will be absorbed by Morning Joe, although it is not clear what that will look like exactly.
Note: Way Too Early at 5 a.m. is also under the Morning Joe umbrella.

The changes brought CBSN very much in line with the extensive visual and brand rebrand that CBS News has gone through in recent times. It continues to tie so many of their brands together.
Throughout the day, the CBS News Streaming Network will air live daily newscasts of up-to-the minute news. Anchors Vladimir Duthiers, Anne-Marie Green, Tanya Rivero, Lana Zak, and Elaine Quijano will now, for the first time, be joined by Tony Dokoupil, co-host of CBS MORNINGS; Michelle Miller, Jeff Glor and Dana Jacobson from CBS SATURDAY MORNING; Jericka Duncan, anchor of CBS WEEKEND NEWS and CBS News national correspondent; and correspondents from across the Network.
The evening lineup kicks off at 6:00 PM, ET with the nightly political program RED AND BLUE now drawing upon CBS News’ Washington team of anchors and correspondents. At 7:00 PM, ET, the CBS News Streaming Network will deliver a live prime time news hour, recapping all of the top stories of the day and leveraging our New York headquarters and Washington and Los Angeles Bureaus. Beginning at 8:00 PM, ET the stream will present content from CBS News’ flagship broadcasts
The new changes include weekly shows highlighting several of CBS' longtime brands - CBS Sunday Morning, Money Watch, Climate Watch, Eye on America, On the Road, etc.
And for fun, attached is a .gif of the new CBS News Mornings (previously CBSN:AM). High-res pics from CBS PR are also attached

So what’s going on with MSNBC programing tonight? No Ayman, are they limiting broadcasts from 30 Rock again with COVID outbreaks in the building?
SNL had huge changes announced today, it wouldn’t surprise me if The Tonight Show went back to no audience and if Today limited the Plazza to less people while still requiring proof of vaccination.
Ayman didn't host his show on Peacock last night. Being so close to the holidays, he could simply be off. They could have chosen to go with alternate programing tonight instead of having someone else host his show. That's common

These graphics are a huge upgrade from what she previously had.
The tight shot on her is also framed incredibly well.
