NEW: NBC Nightly News debuted a new (to them) studio tonight. The broadcast now uses Studio 3A, the former home to MSNBC (now MS Now). It comes after months of work and small changes in the space. Tom uses the desk that originally debuted in 2017, but has since seen updates to its finishings. The show also has new monitor graphics, but kept its old open and supers.
-
MS rolled out subtle updates to its lower thirds today. The bottom bar, showcasing the show name and time, no longer touches the bottom of the screen and each side. The supers are also sized a bit differently with the ‘promo boxes’ on the right side animating in differently. See the attached photos. The KTR is the MS 1.0 look versus 1.1 from The Weekend.

The studios are really nice! I will admit I really, really liked the old MS supers more (top 3 all time supers for me). With the new pkg, I think the supers look better left justified. If I could change one thing, it would be the bottom bar. The Reports logo is in color and looks nice down there. But all the other shows today it was just a white background with black text or inverted. It would look better (IMO) with a custom background for each show or at least put the logo in color. Example: for The Weekend, I think the white background is fine but the logo should be colored like a blue or purple to match their graphics. Velishi’s could be a green/blue, Morning Joe could be burgundy, etc etc.

I bet most (if not all) of MS' shows will retain their looks, except (to your point) MS NOW Reports. Here's a look at what we can expect when Alex Witt debuts the new graphics later today:

GMA will debut their new studio on Monday, June 16th - one week from today. It is in Disney/ABC’s new HQ. Their studio is identical in size to that of The View/Tamron Hall and Live. This will be their last week in Times Square after more than two decades.

These graphics are a huge upgrade from what she previously had. The tight shot on her is also framed incredibly well.

This is one of their studios in DC - N4. They have three main studios in their Capitol Hill - one for MTP, one primarily used by MSNBC, and this one. It’s by far the smallest of the three.

Clickspring Design is responsible for the new studio. For what it’s worth, they also designed WABC’s street side studio. Here’s a rendering of both

And first on this forum: previews of what I’m told is the new WABC studio. You can see the 7 logo hanging above the desk.

He anchors from the regular CBSEN studio. It’s worth noting the a majority of the new studio is simply video walls. All that surrounds John in the attached image (from Monday night) is a single U shaped video wall. The “monitor” Weijia is in - totally fake. I attached a pic of the building timelapse showing all the video walls and floor. The only actual set pieces are the wooden header, the desk, and the floor in front of it. In fact, the floor behind it is also a video wall. You’ll notice they pretape a lot of segments (including the penny one attached) on their set - it’s actually really creative.
-
They actually debuted it weeks ago - right after the election. NBC expanded this space and used it for their election night coverage - that’s where the curved video wall came from (but they used it with AR to make it look taller). Ana Cabrera and Katy Tur use it most days for their respective reports shows.

Sunday Today (sans Willie) updated to the new Today Show look this morning. Its bug has a white horizontal NBC News logo, versus the colorized stack one used during the week. Wonder if Hoda and Jenna are next to update to the new look?

Licht said at the WBD upfront a few weeks back that changes are coming to the morning show. https://www.thewrap.com/cnn-boss-morning-show-reimagined-chris-wallace-hbo-max/amp/ -
Saturday Today has an updated background in their Washington studio (N5). It debuted today. Their virtual background makes them look like they are on street level with a similar set up to studio 1A in NYC. It appears the NBC family of channels is investing a lot of money in virtual backgrounds (we see them on MSNBC Reports, several other MSNBC shows, and now on Saturday Today). Pics attached show the previous and new background.
