Really? What gave you that idea?

Oh, I don't know. My guess is, based on my interpretation of your response to the fact that Ms. Barrett will be working in Charlotte, either you: a. are not a fan of the decisions she made at KDVR/KWGN, b. met her once and she kind of rubbed you the wrong way, or c. worked under her and were driven bananas by her.

That's just my interpretation; I guess I should have thought first before I posted my response....

I think ABC’s motto must be “an ish in every home and and 2 ish’s in every pot!”...

That pales in comparison to the A&P grocery chain's famous motto of yesteryear (no joke), "We watch our P's & Q's!"  (Now that's a motto a certain Scripps-owned station in the Big Apple could adopt LOL...) 😁

Even with a .5 or a 1 rating, which is probably about all they could realistically expect, if even, they can still rake in plenty of political ad dollars in 2020. After that, maybe they cancel. Maybe not. Candidates like to buy into news, primarily. Someone above asked why they aren't doing news on KTXA and WBFS? In both those markets, CBS already has newscasts it can sell into: KTVT and WFOR.

KTXA did have a prime time newscast starting when they went back to being an independent in 2006 up until 2011. It started as a 2 hour broadcast before eventually being cut to one hour (it was cancelled soon after).

  4. Something weird occurring on KLFY in Lafayette, LA again: They are running the new Nexstar close, but mentioned in the background are cities/towns in the Nashville, TN viewing area.

Should be for WKRN in Nashville (WKRN & KLFY are longtime sister stations going back to the Young Broadcasting days)...

Anyway, here is a screenshot (I didn’t take the photo this way; somehow that’s how it came out after I uploaded it, and you’ll also have to zoom in closely to look at the cities in question).....2335296C-AFF6-4381-B7DE-8E9D7CFE27FE.thumb.jpeg.88f0eeec9cd57aea18fe5b27d39cb04b.jpeg

  5. Not sure how this happened, but KLFY in Lafayette used the 2017-19 Nexstar animation to close their 5p news (it does have the 2020 copyright, BTW). Does any other Nexstar market (including the former Tribune ststions) have this close as of today??

With all of the hoopla about Joe Burrow winning the Heisman Trophy, WBRZ in Baton Rouge sent a reporter to Burrow's hometown (Athens, Ohio) to get reactions and went live at 10pm.

WBRZ went far and beyond WAFB and WVLA covering the story by sending a reporter there.  WVLA could have used pieces or reporters from WCMH or WOWK, but chose not to.

No one from WSAZ or WTAP was in Athens covering the hometown gathering (they posted AP copy to their websites), but WAFB looks like they sent someone to New York to cover the awards.

Despite not having the resources to send a sister station reporter there, and the importance of LSU Football in Baton Rouge, seeing this kind of dedication to a story is a good sign of good local ownership.

    I agree.

BTW, Jacques Doucet, WAFB’s weekend sports anchor (and who has covered LSU sports up close in some form since he joined WAFB in 2001!), was in New York covering the Heisman ceremony and the awarding of the Heisman to Joe Burrow....

At which point does Nexstar call it a day and go full WWJ there? Or would CBS not allow an affiliate to get away with that?

More than likely, no. I don't think CBS would like the idea of having no news on an affiliate in market #28. Now, on the other hand, Nexstar does have WGNO in New Orleans, which has its well-documented issues. But I think WGNO's affiliation contract with ABC requires them to have local newscasts, whereas when KDNL in St. Louis (owned by Sinclair) closed their news department in 2001, their affiliation agreement with ABC didn't have such a requirement (and I don't believe it has one to this day).....

    Yes, we have Office 365.

By the way, the story is now in the Washington Post. The world needed an escape, I suppose. 😂

    Very true.....

BTW, since you brought up Office 365, I do have a tech question I would like to ask (however corny it may sound):

When your station was owned by Tribune, did they make you fill out your time sheets electronically, or were they making employees fill out time sheets in paper form? I ask because when I was working at KADN (when it was owned by ComCorp) we had to fill out our time sheets on paper, and also, we had to put the time of our shifts in military time (e.g., 1500 to 2300 [3p-11p]), if you can believe that! (I can only go by my experience at KADN; I don't know how many, or if any, other ComCorp stations used paper time sheets.) After the sale to Nexstar, their manner of having employees filling out time sheets electronically (which I'm assuming is at every one of their stations) was a huge improvement!

In New Orleans for a few days, watching WWL.  Not sure when they did this, but they have slightly amended the name of the newscasts. It’s now “The Eyewitness News at (time).” It was Channel 4 Eyewitness News for decades. The just Eyewitness News for the past few years. They added a “THE”.

Also, they’ve brought back an announcer for the actual newscast intros.  I don’t believe they’ve had one since they switched to the new TEGNA look.  It makes a big difference. I like it.

I love it. "THE Eyewitness News" on WWL.....😀😀

This hopefully means that NO ONE ELSE will have the title of Eyewitness News in New Orleans for as long as WWL has it. Which, hopefully, will be FOREVER (BWAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA)!!!

  10. This kind of flew under the radar due to the 4th of July weekend, but it's official: Byron Allen's company called Allen Media Broadcasting is now the owner of KADN/KLAF in Lafayette, LA, having purchased it from Bayou City Broadcasting (the consummation notice is at the attached link)...... https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/cdbsmenu.hts?context=25&appn=101806732&formid=905&fac_num=33261

I know this was already brought up in the WUSA thread, but Tegna has re-upped with CBS for all of their stations....including WWL.

Considering the damage has already been done, this could cement WVUE's dominance in the market, especially in the AM.

    I think so, too....

Even better, he'll put all of "his" channels he sued to get on DirecTV and Xfinity as subchannels on these stations!

That's 9 additional channels (counting the Weather Channel)!! I don't think KADN can hold that many subchannels!! 🙁

I bet he'll fill all the non-network and non-news hours with his own programming.

Well, not necessarily all of them. America's Court with Judge Ross already airs on KADN 15.3 (the subchannel called My Acadiana TV, in reference to the subchannel's My Network TV affiliation). He does have shows that air on other channels in the Lafayette, LA, market, though; with that said, it wouldn't surprise me if at least most of his shows, if not all of them, moved to KADN and its subchannels.
