It’s official today.

Being that the Scripps ownership is official for the now-former Cordillera stations (e.g., WLEX & KATC), I have to ask: On WLEX (as of today), does the newscast conclude with an in-text copyright mentioning Scripps, or does Scripps’ lighthouse closing animation appear at the end of the newscast, or both???

Has there ever been a daily soap that aired in first run syndication?

Oh, I almost forgot....Swans Crossing, in 1992 (with a young Sarah Michelle Gellar, pre-All My Children & Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, among others, as the lead). This show was targeted toward teens, and aired mostly on the Tribune stations, if I'm not mistaken. Shout! Factory TV has all the episodes available for streaming on its website....

Yes. Rituals in 1984-85. There are at least two promos that are on YouTube (and I think there might be at least 1 episode posted there as well)....

4. Not sure why, but as of last Saturday (2/23), WAFB in Baton Rouge, LA, is no longer available on Cox Cable in Lafayette. Not sure if this is due to a monetary dispute, or if it might be that Gray Television (WAFB's new owner) doesn't want a CBS affiliate in one market broadcasting in another market that already has a CBS station (in this case, Lafayette & KLFY); a sad end of an era, as people in the Lafayette market have been able to catch WAFB for as long as their signal has reached the Lafayette area....

Are there any other examples of Gray-owned stations doing this (i.e., a Gray-owned network affiliate in one market pulling its signal from a cable system in another market that already has an affiliate of said network)????

This is beyond inexplicable. If this was Steve, Dr. Oz or Wendy, I could maybe understand why...but this is still the number one 9am syndicated show. It's outlasted 20+ clones. And you replace it with the same round of roofers and questionable plastic surgeons that pollute the airwaves in other parts of the day? And you shove that show off to a MyNetworkTV affiliate where it leads into...Sister Circle, which has its own completely incompatible audience, and the audience flow just dies even more from there.

They cancelled The 504 a couple years ago; why not bring that back (yeah, it was DOA leading in and out of MyNet, but still)? It seems like a novelty name for the process that Tegna puts their stations through to bring them in line with corporate standards is spreading, and sadly, there's no cure.

If I'm laying down odds, it's 75% Disney-ABC tears up their deal with WWL and bumps to WVUE in September (WDSU's stuck with Today's Third Hour, and WGNO has Wendy and even with a complete Nexstar "Local"ization, that part of the schedule needs no changes).

Let’s not forget that “Live!” has been on WWL since the program’s launch in syndication back in ‘88 with Regis & Kathie Lee. Back then, it aired at 8am, preceding CBS programming at 9a (e.g., the daytime version of “Family Feud” w/Ray Combs, among others), and later, syndicated programming. “Live!” moved to 9a when the morning news expanded into the 8a hour on WWL in 2004, if I’m not mistaken.....

In a move that makes zero sense, WWL-TV will start paid interview hour...err, I mean local lifestyle show Great Day Louisiana Monday 1/21 at 9 a.m., bumping Live with Kelly and Ryan to their sister station WUPL. Great Day Louisiana will follow similar shows on other TEGNA stations, based on the show demo reel that's just clips of other markets.

I guess TEGNA decided they could drag WWL's morning ratings even lower.

I don’t understand this move, either....

But, you know what? Suppose Tegna would have kept the 7-9a portion of Eyewitness Morning News on WWL, in addition to having Great Day Louisiana on at 9a. It would have made, I think, 5 1/2 hours straight of locally produced news/programming in the morning on WWL, and their ratings probably would have been higher, as a result....

I suppose they’ll be the Chet and Nat of Cincinnati.

Or maybe the Garland Robinette & Angela Hill of Cincinnati...

The main difference, however, between the Dardis/Paolello relationship and that of the aforementioned Garland/Angela and Chet/Nat relationships, is that Dardis and Paolello each have children from previous marriages/relationships (info courtesy of the bios on the WLWT website). So there's that....

There's also this, which looks even worse. But it's also a microscopic market compared to DFW.

Wow. I didn’t know about the KOBI/KOTI logo; it is small, but I wouldn’t say it looks worse than KTXA’s logo....

The TXA21 (KTXA - CBS 11 Sister Station) branding is no more... As of today, TXA21 is now Texas 21.

That’s the first time I’ve ever seen a TV station’s logo resemble an interstate sign. There is at least one radio station I know of that has a similar logo (KYKZ-FM in Lake Charles, LA), but their logo utilizes the complete interstate logo design, whereas KTXA’s interstate logo doesn’t.....

10. Not surprised. When you go up against Spanish networks like Telemundo and Univision (whom is having it's own problems up against Telemundo), then you don't have much of a chance to compete. Look at what happened to MundoFOX and that ABC venture whose name escapes me.

Fusion was the name of the ABC venture.

Also, let us not forget that Liberman Broadcasting was the venture behind the infamous Spanish talk show “Jose Luis Sin Censura” (basically the Spanish language version of “Jerry Springer”); that show, if I’m not mistaken, got SEVERAL of Liberman’s stations (if not the entire company) in hot water with the FCC several years ago.....

11. a.k.a., the return of Today's Take.

This may sound hokey, but what is more likely to happen, the 9 a.m. hour anchored by Today anchor/regulars followed by Kathie Lee & Hoda, or Kathie Lee/Hoda at 9a followed by a revamped Today's Take, in some form?

Also, I agree that four hours of Today is too long, but my guess is that NBC doesn't want to shorten the program because they most likely would be losing valuable ad revenue if they did, right?

12. Granite should've been gone already. They ruined WKBW Buffalo to the ground and deserve to be (this is a new term I've made up) in "broadcasting hell."

Since Scripps bought them, have the ratings or audience for WKBW improved?

13. So... it’s The Early Show all over again?

Um, I would hope not!!

This means that there is another lady at the anchor table to give John Dickerson more trouble every morning LOL!! He is now FAR outnumbered (3 females [Gayle, Norah, & Bianna] and 1 male [John Dickerson]!! :D:D:D

Fear not, CBS This Morning is 75 TIMES better than the Early Show ever was throughout its run, for many reasons (too many to list here)!!

14.

If you're wondering why so many Hearst stations have primetime newscasts on freakin' MeTV

Now what's wrong with MeTV??? It's a GREAT place for classic TV shows (on free TV, no less)!! It's also an opportunity for stations to make extra money (in my market, local ads run throughout the day on the channel)....

Just saying....

15. That's not really how that works. First off, NXT is not the brand, it's a graphic that's a stylized shortening of the word "next". Second, whatever trademark WWE has for "NXT" would be limited to wrestling. In fact, since I found it, the registrations WWE has for "NXT" are essentially limited to merchandise related to the league and wrestling broadcasts on TV and online.

A quick search of the US Trademark database lists 200+ trademarks using "NXT" (including at least six that are exclusively the letters "NXT") as trademarks for things like

• Artificial turf

• Sports drinks enhanced with minerals; Sports drinks, namely, performance drinks; Sports drinks, namely, recovery drinks

• Retail store services featuring manufactured homes

• management of multi-tenant living facilities

• Vacuum cleaners and vacuum cleaner parts

• Semiconductor lithographic machines, namely, lithographic machines used to manufacture semiconductors, and structural parts therefor

• Water treatment equipment, namely, water filtration units.

• Electric battery fast chargers

TL;DR There's nothing stopping them from using a graphic that says "NXT" in promos.

Thank you for the info, Weeters; apparently NXT must be popular among trademarks (ha ha ha)!! :D:D

16. Ah, yes... “NXT on #HTownRush...”

Unfortunately, NXT is the name of the developmental league for WWE (i.e., a place for up-and-coming wrestlers and those just starting out to hone their craft in terms of promos, in-ring ability, and the like), so Tegna cannot use NXT in promos.....

But they’ll find something more creative (this is Tegna we’re talking about, after all).....

17. Here's why: KVUE is #1 in the mornings in Austin. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. That's the only time period where they consistently beat KXAN. WFAA meanwhile is typically 3rd in the mornings in Dallas and KHOU slides back and forth between 3rd and 4th place in the Houston morning news race.

I'm curious: If KHOU is 3rd or sometimes 4th in the morning in Houston, what other station in the market would be #2 at the time (behind KTRK)??

18. From Mayra, The 3pm show will be a half hour. J! is moving to 1pm. Millonaire at 1:30. IE stays at 3:30pm.

1pm?! "Jeopardy"?! In the 10th largest market (Houston)????

19. ....At 3. p. m. Why though? o_O

Looking at WPLG’s schedule (via TitanTV), « Dr. Oz » currently runs there, so my guess is the show is moving to a new station in the Miami market, either due to low ratings for WPLG or maybe contractual/monetary issues....

20. Sorry meant to say they're already taking members away from The View to help GMA projects.

By "members," I think you mean people behind the scenes who work on The View. I am sure there are people behind the scenes at GMA who also work (or have worked) on World News Tonight, The View, and Nightline, since all are ABC News-produced programs.

21. GMA Day is a title clearly come up with at 4:59pm on a holiday Friday by some intern who had no idea what the branding manager wanted them to do, and is shockingly horrid.

Wait until Jimmy Kimmel finds out about this quote LOL!! :D
