What's this!? Another KOVR surprise — a piece of a noon newscast from November 15, 1988, using a news theme I've never heard. Is this related to EarWitness News?

 

And how about THIS?

Ow, that is one cheap look for 1997...then again it is Park. The MG standardization was one heck of an upgrade for several of his stations...

And yet Park dumped tons of resources into its Virginia outlets...

 

Posting this because KSL is legit one of the best TV stations ever.

Urk. I recall when that WHBQ open first got posted we all agreed KCRA’s take on it was better.

 

However I do believe WHBQ had more than just 6pm & 10pm. A YT user named Shaun Fossett (who was a member on this site back in the day) told me they had a morning newscast (2 hour) and a noon newscast (half hour). They also had a 5pm news at some point too. But still, WHBQ was a market laggard. Which is why I ain’t doing Memphis news opens...

Well, someone need to let compubit (JRD) know that he's posting newscasts on YT without his permission.

While I assemble my KSTU compilation, here’s a clip I stumbled upon from early 2005(?) This was definitely the last package they used “News Source” with.

I’ve got one too - why WSTM chose MCTYW in 1993 when that theme became dated is beyond me. Keep it in Pennsylvania folks!

ID Junkie's compliation of WEAR-TV..even though its Sinclair..they have had some great stuff certainly considering how unique of a station it is.

I love WEAR too. Their Hummingbird theme is still beautiful. I love any theme that is saxophone driven.

 

Btw just looked on the internet archive and it appears there’s tons of Richmond VA stuff I skipped over - Probably cause my screen recorder audio doesn’t work when I play videos not from an app.

I mean, their corporate partner to the north *is* KRQE.

 

That logo fits.

Shame they don’t livestream - my current montage from them is out of date.

Why infamous?

 

WMC in my opinion is the Memphis market’s only saving grace, I hate the rest of the stations... especially how crappy WHBQ was in the early 90s.

Someone commented on my KATU news open video and said the news theme shown here was also used on Channel in the UK back in the 1970s. I sense this is production music.

My first new TV market that I'll be doing a compilation on will be Birmingham, and first off is the #1 station in that market, WBRC.

I found old news opens from KTVX's old days (when they had different call letters) from their website. The NMSA already has them, but I decided to upload the news opens to YouTube.

 

I wonder if they’ll upload any 80s opens? Thanks for that - this’ll make SLC easier for me.

I also want to see some more WTVR from the late 90s when they were under the Media General/Raycom transition. Aside from this video there were plenty of NMSA samples of them using “The One and Only” on there. Were there some other opens on YT at one point or something?

Also I’m trying to decide on what to do for a Virginia compilation - should I do Richmond or Norfolk? Or both? I really love both markets and have been there too. My speculation is that KTSP debuted that set whenever Karen Carns jumped ship from KTVX in ‘89. Which just makes me wish I was watching that station in 1989 instead...

Should the NMSA change this theme from KTNV 1987 to (maybe) WBRZ 1983? The actual WBRZ 1983 on there I think was first used at WFSB. I know the Discovered Music Composers thread has had a discussion on this before.

 

Also, not next time, but in the future, I might do Salt Lake City compilations. If I can pull off videos from rare markets like Albany or Fort Myers I can do them. Plus I love SLC news so much...

A KPTV open pops up at the end of this compilation, using similar GFX to sister station KTVX at the time. Really nicely done, I’d say. Who designed those?

 

Going back even earlier to 1996 at the end of this video KPTV used an open from 1991 (maybe 1992?) and lasted it until ‘96.
