Seems like MSNBC is cutting back programming on weekend mornings... According to TVPassport and MSNBC.com/schedule, starting from this Saturday (December 4th), the 6AM live hour will be replaced by a repeat of "Zerlina" from The Choice Peacock channel. The 7AM hour is also renamed "MSNBC Reports" rather then "Reiser and Gibson Report" so maybe they have stepped down from their duties. This arrangement occurs for the following week's schedule too so I think it's not something temporary...

Just noticed this. Lindsey Riser was filling in this afternoon and said "I'll see you again tomorrow morning at 7am" so she's still there, but I'm not sure about Kendis Gibson, they've really under utilized him since he joined MSNBC.

Side note: Lindsey Riser is 26 weeks pregnant, I wonder who will be filling in for her? Hopefully she can continue to come into 30 Rock with increasing COVID risks.

Cuomo now under indefinite suspension. This year, the 23rd falls on a Thursday, leaving it or Christmas Eve perfect for an inevitable firing via news dump.

He needs to go, along with Jeff Zucker and Brian Stelter - who really stuck his neck out for Chris, especially with the whole "many people here understand why he (Chris) did what he did, plus his office is several floors above the newsroom...".as if location of someones office would prevent them from controlling/interfering with coverage. And who could forget "if we open up the journalism ethics book, there's no rule for this" (referring to Chris not covering Andrews accusations). Can't wait to hear what Zucker's fiction writers come up with for Brian to say Sunday and somehow defend all of this making Chris look good.

I hope Jake Tapper takes over the time slot, if not him maybe an external hire would be best.

Clearly CNN needs new leadership and some cleaning.

  3. I would just like to express how sad I am about Brian leaving and yes I do mean sad. Brian was my hero as a kid and the reason I got into to journalism, I never missed Nightly and never miss The 11th Hour.

Sad to see him leaving after 28 years, he certainly had a great career and made a huge impact on people and journalism as a whole.

And on the other side of this story - who takes over "The 11th Hour" or do the scrap it and start anew?  Or does "Top Story with Tom Llamas" switch to MSNBC?  As another long-running NBC program would say - Like sands through the hourglass...  Got a little ahead of myself (or rather ahead of BW himself) Well said closing thoughts, Brian.  Best Wishes!!!

I’m hoping it’s Chris Jansing, she deserves it and has been filling in recently. Brian made it sound like The 11th Hour will be sticking around but with a new host staring in the new year. I’d say Chris Jansing, Jacob Soboroff and Alicia Menendez are probably front runners for his replacement.

As for top story with Tom, that would be a better placed at 10pm when Lawrence retires IMO.
Lots of change still to come at MSNBC.

On this morning’s show Peter Alexander said that they were broadcasting from the second floor because work was being done on Studio 1A.

YES! I was holding out hoping they'd be doing some work. I'm assuming Clickspring is doing the new MSNBC Studio 3A (which appears to be nearly finished), might as well just roll right across the street to 1A. It'll be interesting to see what they do, if it's a full gut job or just tweaks again, considering NBC is using 1A for election coverage and major pre-planned events, will they specifically build the new set with those things in mind and make it more flexible for non Today Show use? I also expect updates to the upstairs set specifically for "Today All Day" and the 4th Hour's needs.

  5. Does anyone else wonder if Studio 1A is receiving some updates? I only saw the first 3 hours this morning and all of it was outside. I wouldn’t expect a major redo but updating the tracking panels, tweaks to the 2nd floor and figuring out what to do with the video wall covering the orange room is very realistic.

  6. You guys beat me to it.

I assumed CNN's plan was to move MXP to CNN+, they could air the main 4 hours live (til 10A ET) and then air 1 or 2 hours of the "updated" version like HLN use to do with the show pre pandemic. Jennifer Westhoven (covers business), Mesllisa Knowles (covers entertainment) could either host their own shows or contribute to others. HLN recently started new promos celebrating Robin Meade's 20th year anchoring a national morning newscast, touting it's long history and friendly, familiar faces, that could help promote a move to CNN+. One more thing, True Crime Live with Mike Galanos hasn't been on since early last year and Lynn Smith who hosted On The Story left the network and news all together recently after her show was sidelined as well.

Could WarnerMedia turn HLN into Turner's designated sports channel (mainly in primetime) now that they have the NHL? Considering HLN is in over 91.1 million households (more than 94.9 percent of pay television subscribers) in the United States, making it the most distributed American subscription network. I'm not saying go full on NBCSN style, but if they are looking for more viewers it's not a bad idea to put it on a channel everyone has. Although leaving it the murder-obsessed channel is it will make them plenty of money.

Maybe Shepard can take over for Brian on msnbc at 11. After all he never had any major scandals.

I think Brian wants to work a little longer. I kinda just assumed that Shep would be Lawrence O'Donnell's replacement as he will be 70 in November, Shep could have Rachel for a lead in and would hand over to Brian which is more news/analysis anyways, if he replaced Lawrence at 10pm.

  8. For those of you interested in what NBC 10 Boston has done, I've uploaded 3 different opens.

IMO, The 4:30 open looks the best, I'm not a fan of the tease graphics used at 5, and for "The Ten", the concept is a good one but I was expecting it to be 10 minuets straight of a local story, not a random feature story that doesn't have any apparent local connection, I'm surprised they didn't go with a full half hour of tradition news at 7 like other O&O's are or even something like KARE 11's "Breaking The News"...

NBC 10 Boston News at 4:30PM Open.

NBC 10 Boston News at 5PM, Breaking News Open.

NBC 10 Boston News "The Ten" at 7PM Open.

    Here's the article

So now that only leaves one hour of Prime before Banfield.

No surprise to see Leland getting a show, the "On Balance" immediately made me think of the "Fair & Balanced" branding his former employer used, not a big fan of the "Rush Hour" branding either. Anyone else wondering if Prime's days are numbered? and if so what would they do with Rob and Marni?

Phil Griffin leaving as head of MSNBC, to be replaced by Rashida Jones:

Good for Rashida, Let the changes begin.....
Also, did everyone else see the NBC News app alert for her? That’s awesome.

  11. “I think a lot of people will be devastated if he does leave the network, and are concerned that you won’t be able to find someone with his leadership style to fill that role.”

Exactly what style of "leadership" does he provide? Outside of NYC what employees will be sad to see him go? If CNN returns to news after the mess he's created, that will be a welcomed change.

I feel bad for Brooke. I think she has more longevity on CNN compared to Kate or Brianna.

I've said before that Zucker is the main problem with why CNN is going downhill. The whole yelling panels haven't worked. As for all new anchors, I would really hate to see staples like Wolf Blitzer and Anderson Cooper leave, although Wolf will probably retire in 5 years or less. (he says he's not ready yet). I think Erin Burnett is better for financial news and always thought she was better at CNBC. I know many people think Jake Tapper should have been the permanent host for "This Week" 10 years ago. Chris Cuomo seems burned out but wants to stay at CNN. I'm not sure about what Don Lemmon would do, maybe anchor at MSNBC.

I wish AT&T would realize that Zucker has ruined nearly everything he's touched in his career and force him to resign, but instead they let him run all of their sports broadcasting divisions too. I'm not sure if he's ruined those assets too.

I honestly love Wolf and Anderson but I really wonder if they would be able to breakaway from the yelling panels, return to real news and drop the politics. Erin is/was better at business news. And let's be honest, Chris wouldn't have been moved to primetime if trump didn't win, he's good at arguing, yelling and hyping things up but that's what CNN wanted to increase ratings. I really like the people you mentioned but I don't know if they'll be able to return to real news.

Zucker's got to go, the sports division is big money, only a matter of time before he ruins that.

Not as daytime or US-centric, but Natalie Allen bid goodbye to CNN on Sunday after 20 years to begin reporting on climate change on her new venture. The timing seems so odd. Politics are clearly at the center of conversation at this time, but it'd really be amazing to have more CNN International-style Newsroom and programming return/increase. Not that the network has really done better with its polarizing nature, but the days of when Isha and Errol were regulars, which weren't even that long ago, already feel like last century. At this point, I'm just wondering when John Vause, Rosemary Church, or even George Howell are exiting.

I really don't understand Brooke's demotion. She's been pretty much a staple at this point, and she explicitly said in an Instagram comment that her hiatus was not her choice, so I'm wondering if she might actually choose to leave as we move into the next year(s). I doubt Zucker is really this genuinely charitable, but I can understand wanting to nurture Brianna and Kate's profiles more, especially if they've recently been viral here and there with some of their moments on their shows.

Natalie Allen was a big loss even for U.S. viewers. I was surprised John didn't leave after what happened with Isha, he loved LA. Sadly George already left CNN (though they still have his bio online),  George announced he was leaving CNN on February 29, 2020 and I don't blame him, similar to Isha he said he was dissatisfied with the direction CNN has gone, they were both tired of talking about trump and politics all day, everyday, non-stop while other stories were ignored.

I feel bad for Brooke but I'm not surprised, no one is better at creating viral, click-bait, shareable moments than Kate (especially Kate) and Brianna. Brooke was once a great newsroom anchor and has sadly been forced to cover all this politics crap and it has essentially ruined her reputation which is why she won't be able to leave CNN, she's too associated with the network and its toxic format.

Jeff Zucker is the problem at CNN/CNNI/HLN, he has single handedly ruined something that was once untouchable. The "politics as sports", constant breaking news, the spin, opinion, talk and biased pundits all while claiming to be impartial and "the most trusted name in news" is ridiculous. The never ending D.C. and NYC focus is exhausting, I live in the midwest and couldn't care less about what happens there. It's time to blow the network up and start over, all new anchors and a return to real news (what made CNN successful), and base broadcasts in Atlanta, NYC, LA and Washington (if needed). They created this toxic news cycle and broadcast style, they can certainly end it.

Jeff Zucker needs to go and should never be employed in broadcast media again. It's a shame AT&T can't see who he really is, or they just don't care.

    Just my two cents.

So far, it's way more interesting to watch than News Nation. I'm liking what I see!

WAY better than NewsNation. It was so great to see Shep again, something of normalcy. Shepard said he will be moving to his new set soon. I love everything except the graphics, they don't look like something NBCArtWorks would normally do, awkward lower thirds and huge CNBC logo just looks weird to me.

My TV guide states Weekends with Alex Witt expands to 3 hours. Also MSNBC Live on weekends now are title with anchor names again.

Same on my guide. Glad to see Kendis and Lindsey together in the morning, I'm surprised they didn't brand those 2 hours. Now they just need to figure out a replacement for AMJoy and the schedule will be set. I still wish they'd give Richard Lui an MSNBC Live slot from 10p-Midnight ET on weekends but that's wishful thinking.

It feels like a demotion for Ali IMHO

Actually Ali requested the move and has said "I love it". He teaches during the week in Philadelphia which is why he wanted to move to weekends, I was hoping they would let him anchor from the new Comcast Center in Philly but we probably won't ever see that.

I wonder if they will expand Alex Witt to 3 hours or put David Gura or Richard Lui at the 2pm hour

scratch David Gura is he still with MSNBC/NBC just noticed on this twitter bio that the MSNBC-NBC News reference is gone now.

I wondered that too, cost wise it would make sense to give it to Alex since her show is so popular but I'm gonna bet it stays rotating.

According to David Gura's LinkedIn he is still with NBCU News Group, they've really underused him in so many ways. His weekend show "UP" was great, I love Ali Velshi but that wasn't the best spot for him, I'm surprised David hasn't made his way over to CNBC since he came from Bloomberg.

I figured the "NBCUniversal News Group President" would know if David was still around! 😉😂

  18. New changes coming to MSNBC early weekday mornings and weekend line up.

    • Morning Joe will be getting a new lead in, Way Too Early With Kasie Hunt starts September 21st at 5 am ET (M-F), she will anchor from D.C.
    • Because of that change Yasmin Vossoughian will move to weekends and host MSNBC Live on Saturdays and Sundays in NYC from 3-5 pm ET.
    • On September 19th MSNBC will debut American Voices With Alicia Menendez, from 6-8 pm. ET, followed by The Week With Joshua Johnson, from 8-10 pm ET, both new shows will originate from NYC and will be on every Saturday and Sunday.

This Sunday will be the final episode of KasieDC.

They will now have an open hour from 2-3 pm ET.

These are smart changes especially the new weekend shows, they have really been promoting Alicia recently. I was hoping they'd put Joshua on weekdays .

I wish they would give Richard Lui an MSNBC Live slot from 10 pm-12 am ET on weekends for those of us out West.

I don't think CBS affiliates would go for an already floundering network newscast @ 10pm leading into their local news @ 10:30 or 11.  I hope you all remember the 10pm  "Jay Leno Show" debacle years ago.  If full on production of primetime gets to be a problem, give the affiliates the 10pm slot for local news and run the revamped "CBS News Tonight @ 10:30" (or whatever they want to call it & anchored by someone besides Norah)  and then the  "Late Show w/Colbert" at 11.  That also gives Colbert a jump start on Fallon & Kimmel.

Overall, it's gonna be a tough sell for Viacom/CBS to give up an hour of primetime $$$$$$ @ 10 for this kind of experiment.

Just wanna make myself clear, they wouldn't be giving up an hour of primetime shows, they would be placing a 30 min newscast as soon as the 3 hour primetime ends, so either 10 or 11 depending on the market since primetime begins at 7 or 8 depending on where you live. They would still get plenty of advertising money. Also 10:30 / 11:30 would work too.
