KKTV made the switch back on 4/4.. Interestingly enough, the CBS eye has not been removed... for now....

It makes me wonder if Gray is now starting reconsider its "no-network-in-station-logo" mandate, considering that...

    1. Regarding stations with no network logo since the "mandate" started: 99.5% of NBC affiliates, half of the CBS affiliates, 1.5% of ABC affiliates, and no Fox affiliates (and this is without counting duopolies).... and it's been stuck this way since February.
    2. And since then, the rollout of GrayONE seems to have slowed down to a crawl, where station launches were much more frequent before then.
    3. And going back to bullet #1, now KKTV is keeping the CBS eye in their logo despite being the latest to switch to GrayONE only two weeks ago (as of this writing).

Going slightly off-topic: WXIX has been starting to use the new GrayONE weather background behind its 7-day forecasts since at least last week. Screengrab is from last night's 11PM news.

  2. And potentially split up Paramount and CBS yet again should this deal go through...

    Quote

"The reported m.o. for Allen would be to sell the Paramount film studio, real estate and IP. He would keep the linear networks, plus Paramount+ and operate the streamer more efficiently (Good luck with that)."

^^^ That quote is from the Deadline article.

This is how I can tell WLEX is using the scrippscast. The peacock isn't in color. No temperature either.

    WLEX-CAST.jpg

WCPO uses their normal time/temp bug at 4:00 (that would be the top image). Not sure about WLEX, but WCPO's 4:00 show appears to be at least 30% live, 70% Scrippscast, so maybe that's why?

  4. Cincinnati media blogger John Kiesewetter did a piece on Scripps' pre-taped autopilot newscasts, particularly WCPO's 4PM shows: https://www.wvxu.org/media/2023-11-01/wcpo-tv-news-shows-scrippscast-tvkiese

So apparently, they're using proprietary technology (!) called "Scrippscast" to do this. To me, it basically just sounds like glorified control room automation that's designed to cut costs and nothing more.

Regarding WCPO, it's just their 4PM newscasts and their weekly FC Cincinnati sports show* using the "Scrippscast" software at the moment, but the article mentions that their Saturday 11PM newscasts will be next to go the mostly-anchorless route. And according to their news director (quoted at the end of the article), possibly more...

*I should also point out that FC Cincinnati Weekly looked more-or-less like a traditional sports chat show, complete with pre-taped packages, last I checked.

Curious to see what Gray's plans for the station [WBQC-LD] are.... Could Telemundo Cincinnati be in the future?   Maybe even something related to 3.0.  it's basically been a subchannel repository for the last decade or so after losing out on the CW to WKRC 12.2.

Actually, I just caught a promo for Telemundo Cincinnati which is, indeed, on WBQC 25.1. https://www.telemundocincinnati.com/

According to Wikipedia, they made the switch two weeks ago on July 27.

  6. Okay, so I was able to tally up what we're dealing with this fall...

    Monday

Scripted CW originals (one moving over from AMC)

    Tuesday

International imports (Canadian and British; sourced from CTV, CBC and Channel 4)

    Wednesday

International imports (Canadian; both sourced from CTV)

    Thursday

Unscripted originals (FBoy Island; moving from HBO Max)

    Friday & Saturday

Unscripted CW originals (all returning from 2022 season, one of which (World's Funniest Animals) I'm assuming is a clip show)

    Sunday

"Family viewing night" (starting with the 'I Am' film franchise, whatever that is)

**Are those Canadian/British imports already available on streaming here in the states?

**Also, what happened to the NASCAR docuseries?

I'd like the logo better with the white border (those colors will get camouflaged at some points in promos.) I really don't like the new font.

I'd like the logo better with the white border as well. Yet, I must be honest: I love the new logo typeface. I did my take on what the current logo should've looked like.

Actually, there might be some hope on that: During telecasts of the NFL Playoffs, the bug on the top right corner was refreshed. And it looks like the new peacock design, but with a white border added; so there may be some applications where the border will stay intact.

Looks like WTVQ is rolling out a newer "modified" logo and bringing back the "On Your Side" slogan. I personally would've like to seen Newschannel brought back as well.

    TVQ.png

Where did you find this? Is this real?

I'm asking because can't find this supposed "new" logo ANYWHERE. It's not on WTVQ's website, any of their social media pages, nor their FCC public file. Not only that, but a reverse image search turns up nothing.

  9. Vivid Zero added the new O&O weather graphics to their gallery: https://vividzero.com/work/abc-weather/

Considering that nothing else outside of the weather elements have shown up anywhere, plus Vivid Zero has put up a gallery of what's already made it to air, could this mean that the long-rumored new O&O look is just standardized weather graphics and that the "much more to come on this project" simply means that the rest of the O&Os will be adopting it soon???

  10. Came across this gem...

    http://www.hopesandfears.com/hopes/now/media/214739-illuminati-conspiracy-news-hidden

So, there was a designer who was employed by a conglomerate and did graphics for its stations, and for some reason he decided to hide cult symbols in some of those graphics.

The station group in question was not named, but if you connect the dots in the article, you may be able to figure who it was...

    Spoiler

And, in a major move, local newscasts will no longer originate from KCBS-2. Instead, that station will simulcast KCAL-9 newscasts as part of a bigger plan to make KCAL, once the home of the legendary Jerry Dunphy and Pat Harvey, a player in the L.A. news race for the first time in more than two decades.

OK, I know the "let's make the secondary station more prominent than the primary station where newscasts are based at" thing has been done before elsewhere (remember FOX45 News on ABC22 in Dayton?). But it doesn't make any sense here. KCBS is the West Coast flagship of CBS with the combined 2/9 news operation that will be named CBS News Los Angeles, except now it will originate from KCAL, the independent station, while KCBS, the West Coast flagship of CBS, will be relegated to secondary status.

If this isn't the definition of @$$-backwards management, I don't know what is.

I have seen somewhere else (perhaps on this site) that a company called TAG made the ring graphics. Does anybody know what TAG stands for? And if TAG did not make it, might it have been made in-house?

After some digging, TAG did make the 2003/04 "ring" graphics, http://web.archive.org/web/20071017021506/http://www.t-a-g.com/portfolio/onair_hearst.html

Unfortunately, the video does not work. (Not sure if it was a demo reel or just a compilation of WESH using it, the link on their home page suggests the latter.)

Three months after Marquee acquired the station, Zanesville, Ohio's WHIZ is adding Fox on its subchannel 18.2 on November 14.

Apparently, the folks at WHIZ forgot that FOX was split up from 20th Century (Fox) Studios (0:28 in the video). And the new station's logo is what happens when you combine the Fox O&O boxkite logos (specifically WNYW/WTTG/WAGA), The 2013 Tribune/Fox boxkite logos, and the Fox News Channel logo all into one.
