Yeah I remember when Unc said that he was insane for saying that he’ll buy the network,  especially that he just about owns a station in the same market of all 8 ABC O&Os. Just imagine LA NY, Raleigh, San Francisco having to beat against your competitor and be under the same ownership.

Due to the 2 of the top 4 rule, Nexstar would have to spin-off a station in Fresno and Raleigh, and the FCC just ruled that it's already over the overall cap in NYC, but there aren't any rules against buying the other stations.

Don't worry, Perry -- Rand Paul is coming to your rescue!

Shouldn't they be referring to him as Senator Paul?

I hope the bill crashes and burns. All it would do is help Nexstar, SInclair, and Gray gobble up more broadcasters, leaving smaller broadcasters such as Hearst and Graham (and smaller) unable to acquire stations because they keep getting outbid.

It has no chance in the current Senate.

    It's complicated.

The CW / Nexstar could ask cable companies in Detroit to put stations like WLAJ-DT2 in Lansing, Michigan, WBSF in Bay City (Michigan Thumb), or WTVG-DT2 in Toledo, Ohio.

They could also launch their own cable-only station with the Plus feed and have someone handle advertising.

The Pacific Northwest. Everywhere else, I don't know.

In reality, this wisp of a conference has a scheduling alliance with the Mountain West and will be eligible for their championship game. (Just making sure everybody's on the same page as to the actual contents of this TV package.)

Why haven't they remapped the PSIP to a UHF signal? It's the Deleware Valley for crying out loud and cable is dying. Fewer people will be watching PVI if they aren't subscribed to cable and can't watch OTA. Even Comcast knows this basic.

Do they even have the legal ability to do that?

Goes into effect April 1st. They're running commercials for it in Albany, not posting about it online though.

The listings for that day show no change (haven't been updated yet?)

He gonna fight to keep Detroit and New York because there crucial CW markets.

Given that the CW is already on WMYD, I don't think Nexstar is going to do any fighting as far as WADL is considered.

  8. All the stations that Nexstar and Mission own in the other markets have been ruled to effectively be duopolies. Are any of these now in violation of the existing (if relaxed) duopoly rules?

WHDH does well since Sunbeam Television, its owner, historically does a great job and has a strong following. What WBTS (Comcast) did was to bypass them and install their own NBC Channel 10 (Really Channel 8 ) on a lower powered CD station. The viewers in the market have reacted adversely to this station and it has the lowest ratings in the market, allowing all other stations (including WSBK and WBZ CBS) better ratings. Being late to the party and rude about it will get you no favors.

The WBTS facility is licensed as a Class A digital, but it is actually transmitting on spectrum leased from WGBX, the full-power secondary station owned by WGBH, the PBS station in town, so over-the-air coverage is not an issue.

  10. All told, a number of satellite viewers are going to be stuck watching the Super Bowl either on OTA or the Nickelodeon broadcast. (Surprised the CBS affiliate body allowed Nick to cut in on their biggest day in 4 years.)

Since all the episodes are available on-demand lately it's probably more that than anything rather than CBS mob-tacting them; at the end of the day it's yet another 'if you haven't seen it, it's new to you' syndicated package that fills an easy hour and captures the audience which doesn't want to deal with Freevee. And it certainly isn't original content in 2024.

What is CBS going to do, take away their Dr. Phil reruns? No, not the Dr. Phil reruns from 2018 we air at 4am anyways that OWN and Pluto also air and will clog Merit Street soon, please don't take those. 😐

They could take away new J!/WOF, Drew Barrymore, and the news magazines, but that's about it.

And it'll be interesting to see where Nexstar's equivalent deal with KAZT actually goes.

The action isn't against Nexstar but specifically Mission, and the Loudens haven't had these issues.
