general thread NBC Sports/NBCSN/Golf Channel/NBC RSNs Thread
MediaZone4K replied to WCAUTVNBC10's topic in Sport Center
I like the idea of trimming the bundle bloat so that so that we get stronger quality rather than high quantity cable channels. For instance, just BET and MTV alone with the best of each other's relevant programming, and the return of some niche aspects that made each channel great to begin with. -
The Ever-Evolving Gray Graphics Situation...Thread
MediaZone4K replied to NEOMatrix's topic in Graphics
I would like to see this old/new blend trend happen! Wish stations could add their own spin on the corporate graphics to add a nice balance between uniqueness and uniformity. -
Its a new year -- one year since the huge political breakdown that was January 6th --and cable news, CNN more specifically, remains in a hyper partisan state. With the prospect of Jeff Zucker leaving sometime in the near future, do you all think we'll ever get past this overly political version of CNN? I have my doubts especially given the possibly of a third Trump run in 2024.
-
Lets see what this means. Less partisan I hope. I liked the early to mid 2000s era of MSNBC (when they were the news source on the MSN home page). Thats when the network had opinionated analysis, particularly in primetime, but still had a strong news presence. Their New Jersey studio beat any modern set in cable news.

New Years Day mix Today, NBC, first day of the 90s, (1/1/90) Today, first day of the millennium, (1/1/00) CBS Evening News, the 80s begins! (1/1/80)

I wonder why he left WNBC?

Interesting to see Tony Aiello anchoring the morning news!

It was cool seeing Dana on the 11 again, with Dick Brenan especially. I always wonder why they left Dana solo at 6pm, and didn't pair her with Dick. I really don't think it's anything too serious but Christmas vacation staff shortages. I suppose people think something's off because Dana being the senior talent is working multiple newscasts on Christmas Eve Eve. Reguardless, it's good to see old school veteran anchors getting airtime outside of the usual 6'o'clock.
-
Was thinking before seeing this that the current work-from-home possibilities will now give the some of anchors the advantage of not having to come into the studio on Christmas.

Most cable systems I've used only have CNN and HLN, in the basic package at least. I'm saying do away with HLN and put CNN I on basic cable.
-
While we're at it can we eighty-six HLN and perhaps replace it with an American feed of CNN International.

Chris Wallace is leaving Fox News for the new streaming service CNN+. About time. I will say Chris was one of the more balanced hosts at FNC -- along with Shepard Smith -- as they weren't afraid to diverge from the network narrative. I was surprised to find out he was an NBC and ABC news anchor in the past upon looking at old news clips online, and I liked what I saw. As for CNN+, I get that screaming is the new wave but IMO CNN needs to improve their actual tv network. Furthermore how long will this era of streaming services overkill last? https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/12/12/media/chris-wallace-leaving-fox-news/index.html

I would like this. Sounding like a broken record but, CBS has tried a number of things to help itself in the evening and morning only to remain in last place. If Bri Wi were to go to the eye network I think that'd have to be coupled with some sort of formatting change. Perhaps increased international hard news aside from COVID, and calming the overuse of "breaking news". All three evening (and morning) national newscasts seem to cover the same thing so differentiation *MIGHT* help CBSEN. Otherwise he'd just be another face trying the same thing. Even if CBSEN still remains in third, Williams with his grand narrative style and commanding presence would be a more stable presence than Norah and the revolving door of other lead anchors since Schiffer's departure. As much as like Lester, I do think the pacing, and anchor delivery of NNN were better under Bri Wi.
-
That's fair. I will say in Couric's case though she was better suited for morning television, plus she tried a softer approach than hard news the program was known for. Williams who actually hosted the top evening newscast might move the needle a bit.

Some of ABC's 80s style promos during Facts of Life/ Different Strokes live re-enacments:

Wouldn't mind this at all. So longs as the agenda pushing is absent or kept at a minimum and politics aren't the only focus. I really wish we could get more international coverage from the American networks here in the states, especially on these 24/7 cable channels. Forgiving that stain on his career, this wouldn't be half bad at all. CBS needs outside talent for a big name lead anchor.

Indeed. On the flip side I cant take CNN and MSNBC's obsessive focus on Trump and the right either. I thought it would die down after he left office but MSNBC especially is still laser focused on the ramifications of the January 6th rihots.

(1990)Classic ABC News promo featuring most of the network's big shot anchors. Wish Charlie Gibson and Joan Lunden could have made it in too. The successive deaths of the Soviet Union's leaders in just 3 years: CBS Evening News (1982): Leonid Brezhnev's death CBS Evening News (1984): Yuri Andropov's death CBS Evening News (1985): Konstantin Chernenko's death, Gorbachev becomes leader

Today Show (2003): Allied forces take over Baghdad: CNN (2002): End of Ground Zero cleanup ceremony. Was surprised to find the exact date the tragic site was finally cleared:

Makes sense, I even notice that programing guides isolate the 6am block on most stations instead of listing it as one big 4/4:30-7am block. Was thinking the same. Oji, Marisol and Ben could soely take over the 10am hour since it's all fluff and GDNY isn't on the air as competition at that time. But, if Dan and Hazel haven't complained then no issue.
-
So Dan and Hazel will be anchoring from 6-11am now according to the new promo. I'm sure they want to push the main morning anchor duo but John & Kirstin from 4-7, then Dan & Hazel from 7-11 would be a more even split.

I get your point. I've always wondered if drivers really pay attention to traffic reports on tv, especially in this digital age. But then I also question the same for tv weather reports. Outside of big storms like blizzards and hurricanes, does the average viewer take the time to sit down and watch the extended forecast or do they just google "7 day forecast"? But weather reports definitely top traffic updates in terms of audience relevance, IMO.
