I feel like Bill never reached that icon status of other news men like Bill Butel, Roger Grimsby, Jim Jensen, and Chuck Scarborough. I think part of it was because by the time Bill took the helm at WABC their anchors were treated an ensemble with no one team standing out above the rest. Another long time anchor I'd say that about is WNBC's David Ushery.

I suppose this is a question for the Ellisons--- but what financial sense does it make for Skydance to destroy its own entity? Steve Kroft speaking out on PBS Newshour.

if I can pay the old graphics a compliment, I like that they weren't flat. The early HD era lower thirds were not great, however. The new graphics look pretty good, but I wish the lower thirds weren't 2-D. Hopefully this trend eases up by the 2030s. Sidenote, I like that the main anchor desk shot is not in front of a video wall, that really sets it apart from most other local new sets in the country

It's painful to see arguably the best but most struggling network news organization in this country reduced to a heaping pile of of . What is the goal here? I know the rightward turn is to appease the Trump administration, but doesn't it affect their bottom line if their news department loses ratings??? Are are any conservatives actually turning CBS News----are they aware of the editorial change? It doesn't make sense to destroy your base viewership to chase an audience you probably won't get. It's one thing to mess with the long time failure CBS Evening News but it's another to play with their bread and butter---60 Minutes, and (not yet) Sunday Morning.

Not sure if this is posted already with some changes in Albany, NY. WTEN is launching 10 AM lifestyle show "Upstate Living", co-hosted by former WRGB anchor Ann McCloy. The show will replace the timeslot vacated by Sherri Shepherd. Ann is the second ex CBS 6 talent NEWS 10 ABC has poached next to meteorologist Alyssa Caroprese. WRGB got their lick back by hiring one of WTEN's reporters to be their weekend anchor. WNYT is also launching "Capital Region Lifestyle" at 11AM hosted by their morning news anchors. Down in Jacksonville...WJAX will now simulcast WFOX's 4:30 AM half hour of Action News Jax This Morning, pushing "CBS News Mornings" back to 4AM. Previously WFOX carried the entire morning show from 4:30 to 9 AM, with WJAX only simulcasting 5 to 7 AM before CBS Mornings. The only odd scheduling they have left is airing Action News Jax at 4 PM on Fox 30 only, but not on CBS 47. Uniquely WFOX and WJXT only air a half hour rather than full hour newscast at 4p.

WESH 2 celebrates their anniversary and giving a detailed look back at their logo changes.

15 years!!! I remember watching the end of Oprah live. WABC's stellar afternoon lineup really took a hit with the cancellations of All My Children, One Life to Live, and Oprah's ending. A testament to the stability of WABC that the same anchor team is still in place at 4:00.

If so great! Michael and Darlene are (if I'm correct) are the longest running AM anchor pairing in the market currently. Grew up watching them!

The grand dames of Channel 4 (WNBC 1990). Sue Simmons, Pat Harper, Carol Jenkins all in one video, followed by a cool montage of New York City.

My favorite tv logo as well. Never realized each color had a meaning. Wow! Thank you for sharing.

In newsrooms I've heard anchors complain about that. A three hour newscast is definitely ideal with two anchors for voice resting and bathroom breaks.

Don't know if anyone posted it here yet but evening anchor John Brown will be returning to Good Day Orlando to fill Ryan Elijah's spot. No word yet on who John's evening successor will be. It's not often you see someone enthusiastic to go from evening hours (a terrific sleep schedule) to early AM. https://www.fox35orlando.com/video/fmc-r7om0g75wu2jgi42 John is a natural fit. It also appears evening anchor Marlisa Goldsmith is no longer doing the late news at 11 PM. I liked the broadcast because they tried to switch up the format from a standard 11 PM show, plus the set's dim lighting matched the late night vibe.

Speak of the devil, sad but human to see that age is beginning to take its toll on Dan. He spoke on CBS Sunday morning regarding the end of CBS News radio. He's still sharp. Compared to two years ago

Minor, Trivial Nexstar Station VO/Music Changes

To me, Rather was fine, flaws and all--- Somebody had to be in third place , and that was him. Dan Rather is no Cronkite but his tenure was the most stable era of the evening news since ole uncle Walter's departure. The broadcast reamins no better without Rather.

Whoah! Liz is a staple. I always grew up seeing her on WPEC, never realized how long she was at that station until recently. Damn, I liked him on Good Day Orlando, hopefully they find a great new male anchor to take his place.

Is there anyway you could screenshot or copy and paste the text from the article, it's paywalled.

What is Newlin's budget???!!! It's insane. Add to that WESH also switches anchors from 7-9 an on their CW 18 morning newscast. Stations these days (like WFTV) just stretch the same two anchors for 4-5 hours straight.
-
Sad to see, Summer was great. Pretty cool that she was bodybuilding as a mom as well! I like that WESH is he only station in the market with a variety of evening anchors. WKMG, WFTV, and WOFL all have about the same two anchors on almost all of their evening/nightside newscasts. --- And all almost newscasts are sponsored by Dan Newlin too lol. Is that set real or virtual, it looks fantastic.

And I don't mean to hate on anybody's paycheck. Companies are greedy (they pay some MMJs minimum wage), so I don't blame top talent for milking companies for all their worth. $300K + anchor salaries however are getting harder to justify in the era of sinking viewership -- especially when producers and reporters do all the work on the local level. Accordingly, I understand Scripps elevating MMJ salaries and making the anchors do more than read, but eliminating the position isn't the solution IMO. High paid anchors better start turning stories (if they aren't already) or doing anything they can to contribute further to newsrooms to TRY and extend their shelf life.

Yeah Weekend Today's timeslots have been eraatic.

Legacy means nothing in the penny pinching era, especially at Nexstar. God forbid Kaity and Mr G might be on the chopping block next. Speculation but WNBC's Chuck Scarbourough's 50 anniversary came around in March 2024 and I recall Andrew Siff clarifying that is was a celebration not a retirement, but then Chuck retires just a few months later in December? I'm not sure that was fully his choice. Dana Tyler and Maurice Dubois were both axed from CBS/WCBS. Anyone is expendable these days.
-
Im not surprised Kendis Gibson might be layed off. Taking people from network and cable news level must not be cheap. Agreed. PIX 11 really sucked in the early to mid 2010s. The decision to blow up Jim and Kaity for Jodi Applegate broadcasting from the cheap newsroom was highly questionable. They really started getting better with the post-Sukanya Morning show team. I never really cared about their afternoon newscasts, but its sucks to see the station going backwards.

The media world is pretty cutthroat and nasty. If you have to lay someone off after years business is business. The least you could do is allow them a proper goodbye. I'm sure she's not gonna go rogue and start cursing out ABC on the air on her last day, for fear of being blacklisted from getting another job.

Well, in all fairness NBC News is in a tough spot. They have to maintain journalistic objectivity while covering a president who habitually lies, spreads disinformation, and attacks the media. NBC has to balance calling him out consistently, while not appearing to have an agenda against him. NBC-Comcast also has to worry about their corporate interests that are affected by government approval --- which is an unfortunate statement to make about a journalistic organization. MSNBC ---pardon MS NOW-- however is free to criticize the Trump administration unendingly. It is a partisan political network with a specifically targeted liberal audience. They don't have to worry about alienating a portion of their viewership, because I'm sure no one conservative is watching MSNBC (if not to see what the opposition is saying). Overall, NBC and the other big broadcast networks already grill Trump a lot. They could do it even harder. But do we really need them to be orange man bad on a loop 24/7 like MS-NOW?
