Speaking of awkward ad Libs, Ritter went "Who would've thought, Los Angeles on fire!" I remember myself thinking, and a YouTube commenter writing, "literally everyone" lol. Ad-libbing is one thing, inserting your personal biases into hard news stories that require straight facts is another thing. Certain jobs like a morning show host such as Mike Jerrick gives you a little room to add a little extra flair on lighter stories. But to me, tenure is not a license to editorialize. No matter how you feel about the undocumented immigrant issue, Ritter inserted his own bias when calling them "critical to our economy" in the video below. Even his tonality in "now to the confusion that is the federal round up of undocumented immigrants", Small example among many. Ritter is not alone. Gayle King does it all the time, and Rosanna Scotto is the most obvious example.

Per her LinkedIn, she announced her role as an MSJ/Reporter. Although the bigger the market, the lesser frequency of MMJ/MSJing, it still sucks that elevating to market 1 is no longer an escape from one man banding.... and on a big three station not News 12.

I wish they would begin each broadcast with that fantastic shot of the celing circle seven perching over the anchor desk, rather than a wide shot of the anchor desk.
-
That would be a full circle moment as they were previously co anchors at 5.

Lester Holt stepping down from NBC Nightly News
MediaZone4K replied to JosiahCubed's topic in Network News
Tom Llamas is the obvious choice. He's okay to me. Hallie Jackson has been heavily tapped for breaking news coverage so she's my next guess. Third option, based on her co-anchoring with Lester for big events is Savannah Guthrie. I'm guessing however than NBC doesn't want to mess with Today any further since Hoda left. -
I like this. The L3s are better, not fantastic but better. It reminds me of the blue box O&O L3s. For some reason their sets always look like a temporary set to me. Cheap dark lighting, all encompassing video walls.

Somewhere the President is celebrating the upheaval at MSNBC. I'm no Joy Reid fan but I never expected them to outright cancel her show. Alex Wagner's bump also surprised me.

I agree. Begin the show with that daily news roundup, but instead extend it to 90 second VOs or VO/SOTs for the first 2-5 mins, then get into feature reporting for the remainder. If CBS torches their best revamp of EN since Bob Schiffer, that would be very unfortunate. To the critics: Every news outlet covers the same thing, it's not a sin that CBS decided to go in a different direction. I really hope the audience gives this a chance. It's a jolting transition because we've been hardwired to fast paced high story count newscasts like the competition. But this is a level of quality rare for American TV news that we'd more see from PBS or Europeran sources like BBC and France 24. I hope people will open their minds to this. If this crashes and burns, I don't think the evening news can get much better than this. Just give the timeslot back to the affiliates.

Was thinking that as well! I'm sure she worked side-by-side with those people at some point, now she's having to be hostile with them.

My only gripe with the weather area is that solid blue wall. The light reflects off of it, and it kinda looks like an element from the old set. I like that it forms a circle 7 though. Wow! For the first time in a long time we can now say every broadcast station in New York City has a decent set.
-
One big fix was the lighting! Dark: Vs brighter more even color The hollow Circle 7 with the clouds is also a great touch. My favorite element of the new set. The echo sounding mics remind me of KTRK and KABC's sound. I don't know if this is a carryover from ABC News, but the anchors asko seem to be talking very loudly. I noticed that on GMA and WNT, my assumption is it's for dramatic effect just like their overuse of breaking news.

The WABC facility move reminds me of when there were calls here for WNYW to move facilities after complaints about building construction. Is there a reason they never moved into the Fox mothership headquarters?
-
I was thinking the same thing. They might as well keep his name there because he showed up to work at that location for decades. Where are the new building move they can just name it "Peter Jennings Place" or something. Great moment. While it's melancholy to see this move happen, this is for the best. From what I saw of Tamron Hall and The View the lighting in the new building looks great.

Well if this is true that's a shame. She was a great morning personality. I will say PIX 11 is a station with relatively high turnover. From experience that's usually indicative of either a low-paying or toxic work environment.
-
This Is understandable as he had a full schedule and his daughter was juggling health issues. As for his replacement? Does there need to be one? GMA has enough anchors. Lara's role seemed redundant after Strahan entered.
-
Totally subjective but IMO it's the worst in the market. The modernized backgrounds however were a good touch.
-
I want to say ABC 7's best sets were probably the all blue set from the late 80s and the steps desk set from the 70s, And those weren't fantastic. Otherwise the station has had a rough history aesthetically. But this has definitely been a more substance than decoration station, because they have a solid news team, and have retained the most veteran talent. SB: I can't wait to see what this new building does for This Week and Weekend GMA because the lighting and camera quality on both shows is just as bad as WABC.
-
Fair points but my issue isn't sizes of sets, it's design concept. KTLA and WPIX are very similar, but there's subtle differences on the LA set that give it the edge. In the case of WABC, IMO set size wasn't an issue, it was bad design and poor lighting that cheapened its look.
-
Have to respectfully disagree. IMO, None of the NYC stations look better than their O&O siblings. KCAL's set looks better than WCBS, WTTG's set tops WNYW, KNBC and KXAS's sets top WNBC, KTLA looks better than WPIX and KGO and KABC have always looked better than WABC. I know some of these could be considered West Coast flagships, but still, one would think Market 1 stations would get all the best stuff. What's in the pic apparently tops anything WABC has in 30+ years. The current best looking set in market is between WPIX and WCBS but this should surely rival that.

I thought there was talk a while back of CBS 2 moving to solo anchored broadcasts outside of the morning to save money? If not, Dick Brennan is a solid choice. He’s very personable.
-
Am I serious about what? I was unaware that Tamron Hall relocated to the new studio. Everybody doesn’t know everything, and thank you for informing me. There’s a more polite way that you could have informed me of that, instead of your usual sarcasm. Again, If you’re going to respond to anything I post check your tone first. I always reply to people respectfully on this thread, give me the same courtesy. You aside, the new studios are terrific so far. The lighting on The View also looks very good. Hoping the upcoming WABC set is just as great.
-
Not sure if this was ever brought up before, but the Tamron Hall Show has significantly improved its lighting. 2025: warmer lighting, smooth hd 2024: washed out fluorescent lighting, grainy HD Tamron show always had a good set but this goes to show the power of how lightning and picture quality can improve the way a show looks.

I wonder why they opted to have only one of them anchor Plus. Contrary to our speculation of an eventual solo broadcast starring Maurice, John was the one chosen to solo anchor Plus. John is a fine journalist but I wonder why CBS consistently chooses him As an anchor when they reshuffle broadcasts.
-
True. We always have to strike a balance between being critics who have a more acute eye for certain things and assessing what the audience actually cares about. But If the news station dedicated a segment to draw attention to their new set it shows that they want the audience to care about it.
