Interesting to see Nora O'Donnell anchoring the presidential address Special Report rather than Maurice, John, or Tony. It's cool that CBS still allows her to anchor special coverage.
-
Former WJLA anchor Robert Burton has joined WTTG his wife Jeannette Reyes' former station. If she stayed, it would have been cool for husband and wife to anchor together.

Our veterans are going! Was this Elloitt's choice or CBS cuts? I love that CBS News Miami showed clips of his time at Local 10, and didn't just whitewash it by saying he used to work at "another local tv station" .

Loving the light fixture. It reminds me of their 2002 intro in my profile pic. Beaides that, meh on the Newsplex renderings. The front desk area looks too flat and barren. It doesn't appear immersed in the newsroom but rather separate. The new renderings also remove the iconic upstairs balcony view (from the front angle). The best was the OG newsplex from the 90s. It had depth and angles, and the lighting wasn't too fluorescent like it is now. The split video monitors were a staple, and IMO looked better than the seamless. But I suppose they can just create the split monitor effect on the video wall.

NBC Nightly News reporter Rehema Ellis is retiring. Realizing how long she was at the network, I had a feeling this move was coming soon. I love her deep warm reporting voice. Excellent story teller.

He got suspended twice. The first time for mistakenly reporting that all of Kobe Bryant's children rather than one of them were on that ill fated helicopter. The second time for entering a hospital without permission during the pandemic.

Jennifer McLogan is stepping back from her daily reporting duties but according to Kristine Johnson she's not retiring. Before she was interrupted by Kristine, Jennifer said she hoped to be able to report at least two to three days a week. I questioned if this is fully Jennifer's choice given what's going on at CBS.

I couldn't believe it when I saw the Erika Kirk Townhall commercial on CBS. I almost thought it was a Fox Nation ad. It will be interesting to see CBS become the first of the big three networks to have a conservative undertone. Ironically a right slant fits CBS. This was the network with a slate of rural shows back in the day. It's schedule is filled with police and legal procedurals. Its soap operas are more conservative than the ones on ABC, tackling social issues much less. The network has always had an appeal toward older audiences. The culprit is typical Scripps BS. They destroyed a good news set in favor of a barren video wall, grainy studio cameras, cheap lighting and graphics. Add wanna-be-documentary style packages and other Scripps strip downs deemed "innovative" to the mix. They've lost major anchors on top of that. WPBF is a good station don't get me wrong, but I think its #1 is by default of channel 5 falling off, not necessarily because they're doing something better. Back to CBS...

it's a shame that someone of her talent caliber and personality just disappeared from the airwaves. She and Sue Simmons should've been hitting their retirements right about now, if not still on the air like Kaity Tong.

Left or was pused out?

I didn't want to say it but you took the words right out of my mouth. At least Nate would give viewers some excitement and uniqueness with his new suits every night. Looking at CBS' blatant stability issues I'm gonna be pessimistic and say I have no faith that this is going to work. If their solution copying ABC, NBC is is already doing so, Norah was copying aswell and look how that worked. Both networks have managed to retain the same host for a decade, in NBC's case they did this twice. How bad did the current version have to be doing in the ratings to be blown up in six months?? On the subject of stability: Vs NBC

20 weeks is a lot. Flying across the country that frequently is tough on anyone, it's no surprise that he's leaving. It's surprising that Steve Lacy is still an anchor and was it booted along with Dari Alexander

Dan Bowens is another calm personality. Rosanna's energy on the show might overpower his. She needs someone the equivalent of Mike Jerrick on Good day Philadelphia. Sidebar, I don't recall Sukanya Krisnan ever filling in next to Greg Kelly. That would have been a sight to see.
-
Willing to bet that FOX 5 News is in talks with Maurice. But he, similar to Lori Stokes, is a hard news anchor with a calm personality. I'm not sure that would vibe well next to Rosanna Scotto. Yup! Curt was okay but not surprising. He's near retirement age and traveling bicoastally every week. That's a lot.

Whit Johnson I wonder how much longer Dan Rather would've lasted if CBS decided to forgive the Bush military service controversy... where would the show be today?
-
So starting this discussion in advance, who will be next next host of Evening News in 2027? Also with Tony and Gayle possiblly leaving, CBS is again sacrificing it's morning show to bump evenings. The three anchors have great chemistry and I'd hate to see them broken up.

Fox Television Stations - General Thread
MediaZone4K replied to ColDayNews's topic in Corporate Chat
I am against this deal to avoid further media consolidation. However CBS O&O stations could learn from FOX O&Os. Fox O&Os are often a much better and more local product than CBS. I point to stations like WTXF and WNYW with personalities like Mike Jerrick and Rosanna Scotto, or creative local talk shows like KRIV or WTTG does. Fox understands how to deliver non-standard newscasts, locally authentic products, and strong personalities. I heard someone on Reddit describe WCBS's newscasts like a TV news scene used in a movie for plot exposition. Just plain and generic. Agreed. Better Fox than Sinclair or Allen...or even Nexstar. -
Love the 18 logo in Channel 7 colors. Even more rare to see the 7 logo placed beside the FOX logo. The new newsplex renderings are eeh. Doesn't seem as grand as the original 90s plex. Hopefully he lighting is smoother in this one.

The CBS Evening News must still be making money because it's amazing that this program has not been canceled yet. The fact that CBS keeps trying in the mornings and evenings suggests they're turning some sort of decent profit ---maybe. Do you have any examples of top markets where CBS leads? I'm genuinely curious? Who now as host? Again, I hope the rumors aren't true about tapping Tony Dokoupil. He'd be the equivalent of Jeff Glor. Young, generically handsome male TV anchor. Capable of the job but not remarkable beyond that. Once could imagine CBS marketing him as a David Muir lite. My theory is WANF's break up with CBS was similar to WPLG's break up with ABC. The local affiliate probably got tired of paying for a network affiliation since viewers can bypass the station and go straight to the network's streaming apps for all of the shows they want.

I bring news from the future.

I called this months ago. SMH. It's a shame to see this come into fruition. Hopefully WNBC or WABC can get him somehow. I would say a station with a weak anchor bench like WNYW but that place has high turnover.

I am extremely late to the party but I think this L3 is a downgrade from what they had before. Their full screen graphics look better as it doesn't awkwardly mix fonts though. They need a new set aswell.
-
So CNBC is keeping the Peackock logo?
-
but does that include the Times Sq studio which to my understanding they did not own?
-
The breaking news title cards are really nice. I wish the lower thirds used that same gloss and shine instead of being flat. Overall the graphics are pretty good, better than CNN. The studios look great, and retain much of the MSNBC look. The L3s are a decent B-. The name ID L3s are unique concept. Not the best, not the worst. The MSNOW logo needs to be more creative. Overall not a bad rebrand after leaving NBC. i'm not a modern MSNBC fan, but it's hard to think the brand that I've known my entire life is no more. Growing up and seeing msnbc on the MSN homepage was nostalgic.
