  1. At what point do these OTA air news intensive stations take the Spectrum News route and simply record a half hour live and just press repeat? EDIT: and three episodes of big bang back to back? Yikes.
  2. I'm late but I appreciate when news talent speaks up about what went wrong that lead to their exit rather than a goodbye post with subliminal hints about their bad experiences. Unfortunately this may cost him the opportunity to work again so it's understandable why other reporters don't do this. His situation aside, I always wonder why anchor positions are reserved for more experienced talent when it's easier than reporting (as long as you have the presence to be on camera for more than 2 minutes). Especially in mid markets, you "need" tons of experience to anchor yet the teleprompter copy is written by recent grads.
  3. That is definitely indirect news reporter speak for a non amicable departure but not saying too much for fear of being blacklisted. WABC has the least turnover, so Im curious aswell.
  4. WTVJ has released a promo branding themselves as the stable station despite the changes in Miami tv. Ironically in the 80s and 90s they were the center of instability with the affiliation and channel dial swaps. From IG, hopefully you can open: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNDWs7WuQcB/?igsh=eGZiemNrZTU5NGpr
  5. Came here to ask what happened to Eden Chekol and I was surprised to see that she left. Sucks! She was good. In her absence veteran anchor Kristi Kruger is on alot more now.
  6. The Miami part I get. As for the graphics, they're simulcasting so there would be no reason to differentiate the graphics.
  7. While WSVN's current package is better than what it's had in years past, and while they differ from the overdone flat white box L3s, 7's graphics always look overly animated video gameish. It looked OK in the early 2000s, it sometimes looks iffy now. I believe they are moving facilities in the next few years, hopefully the News Plex gets a better with upgrade warmer less pale fluorescent lighting. The pre 2000 newsplex was the best iteration of the set they ever had. The team, especially Craig Stevens, seems very excited to have this affiliation. Genuine question, how was it affordable for WSVN to pick up ABC when WPLG couldn't?
  8. Agreed. It screams ABC WNT from "as we come on the air tonight", to the intro tease, to the date posted above the red headline graphic. This might be a stretch but Louie seemed to be deepening his voice to emulate David Muir. Even the background behind Louie (which I like) looked like Peter Jennings era WNT. I suppose they're hoping viewers find this similar enough to World News Tonight and don't bother to switch the channel. Perhaps World News Tonight LITE might be more distinct if it focused on issues relevant to the Latin American and Caribbean communities which dominate South Florida.
  9. I figured they'd opt for the alternating hours anchoring like they do on their evening shows. I've noticed this being the latest trend on marathon morning shows like WANF/WPCH, and WOFL. Swapping every hour instead of Team B 4:30-7, and Team A: 7-10/11am. It looks (so far) like they'll be doing an all headlines style newscast like Today In Florida, and not a soft morning show. New screen bugs per Craig Stevens
  10. Local 10 looks almost naked without the ABC bug at the side. I'm surprised they kept it this late, and didn't phase the ABC out of the logo a lot earlier. Meanwhile Sunbeam continues to pull out all the steps to promote ABC Miami with the Guitar Hotel in Hollywood being a giant billboard.
  11. Interesting image posting by a WPLG employee on LinkedIn.
  12. I was referring to whether you counted the WB/UPN/ My Net/ CW affiliation switches in the Miami tally. WPLG to Fo....
  13. Are you counting the WB/UPN/ My Net/CW switches in there? Those I haven't kept up with lol.
  14. I think that was the point, a CW/FOX style long continuous block of morning news. Agreed that ABC 18's schedule is not bad. I'm also surprised --and impressed -- that 18 opted to pay for syndicated programming in time-slots already covered by 7 News. Examples airing Extra at 10 and Tamron Hall at 4 when they could have just simulcasted 7 News.
  15. While I agree with the scheduling part and I agree that redeye shifts running well after lunch is not healthy, has it actually been proven that working those hours contributed to the deaths of any of those reporters? I recall Lisa Colagrossi's husband speculated that in her case. In the case of 4 & 4:30 am newscasts I don't mind what Scripps is doing with recorded anchorless shows. Very little new news is actually happening, viewership isn't that high, and its easier on the the talent/photogs.
  16. Letterman reacts with skepticism
  17. Meanwhile South Park (a Paramount entity) just premiered its 27th season featuring a naked President Trump with a microscopic private part in a relationship with The Devil --- just typing it out sounds insane lol. A character even urges others to be quiet before Paramount cancels them. We'll see what the blow back from that is. While Colbert's cancellation may definitely be influenced by Trump I doubt it's the sole reason given, being that other Paramount entities feature even sharper Trump criticism.
  18. The set they had before was completely fine, one of the best in market. The main improvement I see so far is that the seamless video wall behind the anchors looks a bit better with the skyline at the edges.
  19. Craig Stevens social media is almost that of a news junkie like us on this site! He often posts his favorite classic intros and graphics from WSVN. I've also seen those billboards while visiting South Florida, ABC 18's promotional effort has been very good. Contrary to the Miami affiliation swaps in the 80s, I haven't seen WSVN or WPLG mention each other in news reports about the new affiliations. For example WPLG is (understandably) not mentioning where viewers can find ABC programming now, they're just announcing that they are no longer ABC. Correct me if I'm wrong, I also haven't seen any of the other local news stations mention this (at least in our view) big media news.
  20. It's almost surreal to see WSVN promoting FOX. (From Craig Stevens on LinkedIn)
  21. This. Genuine question: would streaming not be a problem if studios and networks didn't make their content available on the internet thereby forcing people to watch TV??? If Craig Ferguson didn't want it, I always thought James Corden was the natural choice for the 11:35 PM slot. He had A list guests, good material for viral videos, and an overall lighthearted show which made him perfect to go up against Fallon and Kimmel. Colbert's primarily political approach to me felt natural against Seth Meyers at 12:37. I questioned why they would take a comedian famous or playing a character and give him an important show that required him to drop that character. All in all it worked out because Colbert has the highest ratings of the crop and outlasted Corden. Again, CBS probably wanted to make this move for a while, and the Trump situation finally pushed them to do it.
  22. Reaction from frequent Daily Show guest host Charlamagne tha God. I'm waiting to hear Jon Stewart's reaction. As we debate the motives for the cancellation, the timing and optics are undoubtably terrible
  23. Two things can be true at once. Perhaps the Late Show was already on numbered days, and now the Trump lawsuit pushed Paramount to finally pull the plug.
  24. Cue excessive attention to detail...Looks like they're keeping the minimalistic white bugs when the L3 ribbon is absent. I don't mind it, it's not distracting. I do wish they'd color the station logos when the ribbons appear though. I wish some stations still did transparent screen bugs.
  25. The franchise that David Letterman built is getting cancelled! As shaky as Late Night ratings have been I thought the cancellation of one of its mainstay shows was coming in a few years not next year! Then again, after Corden left Late Late it came out that production costs exceeded revenue which makes The Late Show's cancellation for business reasons believable....but bending to 45/47 is not implausible. I like Colbert but like Kimmel it's the same thing every night, Trump, for the last 10 years. It got stale which is why I prefer Fallon's show. He'll talk about you know whom and then move on to fun segments. Of all the networks why is CBS specifically struggling so much when it was once the most watched network?
