  1. Yep, I noticed him too. It's good they've added someone new to the reporter pool, but it's definitely not enough. I hate the term as much as anyone else, but "staffing shortage" keeps permeating my thoughts as I think about working in journalism in this era, and/or living/working in the Bay, and/or working for CBS.
  2. Wait, Emily's also leaving? I thought it was Michelle? Unless it's both?? I remember when we were discussing who might or might not replace Michelle Griego and now both of the names tossed out there are leaving. KPIX is definitely in need of hiring newbies at this point, and hopefully it won't have to be another expensive move like poaching VDLC several years ago. The bench continues to deteriorate at KPIX. Also Susie's departure is a big loss because of her housing-focused reporting, a big issue in the Bay Area. sigh
  3. I'm pleasantly surprised at how nice this looks compared to what I saw in the more dull NBC Boston open I posted in another thread. The new open music is, I believe, also the old WCAU open they used for a hot second (and that they continue to use for bumpers and what not). Rest in peace to the old theme I guess.
  4. I know we've been talking plenty about Jaclyn and what her future promotions might be, but have we decided if she's a shoo in for the weekend evening slot? It seems unclear to me and Walter is solo tonight.
  5. The idea and concept for FL24 is good and all, though the name personally doesn't resonate with me and I keep thinking "oh it's channel 24" even though it's not. I can commend Scripps for trying in an overall growing media market but they're going to need to expend a lot more on brand recognition here. This is a good point, and if only CBSN wasn't so limited and slow, it could've definitely been a bigger beast than it really is. Shame for CBS.
  6. We can finally put the 4PM anchor issue to rest: WPVI Philadelphia Moves Sarah Bloomquist To 4 P.M. Anchor Team
  7. After last year, CBS 3 is still way down on staffing, so they're reducing coverage while forcing existing reporters to pick up more of the slack where they can. Difficult value proposition for new reporters to consider, though, when CBS just whacks people left and right basically at will. Sad state of affairs and I'm bearish on an actual rebound with this station.
  8. A devastating demise for someone who saw a very abrupt and volatile struggle to the end of her career at WFOR.
  9. I can't figure out how to quote an older response for some reason, but here's where he's going:
  10. Nice catch; they both shared this last Thursday but I certainly never spotted this lol Hopefully that blogger can be done ranting about the station, but... what do I know As for replacements, - Anne is the most natural replacement based on position so it should be the easiest to slot her right in. - If not, I think they'll hire someone new, because Emily is a relatively new mom and VDLC is essentially gone. - But if Emily also wants the job, she would fit right in as well. Didn't Maria also used to anchor with Frank Mallicoat (before he was forced out)? Could we see her return to the anchor chair? I know she had tough personal losses last year, so I also understand if she sticks to reporting on her schedule/doesn't want to return to mornings.
  11. It's a shame Rita was essentially pushed out due to her shrinking role, but the writing was on the wall after they tweaked the teams when Michaela came onboard. Especially when Vanessa was reduced to zero after that and then Rita basically held onto the scraps that Vanessa had to begin with. I don't think Rita's exit is really wrongly timed considering sweeps calculations ended approximately when she posted her announcement. But Brooke is the new 'it' girl for GDLA so hopefully we don't see another cycling of anchors in 3 years. I wish Rita well.
  12. It seems like they didn't do this too often at WABC, but my memory could just be failing me. Over at KABC, the old blurb last year was long enough of a word salad to be laughable: "Hello, I'm (name). You're watching Eyewitness News at (time), live on ABC 7, ABC7.com, and streaming on the ABC 7 Los Angeles App and Hulu Live." every broadcast. Thankfully, for everyone's sake, it's now much shorter.
  13. Tom deserves all the rest he can get and more after so many years of early-morning wake-up calls. Has KTRK announced who's taking over? The station and Houston, more generally, has seen a huge amount of turnover lately.
  14. Dan Mannarino is launching a new political show on PIX 11 called "PIX on Politics". The show will begin on Sunday, June 20. Nexstar is certainly diving head first into making their own Sunday political shows, as evident by this statewide show launched last fall in California.
  15. Agreed on the 4PM to be more in line with the rest of corporate, but I get that they don't have to be cookie-cutter if they really don't want to. Whatever KNTV does at these two new time slots won't have anything on KGO - WNT continues to lead and Jeopardy/WOF is hard to beat anywhere. I actually think what KNTV has right now is still best-positioned to challenge KGO, but based on the station's hard push towards 'deep-dive' investigations and documentaries, this might be the way to get them out to a broader audience. Still, I suppose this is NBC's meh response to cutting off All Access?
  16. Agree with above. Proportions are terrible with the circle 7 and if they want to go through with this new flat ABC ball, then the circle 7 needs to be re-tuned as well. Could not agree more. I can recognize the value of the original flat ABC but turning everything else "new" or keeping it more of the same does not make for a congruent appearance. Speaking of new, the introduction of red to the ABC color palette is so out of left field. I'd also expect the new sampled font and templates shown to be something I'd find on Freeform and not on ABC. I can admit that I sound kind of like a grinch, but I'll wait and hopefully anticipate something more sensible.
  17. I know everyone knows Viacom is prime prey material, but this merger here you're stating could happen would be a mess.
  18. The station's actually been seeing a constant exodus since last year without many new talent coming in (like maybe two new faces). They never did find a direct replacement for Bob Frier after he left last summer, and seem to have forced Kristin to lead the news at 4AM. Robert Guaderrama and Glenn Richards left in April. Heather Gustafson left in March. Mike Magnoli left late last year. Brian Scott also left last summer. For a market like Orlando, the station seems to have quite a bit of turnover, to say the least.
  19. Another White House reporter (who also had a tumultuous relationship with the previous administration) reportedly heads to CNN as a correspondent, according to Deadline and The Hill: Kristin Fisher, who finished her last live shot on Fox News last Friday. Whatever we think of CNN, it's incredible that their budget continues to allow them to poach talent, especially during these times.
  20. Not gonna lie but after watching so many newscasts with 'heads in boxes', I'm going to find it hard to get used to seeing anchors sit tightly together again. Even the anchors sitting a few feet away at the same desk makes more sense to me from a presentation standpoint, but...I might be alone here.
  21. This'll be a homecoming for Vittert, who's from Illinois. Also, I'm wondering if he'll get an afternoon show or if he'll boot Banfield off. Time will tell.
  22. Forgive me here, but it does bear some resemblance. The style of the lower-3rd basically seems to be from the same family, though the font is another story. I agree with the others that the previous package was just fine, but...well, if we hate this one, we can always count on a new style come 2024. Now I'm wondering if they'll be modifying the Nightly News package any time soon. And lastly, the O&Os seem pretty all but certain to happen anytime now.
  23. I honestly had no idea he was viral but his dancing seems pretty legit (much better than the average TikToker). Seems like he was ousted unexpectedly, so this is sad. FOX 46 needs to get over its growing pains soon, because there's been too much switcharoo recently.
  24. Malini Basu is bound for WFAA after announcing her departure from WFXT two weeks ago.
  25. ...I guess I'll finally be the one to start the CBS 2 News thread? It's a long-time coming, that's for sure. I'll kick it off with some sad news for the morning team, which at this point, is not breaking anymore, but should be pointed out: Alternate Version on Instagram It does not sound like she was forced out, based on the comments on her social media and appears that she chose to move on, possibly from the industry altogether, and it's nice to see that she was well-liked by her (now-former) colleagues at the station through the comments. Not aware of any replacement yet. Amber filled in yesterday morning. Markina also appeared recently for the first time in a while (that I've noticed, at least) and we'll see if they'll eventually hire Olga or just continue to make do with her freelancing.
