Discovered composers & publishers of music themes
Justin Hill replied to promoguy98's topic in News Music & Voiceovers
An unknown synthesizer/keyboard theme, used by WBAY-TV 2 and WVIA 44: I've separated the voices from the audio with AI, edited it with audacity, put it together with Movie Maker and uploaded it to YouTube. -
The one thing I couldn't stand, was how Warner Bros. Discovery has treated their content. They've treated some of their content like it was disposable, which is hurting things o Cartoon Network's end. The last time Cartoon Network had great shows, was from their golden age with the likes of The Powerpuff Girls Classic in 1998 up until recently with Adventure Time, both those cartoons are popular enough that they are getting some new spin-off series as well... I, too, feel sad for the sorry state of broadcast TV, especially since when Scripps bought Ion and eighty-sixed "qubo," Ion's kids/family-oriented subchannel in favor of channels focused on reality TV, Defy TV and TrueReal TV... When Scripps did away with qubo, I was saddened by the fact that I won't be able to watch Inspector Gadget on an over-the-air broadcast, Inspector Gadget was one of my favorite cartoons from my childhood...

I like the attempt at a news set/newscast with news graphics and a logo modeled after ABC News, "PBF News," from WPBF 25 out of West Palm Beach, Florida in the mid-1990s:

MyNetworkTV came into being in 2006 as a way for Fox to create a rival station to The CW, which was formed by combining CBS/Viacom's UPN with TimeWarner's The WB. MyNetworkTV stations were mostly leftover The WB and UPN affiliates from that merger, depending on the market... These days, MyNetworkTV is now a lost cause, not only because it was demoted from "network" status to "program service" status, but also because of the current programming, of which MyNetworkTV is down to the bare minimum of programs... The E.W. Scripps Co. had the right idea, when they reverted both WMYD-TV 20 of Detroit, Michigan and WACY-TV 32 of Green Bay, Wisconsin back to independent status. Doing so offered some more programming freedom for both TV stations...

CBS O&Os Adopting "First Alert Weather" Branding
Justin Hill replied to Georgie56's topic in The Weather Lab
With all the turbulent weather the Midwest had dealt with (and still continues to deal with), I think the new weather forecast branding signifies how important the weather is, rain or shine... -
The current WRIC-TV 8 logo is bland compared to WRIC-TV's "twisted 8" logo...

WMTW and KOLO have better designs for a logo for an ABC affiliate featuring the number 8. Even WGHP's Sottsass-Memphis art movement-inspired "triangle 8" logo survived the switchover from ABC to Fox in the big TV affiliation shuffle of 1994-1996 before it was unceremoniously ditched in the late 1990s, was a better logo...

It's called "Aerial" as in aerial photograph, not "Ariel" as in the name of the little mermaid. Besides that, I I'm with the rest of this forum when it comes to the Aerial music package!

One thing this channel lacks, is a way for them to insert local weather, but I guess that's what competitor Local Now is for...

WBAY-TV 2 just celebrated their 69-year anniversary on March 17, 2022!

By the early-mid-1990s, many TV stations, mostly ABC, NBC and CBS affiliates (some of which, would become Fox stations in 1994, 1995 or 1996), started using a lot of blue, purple and pink on their sets, which would otherwise look bland with just a simple white or gray color scheme. Some sets that come to mind are the WBAY-TV 2 set in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the WJKS-TV 17 set in Jacksonville, Florida, the KARE 11 set in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the KUSA 9 set in Denver, Colorado and the WGHP-TV 8 set in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The searchlights are shared between Fox Corp. and Disney at this point. Some Fox affiliates still use them (KSWB, WMSN and WBFF for example).

The Ever-Evolving Gray Graphics Situation...Thread
Justin Hill replied to NEOMatrix's topic in Graphics
It is not uncommon for the graphic designer of a TV station's later logo to borrow from that station's past, like with KSTP or WMAR's case...these derivative works could be just an amazing coincidence, such as in KSTP's case... -
The Ever-Evolving Gray Graphics Situation...Thread
Justin Hill replied to NEOMatrix's topic in Graphics
Seeing that new WAVE logo reminds me of other local TV stations that got on the retro logo bandwagon: * KSTP-TV 5 of Minneapolis, Minnesota switched to a logo resembling their red and white 1982 logo. * WMAR-TV 2 of Baltimore, Maryland is currently using a logo that resembles their original 1975 logo. -
In my market, Green Bay, Wisconsin, WCWF 14 will serve as the ATSC 3.0 lighthouse station starting January 25, 2022. 14.1 CW 14 --> WLUK-TV 11 (Fox) 14.2 Comet --> WFRV-TV 5 (CBS) 14.3 Charge! --> WBAY-TV 2 (ABC) 14.4 Stadium --> WACY-TV 32 (MyNetworkTV) 14.5 Dabl --> WACY-TV 32 (MyNetworkTV)

ABC changing their logo; New graphics coming for ABC owned stations

I like the set WBAY-TV 2 in Green Bay, Wisconsin used in 1987 (when still with CBS) which was mostly white/gray with a blue world map background and red carpet. The world map background would survive a few makeovers in the 1990s (when they joined ABC) until it was retired with a completely new set in 2003.

Denver Colorado's "Big Switch" of 1995! KCNC-TV 4, formerly affiliated with NBC, becomes owned and operated by CBS. KMGH-TV 7, formerly affiliated with CBS, becomes an ABC affiliate. KUSA 9, formerly affiliated with ABC, becomes an NBC affiliate. KCNC-TV 4 put out a special outlining the details of the affiliation switch (which station gets what network's programming and what programming stays at each station following the switch (mostly syndicated shows), plus some new TV shows these stations will get (syndication or network programming). Here's that video, divided into three parts: Here's KMGH-TV 7's report on the big switch on the following day: ...and KUSA, channel 9:

ABC changing their logo; New graphics coming for ABC owned stations
Justin Hill replied to Briella's topic in Graphics
The ABC logo's design does not stray too far from the 1962 Paul Rand original. The "b" is slightly shorter, the "c" has a smaller gap and all three letters are centered, but the logo is still instantly recognizable. The reason for the centering of the letters, is to add an outline to the circle/dot in some inverted applications, such as an on-screen bug seen during ABC's network programming. -
XETV-TV 6, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico/San Diego, California, USA (formerly Independent/ABC/Fox/The CW, now Canal 5) "XETV-TV 6 News Up To Date" newscast with Ron Fortner, December 30, 1977:

WGBA-TV NBC 26's first newscast, July 19, 1996. Newstheme: WDJT 1995 Newstheme + NBC Jingle After losing their Fox affiliation to WLUK-TV 11 in 1995, WGBA-TV 26, a station who had no newscast prior to their NBC affiliation, had to expand their studio on North Road in Green Bay, Wisconsin to add a newsroom, anchor desk and other types of news-gathering equipment. The project was finished just in time for the 1996 Olympic Games. Ashley Webster (now at Fox Business) was one of the original anchormen and women at NBC 26 during the station's early waning days. It took years for WGBA-TV 26 (a station on a UHF frequency), now "Proud as a Peacock" to be Green Bay's newest NBC affiliate to find "Must See TV." NBC 26 had to find its identity in Packerland while competing with Green Bay, Wisconsin's "big three" stations, all found on VHF frequencies, which had loyal viewers since the 1950s: WBAY-TV 2 (ABC), WFRV-TV 5 (CBS) and WLUK-TV 11 (Fox).

All kinds of goodies from WJKS-TV/WJWB 17, Jacksonville, Florida: The station started out as an ABC affiliate in the 1960s, became an NBC affiliate for a short time in the 1980s before returning back to ABC. In 1997, WJKS-TV 17 became The WB affiliate WJWB 17. In 2006, the station is now WCWJ 17, an affiliate of The CW. 1977: 1982: 1983: 1986: 1987: 1988: 1989: 1993: 1995 (Monday Night Fan Ball): 1995: 1996 (finale newscast before the switch to The WB): 1996 (finale newscast before the switch to The WB): WJKS-TV 17 Face Off: WJKS-TV 17's ABC Affiliation Loss (1996): The 50th Anniversary of WJKS-TV/WJWB/WCWJ 17 (1966-2016):

WNDU (NBC) 16's top story about Quincy Newspapers switching the ABC affiliate WSJV 28 to the Fox network (now currently H&I), forcing ABC onto the then low-power station W58BT 58 (now WBND-LD 57). The story was filmed live at the Concorde Mall, a once-popular, now-defunct shopping mall in South Bend, Indiana, on October 18, 1995: It may have given South Bend, Indiana a new Fox affiliate, although ABC expressed displeasure with it, because it was another excuse to air Chicago Bears NFL football games... ...but... ...in retaliation for Quincy Newspapers switching WSJV 28 to the Fox network from ABC in South Bend, Indiana, another ABC affiliate, WREX-TV 13 in Rockford, Illinois, had been forced to switch to NBC, forcing the ABC affiliation onto WTVO 17:
