  1. The new logo for WTOK-TV 11's "WTOK NEWS 11" has a strong resemblance to fellow Gray-owned ABC affiliate WBAY-TV 2's "ACTION 2 NEWS" logo...
  2. The one thing I couldn't stand, was how Warner Bros. Discovery has treated their content. They've treated some of their content like it was disposable, which is hurting things o Cartoon Network's end. The last time Cartoon Network had great shows, was from their golden age with the likes of The Powerpuff Girls Classic in 1998 up until recently with Adventure Time, both those cartoons are popular enough that they are getting some new spin-off series as well... I, too, feel sad for the sorry state of broadcast TV, especially since when Scripps bought Ion and eighty-sixed "qubo," Ion's kids/family-oriented subchannel in favor of channels focused on reality TV, Defy TV and TrueReal TV... When Scripps did away with qubo, I was saddened by the fact that I won't be able to watch Inspector Gadget on an over-the-air broadcast, Inspector Gadget was one of my favorite cartoons from my childhood...
  3. I like the attempt at a news set/newscast with news graphics and a logo modeled after ABC News, "PBF News," from WPBF 25 out of West Palm Beach, Florida in the mid-1990s:
  4. From what I've seen of that anchor desk, it looks brighter and more inviting...
  5. MyNetworkTV came into being in 2006 as a way for Fox to create a rival station to The CW, which was formed by combining CBS/Viacom's UPN with TimeWarner's The WB. MyNetworkTV stations were mostly leftover The WB and UPN affiliates from that merger, depending on the market... These days, MyNetworkTV is now a lost cause, not only because it was demoted from "network" status to "program service" status, but also because of the current programming, of which MyNetworkTV is down to the bare minimum of programs... The E.W. Scripps Co. had the right idea, when they reverted both WMYD-TV 20 of Detroit, Michigan and WACY-TV 32 of Green Bay, Wisconsin back to independent status. Doing so offered some more programming freedom for both TV stations...
  6. I have a feeling their next set will be spacious...
  7. Many Gray Television and Nexstar-owned stations also used that fake brick pattern in their set designs...
  8. With all the turbulent weather the Midwest had dealt with (and still continues to deal with), I think the new weather forecast branding signifies how important the weather is, rain or shine...
  9. The only reason I could see the WJMN-TV 3 newscast sticking around, is because of the fact that it is a semi-satellite of the much bigger WFRV-TV 5... I would love for channel 3 to become a CW affiliate and to take the affiliation away from not just WBKP 5.1/WBUP 10.2 in their market, but also WCWF 14 in Green Bay. I would love to see WJMN operate on a digital subchannel of WFRV, channel 5.5 in Green Bay, but with a few market-specific program substitutions... WCWF 14 would become an independent or Telemundo affiliate as a result, modifying their callsign as WLUF-TV 14 or WLUY-TV 14.
  10. The current WRIC-TV 8 logo is bland compared to WRIC-TV's "twisted 8" logo...
  11. WMTW and KOLO have better designs for a logo for an ABC affiliate featuring the number 8. Even WGHP's Sottsass-Memphis art movement-inspired "triangle 8" logo survived the switchover from ABC to Fox in the big TV affiliation shuffle of 1994-1996 before it was unceremoniously ditched in the late 1990s, was a better logo...
  12. It's called "Aerial" as in aerial photograph, not "Ariel" as in the name of the little mermaid. Besides that, I I'm with the rest of this forum when it comes to the Aerial music package!
  13. They could do what Marks Radio Group's WBKB-TV 11 in Alpena, Michigan did and add the other stations on digital subchannels, but have each channel simulcast each newscast. 11.1 - CBS 11.2 - NBC 11.3 - ABC 11.4 - Fox/MyNetworkTV Here's how I'd imagine WHIZ-TV would do theirs (18.6 to 18.12 could be possible future subchannel additions): 18.1 - NBC 18.2 - ABC 18.3 - CBS 18.4 - Fox/MyNetworkTV 18.5 - The CW 18.6 - Ion 18.7 - Antenna TV 18.8 - Rewind TV 18.9 - Laff 18.10 - MeTV 18.11 - H&I 18.12 - Decades
  14. WJMN-TV 3 was the only one that got away, although it is still operated as a partial semi-satellite of WFRV-TV 5...
  15. WLUK-TV 11 was never owned by Media General, but WBAY-TV 2 was...you meant to say common Sinclair Broadcast Group ownership...WLUC-TV 6 was traded to Gray Television in exchange for WSBT-TV 22 of South Bend, Indiana.
  16. One thing this channel lacks, is a way for them to insert local weather, but I guess that's what competitor Local Now is for...
  17. WBAY-TV 2 just celebrated their 69-year anniversary on March 17, 2022!
  18. By the early-mid-1990s, many TV stations, mostly ABC, NBC and CBS affiliates (some of which, would become Fox stations in 1994, 1995 or 1996), started using a lot of blue, purple and pink on their sets, which would otherwise look bland with just a simple white or gray color scheme. Some sets that come to mind are the WBAY-TV 2 set in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the WJKS-TV 17 set in Jacksonville, Florida, the KARE 11 set in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the KUSA 9 set in Denver, Colorado and the WGHP-TV 8 set in Greensboro, North Carolina.
  19. The searchlights are shared between Fox Corp. and Disney at this point. Some Fox affiliates still use them (KSWB, WMSN and WBFF for example).
  20. It is not uncommon for the graphic designer of a TV station's later logo to borrow from that station's past, like with KSTP or WMAR's case...these derivative works could be just an amazing coincidence, such as in KSTP's case...
  21. I hope this means Local 3 can eighty-six their current newstheme, "Locals Only" in favor of something better while their graphics and set/studio get refreshed. I would like them to to use something guitar-driven, like "Indie-Band News" or something horn-driven, like "The Hammer" (a derivative of "Fahren-Hite"), in order to differentiatiate them even more from their CBS-affiliated Titletown semi-satellite. I hope WJMN-TV can succeed, and become a Midwestern small-town version of WFMZ-TV...
  22. Seeing that new WAVE logo reminds me of other local TV stations that got on the retro logo bandwagon: * KSTP-TV 5 of Minneapolis, Minnesota switched to a logo resembling their red and white 1982 logo. * WMAR-TV 2 of Baltimore, Maryland is currently using a logo that resembles their original 1975 logo.
  23. Seeing the new U.P. CBS affiliate build their new set/studio, will be similar to how Green Bay NBC affiliate WGBA-TV 26 had to expand their studio in 1995 following 1995 affiliation switch, just to house a newscast, news set and newsroom. WGBA was originally an independent station, which became a Fox affiliate when WXGZ-TV 32 went bankrupt in 1992. When WGBA-TV 26 lost Fox to former NBC affiliate WLUK-TV 11, they had to expand their small TV studio, buy more equipment and hire a newscast and news crew to get the local news on the air just in time for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. A lot had to be done to get a fourth tangible newscast in Green Bay to compete with the heritage "big three" newscasts at channels 2, 5 and 11. I'm guessing the same thing that happened with channel 26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1995/1996 will happen with channel 19 in Marquette, Michigan, a station who went and stole WJMN's thunder (not to mention its affiliation with CBS!), to gain Lilly Broadcasting a foothold in the Upper Peninsula market! In the words of Steely Dan: Hey, Nineteen!
  24. The proposed non-standard news branding reminds me of WFTS-TV 28 "ABC Action News" in Tampa, Florida.
  25. In my market, Green Bay, Wisconsin, WCWF 14 will serve as the ATSC 3.0 lighthouse station starting January 25, 2022. 14.1 CW 14 --> WLUK-TV 11 (Fox) 14.2 Comet --> WFRV-TV 5 (CBS) 14.3 Charge! --> WBAY-TV 2 (ABC) 14.4 Stadium --> WACY-TV 32 (MyNetworkTV) 14.5 Dabl --> WACY-TV 32 (MyNetworkTV)
