I was channel surfing on Pluto TV and stumbled upon CBS NEWS DFW when they were talking about Texas Governor Greg Abbott's State of the State address. And I literally had to search YouTube, because I thought maybe they were taking clips from a Nexstar station covering it, which was weird, but alright. But no. The Governor's SOTS was produced in partnership with Nexstar (KXAN). I have alot of mixed feelings. On one hand, I feel like it's good because of high production quality for the address, and a smooth transition to the Democratic response, etc. On another hand, I feel like it is weird to have a local media outlet produce a Government address, or anything like that matter. Yes, they allowed both sides of the aisle to address Texas, but at the same time I feel like there's a bit of a violation of journalistic ethics. But what I'm also wondering, has a State Government partnered with a local media outlet to do something like this?

Obviously, the CBS News Local standard makes news division names simpler. So, this is easily one of the simplest local news division names yet

I don't blame you for that thought. I never watched it in years, to be honest.

That's why we have Public Media. We have PBS NewsHour. Yes, it's an hour. But their stories have so much room and relaxes. Even their weekend edition (30mins) still holds the concept.

Sorry. To be honest, I think doing this is great to help bring unity and connection between the two top CBS News shows, and bring a mini newscast for people who don't want to watch too long, but still at least get the information needed in a world where now an AI robot can give it to you.

This ain't the first time they attempted something like this. Remember the middle of the Jeff Glor era?

Do viewers think that because the logo is read like the way it is, it's meant to be said that way? I guess then YouTube should actually be called “Play YouTube”, the upcoming Super Bowl should be called “L-V-I-I Super Bowl”, and FedEx should be called “Fed-Arrow-Ex”. Now, I'm not saying no. Obviously, there's wordmarks on logos to help people know what it is called. Heck, there's even some logos without the wordmark, so it may be hard to tell what is it called, unless they are so popular you don't even need the wordmark. But I'm also saying some logos can include symbols that are meant to be there that includes words, but it's not meant to be said with the brand. So I'm pretty sure that what we're seeing in some of these new CBS News local logos are station symbols, because as I stated a time ago, CBS is researching which brand is more popular, which station should ditch the channel number, etc. I guess the stations that want to keep the channel numbers, this may be the route for their news counterparts.

Obviously, this is 100% wrong and unjustified, especially with what the Governor said. And no reporter should bare that. But with all the bad stuff that they've been doing, specifically with Perry Shook and his actions inside and outside NewsNation, you can say this was karma.

Unsurprisingly, NewsNation may be so desperate to hire the two lovebirds from GMA. The same news organization ran by a man who had sexual assault allegations, who worked for GMA. https://www.msn.com/en-US/tv/news/forbidden-lovers-amy-robach--tj-holmes-looking-for-new-gigs-at-newsnation-after-being-dumped-by-abc-over-gma-affair/ar-AA17aRpi?ocid=sapphireappshare I have a slogan for them. NewsNation: We hire scandal-plaqued hosts to bring News to our Nation.

No wonder why they must've been delayed so many times since announcing their return to news. They wanted everything right and they didn't launch until the full quality was perfect. Take it like a company that was releasing a new product. You see something wrong with one of the new features. Do you release that product with the flaw, or just delay it until you fix it? A quality company would delay it, and that's the case with CBS News Detroit. By the way...you don't see many companies doing that nowadays

Well, the black and gold remains. Congrats to y'all black and gold fans.

I'll tell you one thing about Nate Burleson. Paramount is really using him good in this synergy. Maybe because he's very talented, or maybe because there's something else I don't know about. Expect him to host Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards this year. Nate Burleson & Charli D’Amelio To Host Kids‘ Choice Awards – Deadline

As I am sure everyone knows, I for one welcome this new era. WBZ, when I tune to you, I better hear CBS News Boston being announced. Okay...maybe they'll stick with WBZ News. But you know, you never know. But I understand that not everyone here is welcomed to this change. The call letters, the number, the font of it on the logo, it's iconic. And when you see it gone, for some, it's like a sad thing. It's like losing a nice painting you had in your house for years. So, I feel for you guys that may not like it.

I assume it's because of "The Desk" segments or the KCAL News branding?

Goodbye lovebirds. Can't wait to see a documentary, or a movie based on this in the next few years.

One day, when names and logos are permanent channel numbers replacements, the world will be a less cluttered place.

Now that's nostalgic right there, with the information graphics. Feels like the old OTA NBC Weather Plus, or the News12 NY Weather and Traffic channels. Hope they keep it there, especially for streaming.

KCBS 2/KCAL 9 - CBS Los Angeles News Thread
Horizon replied to Roadrunner's topic in Los Angeles News
Oh boy. I'm already imagining what some people are gonna think. But it's nice that they're finally promoting the CBS News local brand a little...through a simple bug change. -
One more thing: I haven't seen an article from PIX on it, but look at this spin from another Nexstar station trying to justify it as a good thing.
-
Just to provide perspective, Nexstar is not the only company to do this. Not sure if it's online but, based on my studies (streaming on TV), most NBC O&O local news channels on Peacock and Roku, and Hearst's Very Local channels run delayed newscasts as well. So Nexstar is not the first, but I hate the fact that this is a trend. The good news for NBC local streaming channels is that I've seen them go live for breaking news, and I believe that the NBC Boston news channel is live as well when simulcasting NECN. So hopefully Nexstar can still offer breaking news live. But still, not justifying this dumb move at all.

KCBS 2/KCAL 9 - CBS Los Angeles News Thread
Horizon replied to Roadrunner's topic in Los Angeles News
Simple takeaway from this week: - KPIX showed us how to rebrand their newscasts the right way - KCAL showed us how to rebrand it in the most throwback, independent, weirdest way possible I mean, for those who worked with KCAL before moving to KCBS, this is a nostalgic moment for them. For the viewers and some here, it's either bad, or could've been better. For me: Well....good thing I don't live in California. -

KCBS 2/KCAL 9 - CBS Los Angeles News Thread
Horizon replied to Roadrunner's topic in Los Angeles News
I agree. Outside of news, there's no need for CBS News branding nor call letters. But the thing is that the reason why they may use the name of newscasts like you exemplified is for TV guide listings only. There's no way people are actually going to say long names like that. -
KCBS 2/KCAL 9 - CBS Los Angeles News Thread
Horizon replied to Roadrunner's topic in Los Angeles News
I mean, the News Organization brand is KCAL News. As I read in the article of the website I guess folks don't like saying, KCAL is a popular brand in the California region, according to CBS brand researchers studying viewership for the rebrand. I'm pretty sure the reason why CBS Los Angeles is in the bug is for when KCAL NEWS airs on the channel, formally known as CBS2 (KCBS). Personally, as I preached in the CBS O&O graphics topic, all stations should be streamlined with the CBS News brand, but it may not be the case for every station. Some may stick with the channel numbers, others may stick with the call letters. Definitely, that's the case with KCAL and their news operations in California. -
Some notable takeaways: - Not every station will ditch the channel numbers in the rebranding (congrats to some nostalgic fans, there may be hope) - The graphics will be used with Chyron Prime - The music used is customizable - Rest of the stations will see the new look this Spring
