Not just the Rangers. As per that article, Bally intends to walk away from MLB entirely after 2024. Of course, there are also major implications for MLB teams themselves. The loss of RSN money will likely impact payroll (see: the Twins).

It’s been discussed extensively here in the past, but I don’t think the branding shift was designed to “move the needle” as much as it was designed to promote the local streaming services. I really wish there were more reliable sources for ratings than that creep Rich Lieberman, but even if he’s right…at least the station hasn’t tanked, I guess. Pittsburgh is always competitive, and the ratings race for the 25-54 demo is extremely close. I’m sure there are other factors as to why KDKA is down at 6pm, though I wouldn’t be familiar with what those are.

I’m don’t work at a station, just a casual viewer. IMO, the graphics look sharp and are a massive improvement over what they replaced. My one criticism is that the L3s (especially the logo bug) take up a large chunk of the screen at all times, and a constant headline ticker isn’t really necessary most of the time. Otherwise, I’ve got no issues with them. However, the music is really, *really* repetitive and dull, and it’s already become stale imo. I was hoping there would be more cuts of “Dimensional”, but it’s a really limited music package.

Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion
nycnewsjunkie replied to Smitha A's topic in Corporate Chat
But it is partially indicative on the state of local TV imo. Scripps is cost-cutting too, and Nexstar pays their employees horribly enough already. Granted, neither of those companies are doing anything as drastic as Sinclair, but I worry that this won’t be a Sinclair-only problem in the future. -
This is the kind of thing most people wouldn’t have even cared about if there weren’t predatory outlets that drew attention to it. I don’t understand the tabloid fixation with this kind of stuff; if Strahan is dealing w/ something in private, leave him alone and give him a break.

NewsNation The Turmoil Saga of NewsNation
nycnewsjunkie replied to TVLurker's topic in US Cable News
Quite a lot, actually. The History Channel barely covers history, and NewsNation barely covers the news. -
This is definitely one of the local news stories of all time. I think it’s safe to say they’ve toned things down quite a lot since then, but damn, WSVN cynically chased after sensationalist stories back then.

I wouldn’t say that. Times Square is a destination in and of itself, and Lincoln Square is home to both the Juilliard School and Lincoln Center. It sucks that those areas are both losing a longtime presence, but it also makes sense for Disney/ABC to have all their NY operations under one roof.
-
No worries. The fact that they and the Padres had that contingency plan ready in short order is an example of good foresight on the part of MLB. My guess is that if Bally drops more clubs, they’ll most likely go this route.

No worries lol

They already have. There’s no rule that suggests that they *have* to be on an OTA channel. https://www.mlb.com/dbacks/schedule/programming

I hate to be that guy, but it’s “Abrams” and “WCBS.” Still though, very cool find.

Outside of Atlanta, they already have.

BREAKING: Warner Bros. Discovery Leaving RSN Business

He’s fantastic; probably one of the best reporters WABC has going for them. I could be wrong, but I think he’s full time now.
-
Interesting. I guess I never realized how much of a common practice editorializing always was at WABC. That clip of John Johnson is a very good example of that. YMMV on how much of a good thing that is, but I agree that it certainly adds a spice (for lack of a better word) to their newscasts that the competing stations don’t have. No wonder a character like Bill Bonds did so well at WXYZ with the same format; his newscasts were basically “Eyewitness News” on steroids (newscast titles notwithstanding).
-
To be fair, if that format is only for the 4:30am half hour, that’s not the worst thing in the world; many stations are dropping the 4:30 entirely anyway. That said, a lot of those MMJ-heavy newscasts look really amateur and unpolished on a lot of the smaller stations that have adopted them. WTXL, for instance, is rough to watch, and their whole product gives off the impression that they’ve thrown in the towel. Still, though, at least they aren’t pulling local news entirely, and they’re still providing a public service, even if it doesn’t look very presentable.

I’m pretty sure the show’s syndicated (source: the show’s website). He may not be working for PIX proper, but it still counts in my book. https://positivelyamericatv.com

ABC changing their logo; New graphics coming for ABC owned stations
nycnewsjunkie replied to Briella's topic in Graphics
Oh I believe you; I’m just saying that if I had to guess, that was the logic behind launching this morning. -
ABC changing their logo; New graphics coming for ABC owned stations
nycnewsjunkie replied to Briella's topic in Graphics
I wouldn’t say so actually; if there are any bugs/glitches, better to sort them out on a Saturday morning than during the week when more people are watching. -
This article puts things in a more complete context, especially for those of us (like me) who have no idea how this stuff works. Thanks for sharing it.

I partially agree with you here, but if I’m Drew Barrymore, I don’t need CBS or my lackluster talk show. It boggles my mind that she didn’t either tell the company to screw off or continue the show while abiding by WGA strike rules (or while paying staff out of pocket herself, if possible). From the sound of things, the most recently taped episodes were likely using scabs; Drew Barrymore knows better about this stuff. A public spat w/ Paramount/CBS would’ve been nasty, but it’s surely better than throwing your career away for a generic talk show.

The Ever-Evolving Gray Graphics Situation...Thread
nycnewsjunkie replied to NEOMatrix's topic in Graphics
They actually just launched GrayONE today (newscasts are on VUIt). -
Sounds a lot like they’re getting the Scripps small market treatment.

Raycom Sports is actually handling production; they just happen to use ESPN’s graphics. I believe they also produce a number of ESPN games as well (though I could be wrong). EDIT: The games they produce are sublicensed from ESPN, and they use the ESPN look, but Raycom is ultimately running production. https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/38007548/acc-cw-strike-broadcast-deal-air-50-football-basketball-games
