It’s also the Post. That bastion of respected journalism.

Oh good lord.

Wow. Not everyone has the same circumstances. No one is owed an explanation or specific timeline for something that is between her and her employer.

Has anyone been paying attention these last 7 months? Laws. Don’t. Matter. At least not any laws that impede or restrain the regime.
-
And by pure “coincidence” they got their deal done to be sold days later. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s a damn duck. No one is arguing the world is what it was a decade ago, let alone multiple decades. But the timing and manner of the Colbert affair says all that needs to be said. It doesn’t matter if it was the orange baboon directly or the FCC staff doing some wink wink/nudge nudge in the background. Anyone with an ounce of common sense understands what happened.
-
It also never got a chance to fly, so to speak. One anchor suffers a catastrophic injury, the other has personal issues of her own emerge. Not faulting ABC for swinging back to Charlie, but there was relatively (in viewer habit terms) little time to prove the concept.
-
Gee, the changeover from Jennings couldn’t possibly have been a longer-term factor.

No one is saying it was high art, but even by the low bar set over the years, what’s left on the older two CBS soaps is comically bad in every aspect. They could throw on a repeat from 30 years ago and it would be the same plots, same characters, same sets et al. But they don’t risk challenging the powers that be.

That linear television was withering and that this has appeasing the cretin in the White House with or without a direct quid pro quo are not mutually exclusive, nor automatically dismissed as conspiracy theories. We need only look at what’s happened the past approximately 6 months for ample evidence of acquiescence when only the faintest suggestion that being on the wrong side of those in power is a very bad idea. It’s also not limited to broadcasting. We have all seen with our own, not-conspiracy-tainted eyes what happens when they decide to target a person or entity. That chilling effect has been more than enough to achieve their goals. It is autocracy. Perhaps a uniquely “American” version of it, but calling it what it is does not equate to being a crackpot conspiracy theorist.

This random middle of the summer, middle of the week axing does not suggest a primarily financial move. There is no show on their air that is pulling the numbers from its respective glory days. The soaps are a shell of their old selves, Price chugs along with nowhere near the audience it once had, etc. But the guy who savaged their capitulation to tyranny, he goes first. The saying “doesn’t pass the small test” applies in spades.
-
Sure it was. And I chose not to be considered for People’s Sexiest Man Alive. Heck, that might be more plausible than buying anything CBS is pushing here.
-
Whether the guy with the vein issue and cognitive decline directly demanded this isn’t the issue. It’s one more in an endless set of preemptive conformity by his allies and those who have or may have business before one of his crony-led agencies. This was a targeted hit that they’re wrapping in nonsense.

It was just a riff on the previous post

With the constant bending of the knee, probably hiring Gutfeld or whatever his name is from Fox.

Not unexpected is ensuring any voice contrary to the regime will be silenced.

But we’re not in danger of authoritarianism, right? This. Is. Vile.

They are solid when it comes to having a bench of backups. Makes sense to keep that pipeline flowing.

Seems like the answer would be contained in those two changes happening at roughly the same time. No one is going to make a big deal of it, at least in most cases. If the numbers aren’t there, they aren’t there. They’ve made it easier (a relative term) on Karen Rogers by having Pellman handle the first half hour (outside of days off), with her also typically having the 10 am. They dialed back the third-wheel anchor concept for that show with the recent assignment changes. This seems a fairly straightforward case of fishing where the fish are.
-
It creates a problem in the eastern time zone, at least so far as their own stations are concerned. The 10 am newscasts are seemingly important to them, and you can’t realistically move the existing noon newscasts to 1 to create that separation around The View. For now, there is no compelling need to put GMA3 nearer the mothership. Live serves the company’s purposes well, and eventually this transition period will settle down.
-
Good for her. I remember her locally for her stop at WPVI and always thought she was good at ABC. With the flux in the current GMA lineup this is probably a more visible and steady gig. I don’t care for the show, but respect her choice.
-
Good for them for not bending the knee.

The idea is interesting. Maybe it works maybe not. Trying new things with partners who handle their areas of expertise is fine. Live and learn. Years ago, like all the way back in the last century, WPVI Philly ran a store at the King of Prussia mall. Had a small space for reporters to do live reports though I can’t say I remember that part being used much. No coffee, but it had an assortment of station and ABC-show branded merchandise. Travel mugs, hats, pens, shirts…all that kind of stuff. Lasted a few years and quietly closed down. But it got them some branding in a high-traffic location for a while. It’s easy to find all the potential negatives and things to pick apart, but in a rapidly changing landscape, taking a calculated swing now and then can be worth the shot.

Assuming they receive a complaint at all, they can “investigate” it until no one cares, which in today’s world is about 7.1 seconds. They don’t need to do anything unless they see an opening to needle someone they deem antagonistic to the dear leader and feel like they can make said antagonist a scapegoat. Under no circumstances would they criticize the person who uttered the words in this scenario. But were it to be uttered by anyone on the enemies list, rest assured they will spring into action at the first complaint received. If they even wait that long.

People have very short attention spans. Those predisposed to dislike “mainstream” media are already not watching. To everyone else, it’s a meaningless blip in a flood of other things competing for their attention. The news cycle has already moved on a few times over from this- nobody is going to change viewing habits either way over this.
