Seriously? The president of the United States can do anything with no limits of evil but a late night host joking about his death should never be acceptable and that's non negotiable no matter what? Yes I know his corrupt supreme court gave him total immunity but what if he followed through on his threat to end civilization in Iran? What if he decides to do what he has always wanted to do and drop a nuclear bomb somewhere? We are talking about a joke here, he's not calling for people to assassinate anyone, and yet even a joke about him dying should never be accepted because he's the "president". Jimmy Kimmel has nothing to do with the country being divided. The country is extremely divided because one half of the country is terrorizing the other half. Could you imagine in the 1930s someone saying "The jews and the nazis are so divided right now and they are never going to be united if we keep talking bad about Hitler". That's what you sound like. Donald Trump posts about killing public figures all the time. He has millions of cult like loyal followers who are mentally unstable with military style machine guns and he still posts about how his enemies should be killed by firing squad. Even republicans who turn on him like MTG get death threats from his supporters. The fact that you think a late night talk show host should be held to a higher standard than the president of the United States when all he is doing is a silly joke and the president constantly puts peoples actual safety in danger with actual death threats is stunning.

CBS Evening News Keeps Hemorrhaging Viewers | Chart "The Dokoupil-led “Evening News” hit its lowest-rated month in total viewers since the anchor took over, averaging less than 3.9 million viewers throughout April. In the advertiser-coveted 25-54 age demographic, the show is averaging 497,000 viewers, its lowest April in the demo this century. But the show is up 2% in total viewers from April 2025, which remains its lowest-rated April in total viewers this century." "The show averaged 4.279 million viewers in its first quarter, down 7% from the same period last year, while its 25-54 audience was at 535,000 viewers, down nearly 20%." " It comes as competitors such as ABC News’ “World News Tonight” averaged 8.54 million viewers and roughly 1.1 million in the demo —more than double CBS News’ numbers" "Weiss told staffers in January that ratings were not her ultimate measure of success." It's not just CBS Evening News. CBS News is hitting ratings low from morning to night The New CBS News Drives New Ratings Lows | Charts "while “CBS Mornings” is also on track to hit its lowest total-viewer numbers since October after a steady decline throughout the year’s first quarter"

Jimmy Kimmel didn't say anything wrong. There is no real public backlash, it's all MAGA garbage and the only people upset are republicans who will attack Jimmy Kimmel no matter what he says. ABC caved to MAGA last fall and it was such a disaster they had to backtrack and reverse their decision. trump and the people in his government/army/ice/police/etc.. are actually doing evil actions and are responsible for the murder and torture of thousands of innocent people and you are claiming stuff some Democrats are saying makes "both sides abhorrent"? Nobody is publicly wishing death on trump because of something Kimmel said. Trying to tie the two together is ridiculous. People are wishing death on trump because of what trump and his government is actually doing. Since when has wishing death on a evil person who is a threat to the lives of others been broadly condemned? It is NOT controversial for people to publicly wish death on terrorists, evil dictators, etc.. It happens all the time. If you go over social media you will find comments of people wishing death on multiple terrible groups of people. Everyone from terrorists to evil dictators to murders to child predators. Republicans are the biggest supporters of the death penalty and our Government murders people all the time when there are non-lethal alternatives. I say this as someone who actually wants Trump to stay alive because Trump dying will change nothing, the people in his government are more evil and dangerous than he is, but when he dies his death will be publicly celebrated by a huge part of America and it will be very interesting to see how the U.S. news media handles this.

Yes sometimes someone like George Stephanopoulos will point out a lie or ask a tough question, and yes ABC News hasn't fired him for doing so, but they did fire Terry Moran. if ABC News was your only source of media, or even worse if you only watched ABC World News Tonight as your source of news, you would be totally unaware of most horrible evil things this administration is doing. The ICE raids for example get almost no coverage. On September 30 when ICE agents in Chicago zip-tied children with no clothes, it was not even mentioned on ABC World News Tonight even though this would normally be the type of story ABC News would be all over (the local ABC Chicago station did cover it). The kids being tortured in ICE "detention" get almost no coverage. Yes they cover things like ICE agents shooting Americans in public but just like state TV in other authoritarian countries most of the terrorizing by the Government goes unreported or downplayed. That's what makes them appear like state TV in my opinion, there are 2 types of state TV, ones like RT that justifies and defends whatever the Government is doing, and ones like CGTN that ignores and downplays what the Government is doing and focuses on other news, and that's what ABC News looks like to me. The trump admin still does interviews with ABC News, and ABC News is rarely criticized by trump, the fact that the FCC is trying to take ABC off the air because of Jimmy Kimmel and not ABC News coverage kind of speaks for itself. Disney has ensured that ABC News is no threat to trump, but he's coming after them anyway because of Kimmel.
-
What's so crazy to me is this is happening not because ABC News is doing good journalism and covering trump accurately, ABC News sanewashes, justifies, and downplays everything trump does just like the rest of U.S. television news media, it's because of an entertainment late night talk show. Disney has destroyed the credibility of ABC News and made it look no different than state TV in other authoritarian countries yet they are still a target because they didn't cancel their late night talk show like CBS did. The FCC is signaling that you can turn your entire news organization into pro U.S. government propaganda and still be a target if you air any entertainment programming that is critical of the evil fascist U.S. government. For the U.S. news media, it's fine for trump to order the killing of innocent people, fine for him to order the U.S. "law enforcement" to grab innocent people off the street and send them to torture camps with no due process, fine to put thousands of innocent children who have committed no crime themselves in awful prisons because their parents brought them to the country illegally. Fine for him to threaten to kill a "whole civilisation" , But his life is so precious that any joke about his life ending is just so awful and when someone tries to take his life it's not okay for the news media to be "neutral" like it pretends to be for everything else, When Jeffrey Epstein died the U.S. news media was not saying his death was tragic, but any attempt to take trumps life is beyond horrible and when he finally dies the U.S. news media will act like his death is a devastating somber event. If nobody deserves to be shot and killed no matter what, where was the outrage when secret service shot and killed the first person who tried to shoot trump? The U.S. government shoots and kills people all the time when there are non-lethal alternatives and it's no big deal. Death is only tragic to the U.S. news media when it's evil far right wing Americans. Just making a joke about the death of a right wing president who has ordered the murder of thousands of people is enough for massive outrage and the FCC coming after you.

And this is what makes MS NOW a credible source for news and NBC a disgrace. A real credible news organization shouldn't be concerned with any of those things you correctly point out NBC News is concerned with. Respectable private news outlets in other western countries are not covering the Trump admin the same way as NBC News. MS NOW doesn't have to worry about upsetting republicans with facts or having the corrupt U.S. Government come after its broadcast license or other parts of its business. You are free to do real journalism at MS NOW without the concerns everyone at NBC News has to deal with. On top of that, MS NOW is not the FOX News of the left, you can ask tough questions to Democrats on MS NOW, you can be critical of Democrats on MS NOW. Yes the opinions expressed on the network are left wing and progressive but they don't just give Democrats a free pass on everything like right wing media does to MAGA. It's a safe space for someone like Peter Alexander to anchor a newscast that focuses on facts and proper journalism and sadly NBC News is not a safe space to do that anymore due to the reasons you listed.
-
2 things can be true at the same time. The reason he gave justifies stepping down as host of the Saturday Today Show, not leaving NBC News entirely. Yes it's true a weekday anchor job will allow him to spend more time with his kids on Friday nights, do you really think he had to leave NBC News to get a weekday anchor job? I highly doubt NBC would be against allowing him to anchor an hour of news weekdays on NBC News Now from DC. Obviously he's not going to come out and say he's leaving NBC because it's become a garbage outlet with zero credibility because Comcast is terrified of upsetting the evil dictator who runs the country, but it's very telling to me he is just one of the many respected journalists who has decided to leave NBC News for MS NOW. The facts are he can cover Trump in an honest and real way at MS NOW that he simply can not do at NBC. MS NOW has gone from an opinion channel to a channel where you can do real journalism the other media outlets are too afraid to do, and it's no surprise they are picking up so many credible respected journalists from once respected news outlets.
-
If anything, their news coverage is improved since leaving NBC News. Their international news coverage is just fine with reporters from AP, Reuters, Sky News, CNBC World, and other international stations. They are now getting scoops on their own. The split has just reaffirmed that NBC News provided zero value to the network, if anything it was holding the network back.

I think it's pretty telling how many respectable journalists who were almost exclusively working for NBC News have made the move to MS NOW. Vaughn Hillyard, Ken Dilanian, and Jacob Soboroff were all primarily with NBC News. If Peter Alexander didn't want to anchor the Saturday Today show i'm sure they could have found him a weekday anchor slot on NBC News Now, it's very telling he is joining the others and leaving the trump donating Comcast owned NBC News to join the only television news outlet in America that is not afraid of upsetting the trump admin. For years NBC News looked down on MSNBC as a left wing opinion channel but clearly a lot of respected credible journalists think the only openly anti trump TV news outlet is a better place to do journalism than the garbage disgrace known as NBC News that has become trump's home for softball interviews (I'm pretty sure Kristen Welker talks to trump more than the demons at FOX & Friends) It's easy to say the issue was the Friday night travel to New York, but I think covering a disgraceful White House for a company that is terrified of upsetting the white house has a lot more to do with this.

I don't think the fact that CBS Evening News hasn't been cancelled makes it profitable. It has been reported by credible outlets that CBS News loses about $50 million a year, so overall it's unprofitable for CBS to be in the news game yet they still operate CBS News. I still think the purchase of CNN will result in drastic job cuts at CBS News. CNN struggles in the ratings and I just can't see SkydanceParamountWBDiscovery or whatever that evil empire will be called producing separate low rated newscasts that compete directly against each other. Murdoch is pretty successful with the FOX network focusing on local news while his far right propaganda cable channel covers national news. This is what I could see happening in the future at CBS. CBS News will mostly only exist at the local level, while CNN acts as the national news service just like FOX News Channel. When major news breaks, CBS would just simulcast CNN the same way FOX does for FOX News Channel.

As someone who considers MS NOW the only credible source for television news in America but at the same time was very upset by the first wave of changes resulting in the cancellation of The Reidout, Alex Wagner Tonight, and The Katie Phang Show, I support most of the changes here. The less Morning Joe the better. This show should never have been 4 hours. I never watch the program and being on the west coast it's easy to ignore, but 4 hours of any show is overkill. Moving Stephanie Ruhle back to mornings make sense as she was never a good fit for The 11th Hour. Ratings for the show have collapsed with her as host and she just didn't fit as a lead-out of the left wing opinions in primetime. Ali Velshi is a much better fit for the program. Alicia Menendez deserves her own show and she was being wasted on The Weeknight. She is great at subbing for Nicolle Wallace and I think this is a great way to get people who watch Deadline White House but currently ignore MS NOW daytime to tune in earlier. Jacob Soboroff is fantastic and it's about time he had his own show on the network. Being a weekend show still allows for him to do reporting during the week which is also bonus More Chris Hayes the better. I feel like the network has unfairly diminished his role at the network and under promoted his show. They have put so much focus on launching and promoting other shows while not giving him and All In the attention it deserves. I don't understand why Katy Tur remains as anchor on this network. She doesn't fit in at all. If anything she should have moved to reporting with Chris Jansing remaining as anchor. Katy Tur is horrible as anchor but was actually good when she was a reporter on the campaign trail. In my view it makes more sense to keep Chris Jansing as anchor as she is good at covering breaking news, something that is needed for a 24 hour news channel. She manages cover news without upsetting the left wing audience, Richard Lui is another anchor who is great at covering breaking news and is being under underutilized by the network I still don't think Rebecca Kutler is the right fit to lead this network. The network should be thriving but instead comes off as unprepared and muted to what is actually happening and seems too concerned about criticism from the right. At times the network appears desperate to focus on small failures of Trump and trying to look for positives when I think most of the audience wants a more serious and somber take of what's happening. Katie Phang & Joy Reid's youtube shows are drastically better than anything this network is putting out.

I'm really not surprised. The internet has made celebrity newsmagazines pointless and it has been that way for at least a decade. I'm sure every NBC owned station is thrilled Access Hollywood & Access Daily are being cancelled. Ratings have fallen dramatically over the years and it was pretty clear they were only airing in high profile time slots on NBC O&O's because they were produced by NBC Universal. If you look at markets where NBC doesn't own stations, these were not airing in high profile time slots if even cleared at all. Access Hollywood had been demoted to overnight on a lot of non-NBC O&O's and there are a lot of major markets where Access Daily was not even broadcast. All these shows were doing is bringing down the ratings for NBC O&O's. It's a better problem to have to find new programming than be stuck with dying shows that you are only buying because they are produced by the network that owns you. My guess is the NBC O&O's either launch another local daytime newscast or start broadcasting a 2nd hour of NBC News Daily to replace Access Daily and I expect all stations to expand their 7pm newscasts to a full hour to replace Access Hollywood. NBC stations have the benefit of little local news competition in the 7:00pm hour as most ABC stations are committed to Wheel of Fortune & Jeopardy while FOX is with Extra / TMZ and CBS is with ET / Inside Edition. I do think it will be hard for local news to rate worse than Access Hollywood.

Exactly. if she is the face of the show, she should be fired because the show has been hitting record low ratings with her as the "star". I know there are tons of egos in television news, and there are far worse people on TV news than her (Everyone at FOX News, Joe & Mika, Megyn Kelly, etc..) but she is beyond pompous and full of herself despite failing miserably in the ratings at every single show she has hosted. She's one of the biggest ratings failures in television and she thinks she is some mega star. The reason there is so much speculation about her leaving is because she is extremely over paid hosting a horribly rated show while the network she works for is doing massive cost cutting. If CBS Mornings was doing well there wouldn't be all these stories about her future in jeopardy. She then pathetically tries to save her job by posting selfies with FOX News primetime hosts and praising the far right boss who is censoring stories and turning CBS News into a propaganda outlet. She is one of the most well known personalities at CBS News because all the high profile and respected people CBS had have departed the network

Does Gayle refuse to cover stories about what public figures say behind closed doors? People are leaking what she says because the stuff she is saying behind closed doors is disgraceful and newsworthy. It's newsworthy an anchor of the morning show is praising her new far right boss despite the fact that she has ruined CBS News journalistic credibility and attacking those who are leaking stories about how the news operation is being destroyed. If she had any journalistic integrity she would have left the network months ago, instead she is pathetically trying to get her contract renewed by praising the new MAGA boss at town halls and telling CBS News staff upset about the changes that if they don't like it at CBS they don't have to be there. Most CBS News staffers don't have the luxury of making millions off of being oprah's friend so leaving the network has real financial consequences, they should be praised for exposing the changes at CBS News not scolded for leaking stories. The high profile people who can afford to leave (Gayle King, Norah O'Donnell, Tony Dokoupil, etc..) but are instead choosing to stay and do everything they can to appease the new far right owner are a total disgrace. The Independent spoke to some CBS News insiders about Gayle's town hall performance CBS News staffers ‘pretty salty’ over Gayle King’s passionate defense of Bari Weiss: ‘Utter disappointment’ | The Independent "According to one CBS News insider, King has “never been a leader” and the network “is in dire need of someone the staff can rally around.” Additionally, the insider felt that King just “wants to stay relevant” and remain a CBS Mornings anchor. " She’s not going to say anything against the person who will determine her job status. This was her only play,” the insider further noted. On top of that, a network staffer stated that much of the newsroom was “pretty salty” over King’s performance, an assessment that two other network sources agreed with. Stating that King “started off almost protective” of the CBS News staff with her speech, the staffer said “it devolved into such an utter disappointment” because she “made it about her not liking the fact that people are talking to the press about her future at CBS News” and forgot about the “substance of people’s grievances and fears” at the moment. Reacting to King's statement that staffers unhappy with Weiss's editorial vision could just leave, the network employee said many staff members don’t have that luxury. “Have a little consideration for CBS staffers, Gayle. You’ve earned at least 200 million dollars since joining CBS News and earn millions more from what Oprah pays you to run Oprah Daily. Zero percent of us can just walk away and go back to our Manhattan penthouse to do something else,” they stated. “It just seemed like what started as a rousing speech then became all about her and the press and telling people to leave if they don’t like things like Weiss muzzling stories like CECOT and her pro-MAGA agenda at Evening News,” the staffer added. “I know Gayle knows being on CBS Mornings is what keeps her relevant, but we’re talking about the integrity of our news here.”

If anything this administration will require Skydance keeps CNN. trump would love nothing more than for the MAGA monsters running CBS News to also run CNN. While CNN is 3rd place in the cable news ratings, it has international reach and broadcasts 24 hours a day, way more pleasing to trump than Skydance current offerings of a horribly rated morning show & 30 minute evening newscast. It simply makes no sense for a far right dictator who is obsessed with controlling media coverage to be against a far right company buying a cable news channel. On top of that, it probably makes financial sense for Skydance to keep CNN. CBS News loses millions of dollars every year. The amount of layoffs and cost saving they could do by merging CBS News & CNN would be massive. I honestly wouldn't even be surprised if CBS News is shut down entirely with CNN taking over "news" programming. I could also see them turning CNN into an openly far right outlet to compete against FOX News.
