Cecily does guest spots on ABC News but I doubt anyone from GMA is leaving. My gut seems says Fox29 since they pick up the alumni from other stations usually. All I know is it seems like WPTV West Palm did Chris dirty and that’s a shame.

I read the article and that’s what it sounds like. I never understood why Nightly News went to 1A but it probably had to do with the pandemic. Studio 1A just looks cold and sterile now but it works for them in the ratings. Hopefully the 3A new look has more life than large video walls and AI but Comcast seems to embrace this trend with NBC News and their O&Os. Probably cheaper?

I’m sure WPVI would hire him back if something opens up but I can’t imagine ABC paying as much as they used to. The Jim Gardner paychecks are over.

He’s not on the WPTV website anymore. Lived in South Florida for a while and WPTV used to be such a powerhouse and had a ton of great veteran journalists and amazing up-and-comers. I believe Stephen Ross bought their news building last year and they have two years to move.

That’s it! Back to Times Square!

The Fox 29 News/Good Day Philadelphia Thread
obxwatcher replied to Jess's topic in Philadelphia News
That studio looks extremely tight and there is always road, building construction outside that building on Market St. I wonder if it’s super insulated. I’ll give them credit still using it after CBS3 and NBC10 stopped using theirs. I saw an old YouTube video when NBC10 would broadcast from Lowes hotel. I wonder if those anchors had to pay the Philly payroll tax -
If Anderson start promoting Ethos during AC360, I’m done with CNN.

This whole transition has been a show. My prediction that Tony will be anchoring CNN International at 4am in 2027 still seems like a possibility. If I am Margaret Brennan, Major Garrett or Matt Guttman, I would tell HR I don’t want the job.

Always felt NBC News was screwing-over Chris Jansing and this basically feels like another demotion for her.
-
At this pace, in 2027, CBS Mornings will be on CBS, CBSN, Paramount+, CNN and Headline News and the Today show will still be destroying them in the ratings.

I have a hunch (probably wrong, lol) that 6abc will hire Taryn Hatcher. Just seems like a coincidental timing that she announced she left NBC Sports Philly and Galati gone from 6abc.
-
The way 6ABC has been letting senior staff go lately (McCormick, Apody, Boyington, etc), I wouldn’t bite the hand that feeds you on social media if you have to work on a serious weather weekend.

Didn’t NY Post last week report that Gayle is looking to take Savannah’s spot when her CBS contract is up?

John was annoyed that Adam posted he had to work a 1/2 day on Saturday. John said he did it all the time. I believe in 2001, Channel 10 only had John, Hurricane and Henley so staffing was thin. Channel 6 has 5 meteorologist now, I believe. Maybe Adam thought he wasn’t needed but these are all hands on deck situations. I’ll give credit, Cecily and Adam are clapping back on social media lately with these fake forecasters scaring the crap out of everyone. The winter has sucked and all the meteorologists are the first to be blamed. However, Adam hasn’t been as friendly appearing as he used to be on 6. Probably needs a good vacation. John basically told Adam, you’re paid well and on TV, grow up. Kind of ironic, though.

This is NewsNation… Reruns of Blue Bloods were getting more viewers before news went 24/7.

Jesse Watters said the other night that Studio M (the big one) is down for six months. I noticed the other usual shows are now in different places and The Five looks like it’s on a different set. (Studio E?) Didn’t FNC renovate Studio M before the 2024 elections? Although it was minimal and I guess it’s been ten years now since a major renovation.

It will be interesting to see over the next several months which network former CBS News viewers will defect to. I guess this is the first sign.

Tonight’s broadcast almost felt like a soft opening of a restaurant. It had its opening night problems and I didn’t like it when Tony threw the producers under the bus on that snafu. A little unprofessional and unlike him. I appreciate putting the newsroom back in the mix and felt like an old Peter Jennings broadcast and going back to the 90s theme. Props to when David Muir did the same. I just hate large video screens now. (Looking at you Today and Nightly News ) Hopefully if Tony is out on the road, the kinks will be fixed. And by all means, go over to Ethan Allen or somewhere expensive and buy the new anchor a nice desk.

If anyone is looking to make some extra Christmas cash, go buy some cheap Banker boxes from Staples and stand outside CBS News NYC and DC offices this week. I am sure many employees might want them.

It’s interesting someone else brought up WPTV because I was thinking the same this week with Steve Weagle now leaving. I lived in South Florida for a bit and Channel 5 was a powerhouse. Their weather coverage was excellent and most of their reporters were amazing and either were seasoned veterans looking for sun or up and comers heading to bigger cities next. Jim Sackett and Kelly Dunn were the leaders of a great station. I would love to know what the hell happened because I check back in a few times a year and everything looks terrible from the graphics, the reporting and the generic set. In the last year they lost Kelly Dunn, Michael Williams, Shannon Cake and now Weagle. It’s like a fire sale at Scripps. The whole station is a relic of a titan they were. It’s a shame because this was a great station and now I see Channel 25 is kicking their butt and WPBF was a joke up until recently. What a shame.

You forgot the part where Tony is going to start his own podcast and Substack account. But seriously, I wish him all the best. I’m sure he will not miss the 3am alarm clock. He does great work as well and respect his interviewing skills.

Ashleigh Banfield steps down from nightly NewsNation show to expand true crime podcast

His show is actually pretty good and not as politically heavy as every other cable news show now. You can’t compare ratings from a previous election year because there will always be a drop off. CNN knows they have a live anchor at midnight in case of breaking news but they can experiment.
-
At this point, CBS News better not have any expectations that Tony will break the mold and beat Tom and David. I like Tony and his reporting style but the morning shows seem to be more relevant and newsworthy now than 6:30pm. Shepard Smith said it best when FNC canceled the weeknight Fox Report back in 2013. By the time we broadcast our show, you already know the news.
