  1. actually they can't give away WPLG, assuming the public data of the BBH-Graham 2014 deal is accurate. That was a tax deferred swap, selling WPLG would trigger anywhere from $150-$250 million or more in deferred capital gains taxes. To avoid triggering taxes selling to Nexstar will be another complex deal, could happen just almost not worth it At this point there's more benefit to BH letting WPLG decay
  2. supposedly, because the newscasts are tailored for women, the audience skews female and research shows they don't respond well to two male anchors. The closest other stations have done is have a male anchor read the show solo, and male meteorologist for the weather segment.

My artsy drawing of the plex layout on the tablet, mostly accurate. They'll have enough room for a Mercedes and a pony or three Sports will have a hard set again after 30 years. Deco will stay on virtual set most likely. And for the first time, the set pieces will be built by an industry set builder. The 2400 Sq ft space will only hold anchor desk, weather stand up area similar to whdh, Deco/weather cyclorama wall. 50-70 people move into the plex space near the 'big ass monitor'. It's 85ft from the sat center to the news desk so employees and the jib cam will be getting a workout 6k Sq ft for server room, so they're also probably going automated The building itself is set, but a lot of other parts appear to be fluid and still changing
  4. NBC10 could barely hack it at creating a brand new news operation even with NBC's deep pockets. Gray would be even worse, it's an LPTV that has no must-carry. The FCC issued clarification on LPTV rules on the 18th when this petition was filed, it gave LPTV stations more displacement protection vs old rules that would often result in an LPTV being eliminated. Given LPTV is not anchored to a DMA and TV licenses as spectrum, it looks like an ATSC3 speculation or Gray simply increasing the value of their license to about $4-$6 million just by relocating for ~$500K cost. Snatching FOX from WFXT is a possiblity, if FOX doesn't care about having a local newsroom so not quite a ABC-WPLG
  5. Not surprised. Something like 2% of those disliking the PBS cuts are actually donating. NYT reported, with all the press everywhere, PBS managed to get all of 120,000 new donors over 3 months ending July 2025.
  6. nice to see Bill doing well. Downtown Seattle is a cesspool and the LWP CEO beating up those buzzwords makes me think FOX saved some money "as anchor tenant" on what was a 100% vacant building until KCPQ signed up. Not mentioned, KCPQ are leasing a 27K sq ft space (currently operating in a 54K sq ft space), the floor above them is available, but they didn't lease it, so either the operations will be shrunk significantly, everyone will be packed in, or the rest of the team like sales will be somewhere else offsite.
  7. That channel needs a new brand

They simulated the CRT TV wall until recently in software. Haven't seem do it since they upgrade to a seameless LED wall. Ditto on the lighting. They all use those LED panels with 7500K light that looks like hospital lighting. Current anchor desk is separate, it only looks like part of the plex on air because you can't see the walls holding the glass panels behind the anchors. In Render #1 you see the anchor desk sitting in what is called 'News Studio', a ~2700 sq ft area slitghtly bigger than the current WSVN plex. Most/a lot of the standup areas will be in that space, and will probably look 'conventional' with prop sets that aren't physically part of newsroom like the current 'Sattelite Center' is, or the standup area opposite it. Not rendered on the left, is the weather office and green screen. Behind the anchors you see about 2/3 of the 'Newsplex' space (~6400 sq ft or larger), there's another 40ft running down to the right that is filled with desks. In Render #2 you see some that space below. And it is accurate there is no wrap around mezzanine floor like WSVN/WHDH currently have. The LED wall is a divider, behind it you can peak the 6 new anchor offices. That 2nd floor spot is just a careve out from an office space, it's quite a trek from downstairs so it might not make appearance during live newscasts much. There is no direct access to the plex floor like there is now. They're moving almost everyone who works on the live show into the plex space with their own desks, including assignment desk. Tldr; there will be a newsplex-like space with a standup at the LED wall, but overall not as we know it at WSVN, or WHDH.

May 2027 is the best case for moving in 18-24 months is overall what they're shooting for, assuming no delays
  10. Probably not, CW is losing money currently and hoping to become profitable. If you listen to Sinclair, like Nexstar they refer to their TV stations as spectrum, and boast to investors about their spectrum position. Scripps does the same.
  11. viewer habits that eventually fade out and get broken when change happens. Everyone thought WPTV was untouchable, it now rates 2nd and 3rd behind WPBF, ironically many wondered why WPBF even try to do news as recently as 2010. All 3 newscasts aren't doing great. No growth in 10 years. NBC and CBS newscast ratings are down 26% and 37% respectively from 2015. All three are down 50-65% in the 25-54 demo, 25-54 as a % of viewers is now 12.7 to 13.6% vs 23.5-26.3% in 2015, so audience is getting older and shrinking. "Managing a declining asset" is what they're all doing, arguably some are plugging the cracks a little better but for how long
  12. the feeds were pirated, and had to stop or pay the nets for distribution
  13. one right decision by CBS, going with the good looking Slavic guy. He can borrow my Adidas tracksuit for the first broadcast

is gonna be yuge! 20K bigger than WTVJ and 10K over WPLG's building, the current plex is barely 2000 sq ft not including the anchor desk area unlikely they'll do away with the plex, it's not there to look populated, it's a backdrop and umpteen standup areas for live shots which they see as an advantage to rhythm and pace the newscast vs the competition. They also still have close to or more than 200 people working in the news department. ND/assist ND/ producers are coalesced around the news desk and hang out there when they're live. The problem they're debating is the space might be too big for anchors to pop in and out quickly like it's currently possible at the plex. Sounds like everyone will be getting their steps on the regular
  15. Speaking of WPTV. Scripps sold WPTV's building and the 4.7 acres it sits on at the edge of Clear Lake in WPB to a joint venture between Dolphins owner Stephen Ross' Related companies, Key International and Wexford for $40,000,000 in April 2025. WPTV is leasing back the building and will be moving soon, the site will be redeveloped into... 250-seat mediterranean restaurant, retail and speakeasy. The JV is asking the city for $1.5 million in city funds (12% of the project cost) for rehab assistance. Eventually a luxury condo high-rise will take its place. WPTV moved into the building in 2000, altogether paid $16.9 mil for it, so Scripps will have some scratch left to pay down their debt. Maybe they can move into a warehouse like WPBF

think these are not the final look another one from his insta they're pulling from WHDH for ideas
  17. From FTVlive Here's one we all thought would leave with the proverbial boots on. Alice Jacobs, Vice President of News at Sunbeam/WSVN is leaving after 36 years. She joined WSVN in 1989, part of the OG crew that implemented the news heavy format WSVN became known for. Her husband, WSVN reporter Patrick Fraser is also leaving. Tom Gonzalez, another longtimer, is getting promoted from news director to VP of News. They sold their home near the station in Miami Shores on 10/31/2025 (https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2025/11/24/stepping-down-in-miami)
  18. Scripps board voted to insert a temporary poison pill that expires November 26, 2026. aimed at unapproved outsiders who gain 10% or more in Class A shares, cancelling their rights but allowing anyone else to buy SSP at 50% discount. tl;dr Sinclair, or any entity, or Sinclair acting with another shareholder as a 'wolf pack', will get automatically diluted if they go up in ownership from the 9.9% now. If they're already at 10% and gain another 0.1% or more the poison pill is triggered (https://scripps.com/press-releases/scripps-adopts-limited-duration-shareholder-rights-plan/)
  19. it looks like a short fuse tactic to pressure the board into acting without giving them enough time to seek other bids. Or, Sinclair knows/guesses the family may be infighting and this would prevent them from ironing out any disagreements, splintering the vote enough to get over the 50.1% hurdle. The board can ignore the bid as they can also be sued for lack "due care" if they accept it without getting bids from Gray or anyone else who might be interested. Imo the offer isn't that good for Scripps family. They control 93.3% of the vote, if they accept, over 60% of what they get will be in SBGI stock that is trading at a 13-year low. With a 3-5 year lockup they could very likely end up worse off by the time they're allowed to cash out
  20. It's an attempt by Sinclair. Unless Sinclair knows that there are Scripps family members willing to vote yes and they collectively make up 50.1% of the vote this is likely dead on arrival. The family can legally ignore all investors and do as they please. They have to follow procedures obviously but they don't have to listen to Sinclair or anyone else holding Class-A stock. Scripps has dual-class structure with the family owning 93% of the voting shares. 50.1% is required for this to pass per the Scripps Family Agreement. And those that vote yes can be bought out by other members of the family who do not want to sell. Sinclair's offer is kinda crappy, 70% of the offer is in SBGI stock, that's trading at 12-13 year lows. And any stock offer like this will likely come with vesting lockups to prevent dumping ie can't sell for 5 years etc meaning Scripps members who vote 'yes' could end up worse than they started.
  21. 7News was on ABC18, but not on WSVN proper Andrew Ansin was on Biz Journal's podcast recently. He shares how the WSVN/ABC deal came about. ABC approached them in August 2024, Sunbeam agreed but asked to simulcast 7News. From WPLG we know around that time ABC went silent and stopped negotiating but extended the contract. Ansin seems to suggest WSVN wasn't doing well financially before the ABC tieup, "and this way by simulcasting [...] a television business that was not doing very well, all of a sudden became significantly more profitable." Nothing specific but if WSVN, the top earning station in Miami for at least 2 decades isn't doing well financially, that means the other stations could be in a much worse financial situation! Later on mentions that now WSVN/ABC18 at 10PM often capture 60% of the people who watch the late news in the market. He doesn't clarify English or English and Spanish, if both then the rest of the 40% is split between 5 stations Work has started on the new WSVN building. The precast walls will go up around early December 2025. He emphasied that the family is committed to WSVN, they see it as a service to the community, and suggests they will keep going even if it's little or not profitable at all. Ansin points to his mother who created the Miami City Ballet not to make money but to provide high art to the community. Sounds like they view WSVN in the same manner. He emphasises "the community" and non-profits. https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1333-business-breakdown-with-b-273274022/episode/business-insights-from-the-america-forum-305962841/?position=687
  22. an fyi, WPLG didn't dump ABC. ABC went to WSVN in August 2024 and asked if they'd put them on 7.2 - per WSVN CEO. ABC stopped talking to WPLG allegedly, according to WPLG GM Bert Medina
  23. local affiliates have been objecting to and refusing to air programming from the networks for as long as that relationship has existed. Many, at least the smart ones, have it written out in their contracts. WSVN would nuke FOX programming if it scraped into the newscast schedule, and still unilaterally decides to throw any sport that isn't an NFL game into whatever timeslot they can find, National Hot Rod Association being one of the more recent ones. And then there's WHDH, which to this day NBC blames for Jay Leno at 10pm failing, and one of the primary reasons NBC did what it did in Boston
  24. no. The shooter is an obvious leftist. You have to be blind, deaf, dumb and a liar to claim otherwise. We can all read that savage's text and discord messages. Even me, English as third language and having failed it at 8th grade in eastern europe, can read and understand also "Charlie Kirk is a Nazi" totally something something on the right would say about Kirk which part of lying on TV while holding an FCC license was hard for you to comprehend? I thought we were supposed to battle misinformation and disable those people's social media and everything else
  25. must be a good chunk of change needed to get 700 Club off the schedule. Be crazy if they also can't do it period. WGVU has had operting loses even in 2023 with federal funding, they'll have to beat that, then donor attrition, along with 9.4% yearly rise in "administrative expenses"
