More Expansion in San Diego News

Not sure when they started, but KSWB now has news at 5p as well as 6p. The 5p newscast is also an hour. Not sure if Loren was anchoring solo (I only caught the last 10 minutes), but he was sitting at the main anchor desk. Kathleen and Loren still anchor the news at 6p.

it debuted monday, Jenn Karlman co-anchors with Loren at 5 followed with Kathleen at 6 and 10, they shouldve went at 4pm to compete with KNSD, too much news at 5pm

That's interesting. Yeah, I think they would have been more competitive at 4p. I havene't seen ratings lately, but KSWB must be doing well to continue expanding news.

They are doing the 5pm news presumably to get some of the viewers left over from the Dr. Oz Show. Got to give them credit, they are becoming a big force in town. The FOX 5 morning news came in 2nd place during July Sweeps. At 5pm, I can see them coming ahead of ABC 10 and maybe a tie with KNSD. Now if they would just have the anchors sitting together, it might help in keeping the viewers tuned in instead of ping ponging stories back and forth.

KFMB will be adding a 4:30 a.m. newscast starting October 17.

KSWB's 5pm seemed to appear from out of nowhere. I don't recall seeing any promos whatsoever.

Guess KFMB wants to compete with FOX and KGTV. I guess that they have a chance at beating 10 in the morning. I bet KNSD goes the 4:30am route next. As for KSWB, I saw a promo the day before they launched the 5pm news, and it was so subtle that I did a double take. It went something like "take a look at the FOX 5 news weeknights at 5, 6, and 10." I guess they're trying to see if they get any viewers from the Dr. Oz show.
