trev57 46
Just an interesting article that I thought might stir up some discussion. Heck, it even mentions Milwaukee. http://www.newslab.org/2012/03/05/where-are-the-dominant-local-tv-news-stationrooms/ Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11784-where-are-the-dominant-local-tv-news-stations/ Share on other sites
TVNewsRI 4
They mention the Providence market...at 11 PM in February, WJAR got a 6.0 to WPRI's 5.0. WPRI did win a few sweeps ago though. Also worthy of note is that WPRI's audience shrinks from the 10 PM lead in, while WJAR actually gains viewers from NBC primetime. Shows that viewers are making a concious decision to watch the news on 10, rather than staying with CBS. alaskanews 113
At the risk of this becoming a "list" thread (I'm assuming that rule is still in effect)... KING still blows everyone in Seattle out of the water (at normal newscast times, the non-traditional timeslots may be different) and my station, KTUU, still has more viewers in every timeslot than the competition combined. But we're smaller market. Looks like this article was talking Top 50. fox2 191
KHON Honolulu, WCCO Minneapolis, WPVI Philly are well-known powerhouses. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11784-where-are-the-dominant-local-tv-news-stations/#findComment-71780 Share on other sites
MorningNews 1462
ABC7 New York, WFAA ABC Dallas, ABC 7 San Francisco, ABC 13 Houston are just some of several ABC affiliate powerhouses that have lost their dominance in the late night news race to a CBS affiliate. CBS offers a very strong prime time lead in as opposed to ABCs rather weak prime time line up. Maybe this is a reason so many ABC affiliates lost their #1 spots in late night newscast. xmattx 0
Here in Britsh Columbia, Global BC(CHAN) dominates local news often getting more total viewers than every other station combined in most time slots. alaskanews 113
KHON Honolulu, WCCO Minneapolis, WPVI Philly are well-known powerhouses. KHON is #2 in the morning and at 10. KARE has been the longtime number 1 in Minneapolis. ColumbusNewsFan 217
I'll say WBNS in Columbus has been the Hands-Down dominant leader in Columbus for years. they haven't had a real challenger to them for about a decade now. Chief-O 31
WBAY's been the biggie here for years. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/11784-where-are-the-dominant-local-tv-news-stations/#findComment-71841 Share on other sites
johnnya2k6 171
KTUU still has more viewers in every timeslot than the competition combined. But we're smaller market. Speaking of which...what's with the "first in Alaska with local news in HD" holdup??? Meanwhile, up here in Fairbanks, we've got KTVF; they've been #1 for countless years though at one time in the 1980s, KUAC beat them (and KATN) in the ratings...and they're a PBS station! But KFXF and sister station K13XD have been nipping at KTVF's heels for some time now, and both stations air their network programs in HD. And back to the larger markets: KABC (Los Angeles), WWL (New Orleans), and WSB (Atlanta) have always been #1 morning, noon, and night for who knows when, while WSAZ (Charleston, W. Va.) have ruled the ratings since DAY ONE! cg41386 132
KARE has been the longtime number 1 in Minneapolis. WCCO has been #1 in recent books, but KARE was #1 before that. WNEP in Scranton, PA has been a very dominant #1 in the market for a long time. effseesee 101
KTVB destroys everybody else in Boise. I think the most dominant local station in the US is still KELO in Sioux Falls. PelicanGuy 117
Well geesh, WWL hasn't lost a sweeps since the late 70s. If that ain't dominant, what is the definition of dominant?
