WFLD's "Anchor Team of the Future"

In a move that will likely preview Fox Chicago's future, Kori Chambers and Anna Davlantes are expected to be named co-anchors of a re-vamped noon news. Bill Bellis would also take over full weather duties, instead of splitting M-W/Th-F with Tammie Souza. This team is also in talks to front a 5pm broadcast come 2013. Current noon anchor Patrick Elwood will return to full-time reporting, and both Kori and Anna will remain in their morning roles...but it is unknown who would take their place should the 5pm news come to fruition. Also unknown is the futures of 9pm anchors Bob Sirott and Robin Robinson, both whose contracts expire next year.

In my opinion, WFLD needs a 5pm newscast, I don't know why they didn't add a 5 O'Clock newscast since they canceled The TEN in 2009.

A 5PM newscast has been on the drawing board for years, but for some reason, they never made it happen. Honestly, they would be better off having one at 4 or 4:30 instead of 5 (that time period is crowded enough). Also, Elwood's demotion could mean he's on the chopping block and will be gone when his contract expires.

Both Anna and Kori are following a similar path as their predecessors (co-anchoring @ Noon only or doing both GDC and the Noon newscast). This would be like the 7th or 8th different pairing they have had at Noon in 12+ yrs. and I doubt these two are the 'anchor team of the future.' Unless they will be subbing for Bob and Robin or at the very least, doing some reporting @ 9PM, this move will mean nothing.

So it begins...

WFLD just announced several anchor changes that will take effect in a few weeks:

  • New hire Amara Walker will become co-anchor of the weekend broadcasts with Larry Yellen on October 6th, thus reinstating 2-person anchor teams for all 5 stations' weekend evening newscasts (ABC7 operating solo until Karen Jordan's return).
  • Darlene Hill will replace Dane Placko at the Sunday morning desk alongside political director Mike Flannery.
  • Finally on Monday the 8th, the long rumored pairing of Kori Chambers and Anna Davlantes will assume the noon chairs, with Patrick Elwood (like Placko) returning to reporting full-time. As expected, the two will remain in their morning roles, but Dawn Hasbrouck will take over the 4:30am half hour from Kori.

It's nice to see some changes being made...but we shall see. http://www.mediabist...ewscasts_b62788
