Viper550 292 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/65452/comcast-to-buy-ges-nbcu-stake-early Well, it had the majority, but now, it's going to go all the way. It's been only about two years since the deal was approved; how do you think Comcast has been running NBC so far?
CircleSeven 1960 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Obviously they didn't want to wait a few years until the joint venture elapse. I knew they were going to accelerate this fairly quickly. Comcast even wants to buy the 30 Rock building from GE. They wanted it from the get-go.
ABC 7 Denver 1729 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Since Comcast has changed is logo, is it believable that Comcast will rebrand to NBC?
TennTV1983 807 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Since Comcast has changed is logo, is it believable that Comcast will rebrand to NBC? Probably. Another question to ask is if Comcast will eventually spin off its cable company assets as a result?
WCAUTVNBC10 413 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Probably. Another question to ask is if Comcast will eventually spin off its cable company assets as a result? Doubt it. What you might see is a reorganization of the company though with the cable division fully under the xfinity umbrella and then all the TV stuff under NBC, and Universal Pictures spun off into its own division.
PIXfan 34 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I tried posting more info, but I can say this was long time coming.....
stevieboy247 42 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 With Comcast buying the rest of NBCUniversal, I have a feeling the GE Building at Rockefeller Center will see a name change. It would make perfect sense if you ask me.

The same exact thing happened when GE commandeered RCA in 1986 just to get their hands on NBC-TV (virtually all other assets were either sold off or spun off). When the buyout was made official, GE subsequently renamed what was then the RCA Building the GE Building.
ABC 7 Denver 1729 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 The same exact thing happened when GE commandeered RCA in 1986 just to get their hands on NBC-TV (virtually all other assets were either sold off or spun off). When the buyout was made official, GE subsequently renamed what was then the RCA Building the GE Building. But it has always rightfully so been the NBC Building. It is time to make the name official. (And I hope to god it isn't the Comcast Building nor the Xfinity Building. )
Rusty Muck 4405 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 But it has always rightfully so been the NBC Building. It is time to make the name official. (And I hope to god it isn't the Comcast Building nor the Xfinity Building. ) Well, UNoffically it's been referred to as "the NBC Building" (or more commonly, "Radio City" or "30 Rock") although it's official name has always been the RCA/GE Building. But after this transaction goes though, it's a safe bet that the building FINALLY gets to be called "The NBC Building." Here's what I think will happen: * Comcast's parent company absorbs NBCUniversal and takes the name of "NBC Corporation." * Comcast Cable gets absorbed into Xfinity and takes the Comcast name. * The integration of Comcasts' cable nets (E!, G4, Style, Golf) and NBC's cable nets finally complete the process. Plus the Comcast Sports Net channels will finally take the "NBC Sports __________" name after rejecting that consideration late last year. * Universal Pictures and Universal Television will be identified as "an NBC Company" while NBCUniversal Television Distribution takes the NBC name. * They will FINALLY hire a branding expert to streamline all branding on all properties in this conglomerate. Right now, it's as messed-up as England's ITV system was in the 80s. * And as mentioned above, the GE Building becomes the NBC Building.
