d247 43 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Sports Business Daily is reporting that the USGA has awarded Fox the rights to the U.S. Open, Women's Open and Senior Open from NBC, Golf Channel and ESPN. The 12-year deal begins in 2015. The events will air on the Fox network and Fox Sports 1.
TVIntheDesert 185 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 And the loser is the viewing public, given Fox is trying to position its national sports network as an aggressive ESPN competitor and will probably charge video providers at near-ESPN rates to carry FS1.
CircleSeven 1960 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 OMG! I would never thought they would acquire coverage of this sport. I just can't picture it. It is not Fox. SMH. This is just as shocking as hearing news that they acquired the NFL coverage from CBS almost two decades ago.
bammy9 26 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Shocking. I won't be able to picture Cleatus or the NFL on FOX theme with golf events... However, Joe Buck will fit in perfectly... Bland and boring.
Jess 1116 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Eric Shanks realllllllllly needs to reconsider his stance that the NFL on Fox theme is "the Fox Sports music". It doesn't work for baseball, and it sure as hell isn't going to work for golf.
Big Country News 435 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 What next? Screaming sportscasters during golf?
Jess 1116 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 What next? Screaming sportscasters during golf? They employ Gus Johnson. Don't give them any ideas.
Mrtraveler01 738 Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Eric Shanks realllllllllly needs to reconsider his stance that the NFL on Fox theme is "the Fox Sports music". It doesn't work for baseball, and it sure as hell isn't going to work for golf. I actually have gotten used to it for baseball. The sports that song doesn't work for is soccer and NASCAR. And as far as this is concerned, this is probably just the beginning. Now that they have a national sports network, they will be a lot more aggressive in the bidding war with certain rights contracts that are coming up (I think the NBA one is about up for renewal soon and I wouldn't be surprised if Fox tried to bid high for that one). But in regards to Fox Sports carrying golf...that is going to take some time to get used to.
MidwestTV 1245 Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I'm sorry, but someone please tell me why this is such a big deal?
CircleSeven 1960 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Shocking. I won't be able to picture Cleatus or the NFL on FOX theme with golf events... However, Joe Buck will fit in perfectly... Bland and boring. And speaking of the devil. B&C stated this afternoon that Fox Sports has tapped Joe Buck & 2-time British Open Champ Greg Norman to be the main announcing team for their upcoming coverage next year.
